Mortal Kombat X - Tournament Console Standard?

What console should be major tournament standard for Mortal Kombat X?

Discuss what console you think Mortal Kombat X should be played on. Please refrain from starting console war arguements and the "PC rules console owners are peasants" talk. I didn't feel the need to include PC as a choice since most TO's can't afford nor have the time to purchase numerous PC's just for one game.

I think it's a no brainer that this game needs to be played on one of the next gen consoles and not PS3 or Xbox 360. I personally feel that PS4 should be tournament standard for the big tournaments such as SCR, BigE/Shin Blanka events, KiT, EVO, CEO, etc. As far as locals and small regionals I don't think it is a big deal whether or not if it is on both just because of the fact that the tournaments aren't having big prize payouts, major-like entrants, etc. I do own all next gen consoles and a gaming PC but being that the PS4 has a GPU that is 50% more powerful than the Xbox One, generates textures faster, and a better controller, (IMO), I think the PS4 is a better choice and is also cheaper. (Unless if you decide to buy the XB1 without the Kinect.) Discuss!

@Vandy
@Shock
@STORMS
@GGA 16 Bit

Tag any other credible TO that I missed.

Hey F4tal,

So honestly, I think it should be whichever console performs the best post-launch. As we saw with PS3 and X360, there can be various issues (slowdown, hotfix/DLC bugs, wireless controller issues etc). There things are affected by more than just GPU power; also system architecture, filesystem management quirks, etc.

There are also things like ease of managing controller swaps, ease of setting the systems up, etc. In addition to the gameplay, less hassle = better for TOs.

So this is a determination that should be made when the game is out, and we have a chance to test it on both systems in the real world. Then we'll see which is best suited for tournament play and make the right call :D

I don't care I'm not a competitive player anymore
I don't really care, but I'm not investing money into a new stick for a console I'm never going to own.

ps4, powerful, easy to disc and connect controllers, and stop crying about ur sticks please. It's not USF4 and many of MK players play on controllers and ps4 controller is much better then XB1 for fighting games, atm i bought CronusMax to play USF4 on XB360 with my ps4 controller and still want play withouth any converter too even if i got one, and more... if there is another exclusif character so SONY will get it first for sure

How does the One handle patches and stuff? Keep in mind, like 70% of the issues we have are because of the 360's way of not keeping fixes

I hatelove this game
At KI tournaments the x1 controller is super easy to disconnect and reconnect. That's a non issue.

How about a non bias opinion.

The controller issue is not ann issue because people mostly use sticks anyways. And many times they are dual modded to work for multiple systems. TOs will likely stick with xbox for a number of reasons.

1) KI has started the snowball for xbox.
2) Why buy more systems that don't match when the same one can be used for multiple games?
3) xbox is the current standard for fighters because of the lackluster performance of ps3. History is likely to repeat itself.

I can agree with this. I understand that is kinda dumb to buy a PS4 since most TO's have XB1 for KI but my reasoning also stems from trying out the same game on both consoles. For instance I played Tomb Raider, yes I know it isn't a fighting game, but I experienced ZERO problems with frame drops, lag, etc on PS4 where as on XB1 when I tested it I had quite a few instances where the game would lag, terrible frame rate on cutscenes, etc.

For people stating that TO's already have X1's and thus that's the reasoning don't seem to understand that Guilty Gear will be a PS4 exclusive like Killer Instinct is an X1 exclusive so in order to have it a tournaments they will have to have PS4's anyway so both consoles will be necessary to include all the exclusives at tournaments.

The game is not out yet and we should wait to see which one performs better and is more suited for tournaments before even getting into this, we don't know enough to decide anything yet.

This, very much
it cancels out the whole KI argument
plus we have a updated Port of INJ

but as said we should wait and see, which one performs better, but PS4 is doing a sick job on that since launch with every other game, but you never know

Otherwise this thread, is vote on which Console you own rather than which one will Run and perform better

I say ps4 because the simple fact is that x1 runs at 720p and ps4 1080p and I've played on both next gens and ps4 has no monitor lag x1 does like crazy that's why my vote goes for ps4

And some people prefer ps controllers and it fucks them up when going to Xbox. Luckily there are converters so everyone can be happy.

This issue won't and shouldn't be resolved at all until a few weeks after the games launch. It'll take that long to see which version performs the best.

I haven't bought a next gen (current gen now I guess) yet and the main game I'm looking for is MKX, and one of the deciding factors of which system I'll buy is which console will be the tournament standard.

It'll be interesting to see how this turns out! I would hope that the PS4 becomes the tournament standard, but I'm sure console-exclusive characters will be banned.
