MKX PDP pad issues

FC4 pad is better, but having to rotate the d-pad back to center can be annoying. Our last hope is MadCatz, but their pad might not come out before SFV, I did hate the d-pad on those SFIV Pads tho, they should replace it with something more saturn -like. I personally don't have any major issues with the PDP, but I haven't used it all that much.
Is there a xbox version of the fc4 or do you need a converter?

This really sucks because I gave the functionality of the pad such a good review. I'm sad to hear that the durability is so poor.

this is why I'm bummed too. It seems like use wise it's a really good pad, just built cheaply

Agreed 100%, the pad feels so good but man I hate the issues with it. It's just too much to put up with imo, I don't like the feeling that my pad can break so easily, I want to play with something that I know is durable and will only fail on rare occasion.

The closest thing to a FC4 on the XBox One is

This looks almost exactly like their GemEX Fightpad, which is what I currently use on Xbox 360 and PC. It's a great pad.

I also have a PDP pad, but I haven't opened it yet because of all the horror stories I've been hearing. I was thinking of giving it a whirl this weekend, but of course that would remove my option of getting a full refund...

The trick for me is some basic combos in MKX require you to press 1+3, which I can't do on my Hori. I remap the Controller, so instead of 1,2,3,4, my layout is 2,3,1,4. This means to press 1+3 at the same time, I need to hit A/Y (or X/Triangle) which doesn't work well on the Hori.

The facebuttons on the PDP pad are larger and a bit more spaced out though, so it might work there...

Really? Throw is one of the macro buttons I unmapped because I'm so used to 1+3 from SF and Tekken ( using Dualshock or stick) I usually just hit both with my thumb.. That's a pretty strange layout for buttons but whatever works for ya XD. You may need to have a shoulder be your throw.

The layout is actually a Klassic layout, as I used to play the original trilogy back at launch. So when I picked up Mortal Kombat (2011) and found the face button layout different, I had to remap. It's basically the old HP, HK, LP, LK layout :).

I always use the manual Throw bumper, didn't know 1+3 did a throw. For Mileena's (Ravenous) bitting combo, which ends in 1+3, can Throw be used? Never tried and thought you'd have to press the face buttons.

that makes sense. You should be able to just use throw since 1+3 equals throw and it's notated in the string as 1+3, but I honestly haven't tried it. my Commando Kano has a string like that as well but it's pretty low priority and I always use 1+3 out of habit like I said. would have to try it

Cool. I'll actually try myself later tonight and see. If I can simply use throw in place, then problem solved and I'll likely return the PDP pad for my cash back.

Should my Hori pad ever break, as I've been using it pretty solid for well over a year now, I guess their Xbox One pad could be my replacement. I sure don't want to use an Xbox 360 pad :p.

That's what I use. The Hori is a pretty good pad. The only problem I know is they use the same dpad technology as the last gen model. The dpad will fall apart because the dpad lock will get loose. I know this is an issue with games like SF or Marvel since there's a lot of DP motion.

Right now, the Hori is our only option (unless you want to play with DS4 or Xbone pad). The new Mad Catz pad will only come out when SF5 gets released (according to Markman).
Thanks for the suggestion @Icepick. I really appreciate the feedback.
I thought that only wired controllers were allowed at MKX tournaments. So I didn't know that using a DS4 PS4 controller was an option at tournaments. As for the Xbox One controller for KI I would be fine with it but I need to see if they are tournament approved. Either way I think that I am left with what I got for now because this trip to Combo Breaker is already costing me around $800 and I still need to save up for EVO 2015.

Checking my XB PDP Fight Pad again and it seems to be registering the button inputs just fine when in the game. It's only on the Xbox One menus that the single button inputs sometimes registers as multiple inputs. Also to be fair the dropped Block inputs and missing EX moves on the PS PDP Fight Pad could have just been an execution error on my part while playing in the tournament.

Plus, I have checked my PS PDP Fight Pad on my PS3 with GGXrd and USFIV and is works fine. So if I really was having dropped Block inputs at the MKX tournament it could have something to do with the PDP Fight Pad working on the PS4. Unfortunately I don't have a way to test this out for myself as I don't have a PS4.

In case you guys missed the other thread

My HFC4 review:

This is basically the Fighting Commander 3 Pro with added PS4 support. It retains the exact same design and features as before. The only difference being the Start and Select buttons getting replaced by Options and Share. Like most 3rd party controllers, it has no mic port and trackpad.

Despite being quite bulky, the controller is very lightweight, not because it was made with cheap parts, but because it has no internal battery and vibration. The left side of the controller is slightly longer than the right and it gives you a solid grip. As far as fight pads are concerned, this is by far the most comfortable one to hold.

It comes with a traditional cross shaped d-pad. It's very smooth, you shouldn't get any blister after long periods of gaming. However, it does feel a bit slippery when your thumb is sweating. The d-pad is ideal for fighting games that have special moves requiring simple inputs, it handles quarter circle motions and charge attacks very well. I found the d-pad not as effective for fighting games like Guilty Gear XRD and The King If Fighters XIII, games that have more half circle motions.

They made the d-pad adjustable, that might seems like a good thing at first, but it does lead to problems afterwards. Diagonals sensitivity is useless to me, there are 3 settings (Stiff, Normal and Loose). First off, the d-pad is unusable when sets on ''Stiff''. Set it on ''Normal'' if you need more precision or ''Loose'' if your prefer a floaty d-pad, mine is always on loose.

There's a switch allowing the d-pad to emulate the left analog stick if you need to do that for some reasons.

You can also rotate the d-pad to either direction, up to 20°. There's a lock below the d-pad that keeps it in place after adjustments have been made, you do that by turning the lock all the way to the right. I've never used that feature, I like to have my d-pad properly centered. After a while, I started noticing that the d-pad was rotating a little bit to the right on its own and that used to bug me.

The rubber membrane under the d-pad breaks off after heavy use. I wouldn't suggest you this controller if you're not willing to buy another one after a few months. I went through 4 Fighting Commander Pro in 2 years.

Mortal Kombat (2011) got me back into fighting games, I had not been so passionate about one since The King Of Fighters XI and Capcom VS SNK 2. In fact, it was the main reason why I finally bought a PS3. I didn't like playing with the DualShock 3, I thought the d-pad was too stiff and I just didn't like the trigger shaped shoulder buttons. Rain was my most played character at that time and I was having trouble doing his b2, 1+2 string constantly, because my thumb wasn't big enough to press 2 buttons simultaneously. I needed a controller that would fix those problems and the FC3 Pro did.

There are 6 large buttons on the face with just the right amount of space between them, I rarely found myself pressing the wrong ones. You can play using only your thumb or 3 fingers claw-style. I must point out that I don't always use the default controls in every game. For example, I like having the last 2 buttons on each row on the front as my main attacks buttons in MK9 and GG XRD, I do that with every 6 button controller though.

The shoulder buttons are square-ish, I'd compare them to those on a DualShock 2, maybe not as thick. There's a switch at the top allowing you to reverse the shoulder buttons, meaning that you can now have your L1 and L2 on the right instead, making it possible for your right hand to reach all the buttons.

The buttons may not be first party quality, but they held up pretty well. You have to be really rough with them to get them to stick. Turbo mode can be enabled for all the buttons.

The FC4 is a good alternative to the DualShock 4 if you're looking for a controller better suited for fighters. It does have its own set of problems. I felt like Hori went a bit too far with all the customizable features. At the end of the day, I just want something responsive, ergonomic and durable.

I've recently had issue and traded my Pad in. The pad felt really great, but it wasn't durable at all.

Thinking of investing in Hori, but I also heard it has issue with the D-pad getting too loose.
The rotate thing can get loose from what I heard... I set it how I wanted and then stuck it there with like 2 drops of glue... Never had an issue...

My PDP pad works fine, I just don't like it. If anyone does like the pad and wants a working one I could sell it.

The first PDP MKX pad I received right on the dpad did not work so I had to send it back to Amazon for a replacement. No issues with the current one and I do like the layout/feel of the pad. Buttons are super sensitive in the menus but in game seems fine. Haven't tried it with KI yet.

Okay, I don't know if i'm the only one who is having this issue, but currently whenever I press a button it registers it like 3 times in a row. This makes it especially annoying navigating through menus, recording stuff, and it makes it harder to combo breaker on Killer Instinct. Sending messages is a PAIN in the ass, I have to be so fucking gentle everytime I press a letter, if I press it normally I get tthhiiissss.

I know it's a pretty trivial thing to complain about, but I don't see why I'm having this issue. Whenever I'm playing I don't notice my inputs registering twice, so why does this happen in the menus? I've been putting up with it since launch but it's sooo fucking annoying after awhile. I honestly love the feel of the pad and it fits my hands perfectly, but this one minor issue might stop me from using it altogether.
This is not a trivial thing. I had the exact same problem. It's mainly with the A and X button on the xbox pdp pad. Messaging is absolutely horrible. Not much of a problem in game for the most part but sometimes it will mess up combos by inputting button too many times. I advise everyone to stray away from this pad. I have reverted back to the original Xbox one controller.

I decided to try playing my default xbox one pad, and my god I'm playing so much better. I'm pretty sure the buttons are as sensitive in game as in the menus, I just didn't notice it or thought it was human error.

Hitting multiple buttons on the PDP is rough so it sucks for KI breaker/shadow-wise.

I tried the PDP for the first five days but went back to the CronusMax/Mad Catz where I can MB moves without hitting block first and easily do 1+3, 2+4.

@FlappyDaniel It worked, Throw does indeed work for 1+3 in that string.

I also know Stance Flip = 3+4, X-Ray = 3+4+Block, and Interaction = 1+2. Is that all of them or am I missing any?

At this point then, I think I'll return my PDP Fight Pad, since everyone is having so many issues with them. Since mine is unopened, I can still get a full refund.

My first pad the Y button stopped working after a week. So I just exchanged it for a new one. Both of them have the same issue as OP where the button registers multiple times making navigating through menus or sending invites a PITA.
The pad is not bad but it's not great either. The only reason I prefer this over xbox one pad is the 6 buttons on the front. Since I play claw it makes blocking and ex moves easier for me since I don't use my right thumb.
As far design it's not bad but it would have been better if the buttons were concave or just squared off. The buttons are also too smooth and close together causing accidental inputs.
