Question Sektor's viability and general outlook

He looses Match-Ups that matter and wins ones that don't. So long as Kenshi's in the game he's not going to be winning any tournaments by himself.
I think he does ok vs the top tier. Smoke is on the fringes of upper tier and Mileena isn't a top tier at all and those are his two hardest imo. Sonya is a little tricky as is Kenshi, and I think Sektor is one of the best characters to use against Kabal. He goes even with Cyrax, even with Kitana, beats Jax, even with Cage (might lose not sure), even with Raiden, even/beats Lao (more inclined to say even). So overall he does ok.

EMPEROR_THEO

I only use characters with wakeup scoops.
Sektor's true placing on the tier list will be discovered when someone completely exposes the holes in his offense.

Take Jax for example. Back in late 2011/early 2012, Jax was considered S tier until high level players exposed his f413, 123, f4overhead, etc, etc, etc. Now with all that stuff exposed about Jax, he's still considered to be either slightly higher than mid tier all the way to #9 or #10 on the tier list. Even with all that offense taken away from him, Tyrant still dominates with this mid tier/A- tier character.

Sektor is already mid tier by default, with all of his suckiness undiscovered. I wonder how much on the tier list he gets lowered once all high level players expose the crap out of his offense just like they did to Jax....

He's only doing okay right now because people are still letting him get away with murder. His matchups are only going to get harder once people learn how to abuse him. His lack of armor and fast mids are going to kill him in the long run.

Never seen it on stream link brah(No casual matches pls)? I've watched virtually every major.

EDIT: No one has ever punished Sonyas strings. I'm like 95% positive... Sektor maybe twicw
I do it all the time. I try to deliberately give my opponent the opening to do the punishable strings.
Need to work on punishing Sektors strings a little, but its still not THAT difficult.

I will punish Jaxs F413 string 100% of the time, Kabals 11B4 a majority of the time, Kenshis 114 etc etc.
Its a very basic concept and its quite suprising that the MK community as a whole still aren't doing it, despite knowing about it for a year or more.

What's a Smarrgasm?
The "Abuse of holes" angle be used to refute Sonya and Jax viability. How many people have ever punished Jax or Sonyas strings outside of training mode Lol. Just sayin'... I think he is viable but just doesn't dominate any relevant character
Did you watch anyone vs tyrant at WB that didnt have a big hitbox? Its the only thing that is stopping jax. Sonya doesnt even use her duckable strings really, theres no reason to. And someone vs gross was punishing his strings too. (May have been khaotik just like vs jax)

Oh yeah, I forgot his wakeup game sucks. Better off just blocking when you get up a lot of the time against characters that can exploit it. But he's still good.

Although I do fancy the prospect of just being awesome for winning against bad matchups without realizing it because the other player doesn't have the matchup experience required to beat Sektor. I wish I had more players to practice with so I could actually know. But I feel like the other players learning to punish holes in my strings will teach me to use them more conservatively and we'll have an evolved matchup. Or I'll get salty and talk about how bad the character is before switching to Kabal. Lot of possibilities, lol.

I think what it boils down to here is the skill of the player for sektor. The same can be said about any character really (well, almost). I don't really main sektor, he's more of a secondary for me, but I find he struggles against people with IA projectiles, or anyone who can zone really well.

That's just from my experience though, don't take anything to heart.

The point I was trying to make is that Jax/Sonya/Sektor/Raiden are still tourney viable nonetheless. Sektor to my knowledge has one fully Combo punishable string which I hardly see getting punished and even if it did, it opens up a mix-up opportunity (ala Jax F3~ exFireball or Raiden *insert punishable string* ~ teleport)

I think that Sektor is totally tournament viable.

First of all I don't think anybody has really done well enough with IATU, that is one of the best tools in the game if your reactions are on point.

Also I understand that you guys see the holes in Sektor's strings, but he has plenty of ways to avoid people from just blocking all day and waiting for an opening. Red Reaper does this against me so often that I've stopped neutral ducking the 4 against him. Even if you duck it, he can whiff cancel it into EN Teleport which will beat a lot of punishes.

Waiting to duck a standing 1? What if does B3?

Waiting do neutral duck the 4 in B34? Sektor can space it so that B34 doesn't whiff against almost every character, plus he can do B3 and just stop, do another b3, or do B3 xx Flame. (B3 is +/-0 on block)

In footsies he has plenty of ways to handle himself without holes: B1, F2, B2(1), Flamethrower, B3, D4, etc.

His zoning game is strong mostly because he controls so much space. IATU means very few characters should ever outzone him, and he can just control the whole screen with B1, Flamethrower, Straight Missiles, Up Missiles, IATU, etc.

I too at one point used Sektor (Got 9th at the SCR before this last one with Sektor only) and dropped him just because I thought he had too many holes, but LEGEND and Red Reaper showed me that he has more than enough ways to cover them.

Red Reaper needs to stop jumping though.

.... they mostly come at night. Mostly.
Sektor is underrated ..... and he can do some decent +30% middle screen damage, escape zoning if using well timing, and has a decent corner pressure. His main weakness is his mediocre wake up tool and people who play predictable abusing TU.

he can do considerably more than that!

B2 38%

b34 35%

if sektor players start abusing grab more, start maximizing their combo damage, improve reaction times for iaTU, and start utilizing all his tools in his moveset (every move sektor has has some sort of use), then we would see alot more sektors blowing people up
