Low tier table talk today. The ninjas usually don't get much respect due to their lack of useful projectiles; but against the likes of Cage, Sub-Zero actually has a good shot to take a few victories.

Cage lacks a real threat to zone which will allow Subby to play his turtling game a good deal here. If Cage tries to get spam happy with his glowing balls, Sub can either slide under them or simply freeze and combo off that. From midscreen and close distance though, Cage has an edge due to his quick striking shadow kick. Cage needs to be cautious from midscreen as well, though, due to Subby's ground freeze which can lead to a free uppercut. Up close, Cage certainly has the edge in terms of options. Again, the ground freeze of SubZero is a problem that must be taken into account. Staying on the ground is highly advisable for both players; especially Subby who will encounter a barrage of AA options from Cage. It's a close match all things considered, but Cage would have to have a slight edge 6-4.
  • How can Subby bait the shadow attacks to miss?
  • What are Cage's best options to stay in close?
  • Who has the better CQC?

My favorite match as Cage... it's a classic! And so much fun, at least as Cage.
This is a game of cat and mouse for both fighters. Cage is trying to peck his way in close, and Sub-Zero only wants Cage near if he's in the shape of an ice block.

CAGE
Two words- get in. No way is this a winnable match for Cage unless he is within sweep distance. The challenge lies in ACTUALLY getting in close, however. Sub-Zero has an anti-air roundhouse that will knock Cage out of jumps 10 out of 10 times. So try to time your jump kicks at the time when Sub-Zero throws a freeze. Once in close, the world is your oyster.... or should I say, Subby's body is your punching bag? It's a good idea vs Sub to use jump-around/crossover kicks, because if he ground freezes, you can jump-around kick him, and resume your attack when he gets up. Sub can run but he can't hide. Eventually you'll trap him in a corner, and that's where you can jab him most effectively. Only use his green ball projectiles from afar when it will win the round if traded with a freeze (or if you're trying to bait a freeze from Sub-Zero so you can JK).

SUB-ZERO
Cage will eat threw Sub up close like a knife through butter. Fortunately, Subby has some nice options to keep Cage away. Namely, his roundhouse and ground freeze. Sub-Zero isn't going to technically "win" from afar either, but he probably is going to lose from close up. Use clever freeze baits and moves like golden punches, to play mind games. Slide very rarely. If blocked, you'll be punished or at the very least, end up right in Cage's wheelhouse. If Cage throws a projectile, you want to trade hits for a freeze anyway, not slide under it. Of course, Cage expects Sub to run away, so a good tactic is to suddenly get aggressive with Sub at times.

I agree, 6-4 for Cage.

I think there's a mk2 forum for this game. Just thought I'd let you know.
Well, I guess we now need to add neon lights and a marquee around the edges of the screen that say "MK2" to all of these posts.... :p

JK, it's all good. Just be sure to read the title and sub-forum before posting.

Unbelievable. I suppose some of these guys were in diapers when MK2 came out though... can't hold it against them

Frozen Death (ANTI-TIERIST)
This is a 6-4 match favoring SUB! He simply has too many options to bait poor Johnny into making mistakes. My personal favorite is faking a freeze and getting Johnny to jump in. As long as SUB stays away from the corners he should be just fine. I would enjoy a CALDWELL vs CROTCH_PUNCH (aka Jason) set of 10 on this match-up.
Lag is also an issue for SUB, if I can't roundhouse then I can't win this match.

The last time I played a few Cage vs Sub with Mike, I did win most of them (he probably was drinking that night though). It was at that point that I realized Cage has a slight advantage, because Mike has the best Subz on the block. I'm ALWAYS down for a set of fighting anyone's Subby with my Cage  Sub0's-Icy-Balls you still haven't added me on PS3. We were gonna do some Sub vs Jax weren't we? And AGREED, using the ninjas in lag is terrible. When you can't anti-air roundhouse with them, you know lag is fucking you over. Basically in MKAK delay lag, all you have to do to win is jump kick someone, because anti-airing is nearly impossible.
