That's the best part.
If I lose, I get to paint myself up like Quan.
If I win, I get to do all the things necessary to make my Cyrax Chi suit.
I just wish we had a spanish announce team to call it.

I reckon PL is just salty that after 10 hours in the lab, he just can't do a single 'McFly' special.

Joking aside, that's pretty rude to just turn up and insult peoples efforts. If you think the KL community is lacking tech, knowledge, whatever you want to call it, by all means come on in and help.

A Kung Lao player whining? This thread should not exist. These are the only button inputs you need:

Exactly lol and let's not forget about standing 3. its 8 frames and 0 w/ good pushback on block. Why Laos don't use this puzzles me.. Anyways we have 21212 and 3, counterpoke problem solved.

3 doesn't lead to anything, and tends to whiff when not point blank.

Also, this is a legit problem that is only really presented when a character can deal with Bird Lao better than the rest of the cast.

Sorry for posting incorrect data. i still believe it to be useful in counterpoke situations and spaces perfectly for 24 but thats about it. THTB Bildslash add to this so I can get my knowledge right.

here is my thoughts on countering crouching characters:

2121 can be very useful if you mix it up with 21 during pressure, they can get hit if they expected the string to end. canceling 2121 into ex teleport whiff grab makes it safe if they dont have x ray, it extends your pressure bceuase youre in their face with armor and in this case it doesnt really matter whether they are crouching or not. it only costs half a bar because you built the other half with 2121 on block.

b1f1 is useful if you use jumpkick+divekick. after you land it is hard for them to react to a 7 frame special mid with a good hitbox. so opponents will just try to crouch and wait for you to do a high hitting move, which opens up a b1f1.

you can also mix up b1 into 21 because its hard to know when the string ends. what I also do is just a naked b1 after I land from a dive kick during neutral. some people try to whiff punish the whole string b1f1. if you just do b1 into backdash 24. you can punish their whiff punish attempt with 24 spin depending on what move or character they use.
The bolded bit lost me. Care to elaborate?

Agreed, it's time the Lao community starts leveling up their footsies game. The problem isn't about Lao's pressure game, because even trying to hit him can get you caught in a 30% meter-less launcher. It's about his sub-par D3 and D1 and lack of a viable mid hitting string.

The character isn't meant to win poking wars, hell if he had good counter pokes he'd be almost broken. He's supposed to make the other player think twice about poking him in the first place. Good Lao's shouldn't be eating double D3's unless they're consistently trying to counter poke with 21 instead of a poke of their own, which is plain greedy since Lao has good pressure. If a character is just neutral crouching check them with F2s, rolls, grabs and spins sometimes.

One of the only things I don't see the Lao community do that I would like to is discussing nice ways to blow up counter pokes. Somebody mention'd B3 avoiding all low pokes or something like that earlier. we need to start leveling up things like that.

I think it was standing 3 that whiffs low pokes. My question is how useful is 3 in counterpoke situations?

I dont really like to use the term but its basically what people call bird lao and more specifically how I like to use it. if you are using jumpkick divekick all over the place you will have full control over the air especially in the cage and sonya matchups because they dont have anything to control the air.

it makes the neutral footsie game a lot harder for the opponent is youre using the jumpkick divekick, because it limits the oppponents options of jumping and whiffing stuff, because you never know when kung lao will stop divekicking and land right next to you and 24 whiff punish you for 35% meterless if you are pressing buttons.

the natural reaction would be for the opponent to crouch block and they will respect you a lot more allowing you to have acces to more options like b1f1 which is slow but hits mid and does 6% chip on block and is hitconfirmable for full combo.

another example would be after you land from the dive kick and immediately go for f2 which has a very good hitbox and is an overhead. this can make the opponent stand up again which means kung lao can use his blockstrings on you, also it is harder for you to anti air if you are in crouch state and kung lao is sneaking in a jumpin while divekicking.

it depends on the pokes your opponent is using for example after kung laos 21/24 on hit the opponent has to respect your standing 3 unless they have a d3 that lower their hitbox which makes your standing 3 whiff, armor is also always an option.

standing 3 is a bit underrrated in these situations imo because it is still around 7% on hit and youre at +4 it also leaves you at the perfect range to 24 from where you are standing. its 0 on block with pushback, people who are just mashing pokes will whiff allowing you to immediately dash in for a 21. some people even mash an uppercut if they block a standing 3 which grants you a free combo.

Bird Lao, I asked myself the same question many times PL, then I took a page outta your book, and write a book on it, bird Lao was born. It completely nullifies all the low hitboxes and crouch dependent players against him, its not made their strength, into their biggest weakness.

Use it with a bit of observation of your opponent, and you'll see that Lao can be just as dominant as a character like Kenshi.

If it just wasn't for those pesky robots, that keep catching Bird Lao's in their nets. Or that actor that collects Bird Lao's and cages them :D
