also any one who says ''oh the only thing that makes him good and viable is the rune trap'' well ONE thing can make a character top tier ONE little thing for example:where was sonya before the full armor on cartwheel?where will kenshi be if he had more recovery on the spirit charge?where will cage be without f3?will kabal be the best in the game with more recovery on iagb?will jax be good without gp cancel? hell fucking no. understand that one thing a character has can change a lot.so please stop saying he needs that fucking shit because in no fucking fighting game in the history of fighting games you get BADLY punish for blocking and having good defense.

ps.the only quan player i respect is insuperable because he is outstanding with other characters unlike other quan players.#yolo #dontquoteme #swag

Quan Chi is without a doubt the most interesting character design in this game, and his functionality is part of what brings color and uniqueness to this game. A character based on math. It's fascinating. And how about we stop insulting the players that use him? Of course Insuperable deserves respect, but this isn't about him being able to play other characters. Any player who dedicates themselves to Quan Chi HAS to be good. Oh, yeah, the rune trap is so broken. You just have to save meter and touch them. Bullshit. Playing with Quan's borderline awful tools AND managing your meter AND not breaking combos AND having no way out of pressure AND playing a character 100% based on mind games and gimmicks.... Yeah, you can't be a shitty player and do well with that character.

Just the fact that the community is so split on Quan Chi being "broken" is a testament to the fact that it's not as clear of an issue as that. Everyone knows Cyrax's resets are broken. Everyone knows that Jax and Smoke having 100% reset combos is broken, even if the top MK player uses them while complaining about Quan Chi. But people can't agree on the rune trap. That's because it's truly unique. There's something beautiful about it. If any other character had it, we would unite in protesting it. But due to how Quan Chi plays, and the actual nature of the character of Quan Chi, the rune trap makes sense.

When Brady went on KTP with his tier list, he got to Quan Chi, and he let out a sigh, saying: "First of all, Quan Chi players, I see what you mean now. He really does need the rune trap." As time goes on, and players improve, and Quan is understood by all, there will be very few top players that take issue with the rune trap. And those that still do will simply find a way to justify bitching about it while at the same time cheering for it and supporting a Quan Chi player simply because he's on his team and plays well with other characters.

This is also a game, a series rather, that has always had stuff in it that isn't in different fighters. Remember MK1 with Scorpion's spear? That kind of move didn't exist before MK. What about the Ice Clone? Revolutionary game mechanic. Tekken and SF characters can't put a person-sized static projectile on screen that freezes you if you touch it. So I don't wanna hear people saying, "In no other game do you get punished for blocking." There's a lot of shit in MK that is different than other fighters.

Here's hoping that the final match at Evo comes down to an 80% Rune Trap for the win.

I think your Jax might disagree with that statement bro.

P.S. Insuperable is an amazing quan player.

Edit: Is it a threat or gimmick? Yes it's a threat, taking away 60-80% of your life bar is a big deal.

I don't know if he's broken or not, it just sucks getting punished for having good defense.

It's more than just a "gimmick" in my opinion.

I think Quan Chi players are good and they have my respect, but having that in your arsenal is a big deal and as has been stated a game changer, like X factor.

What I love about this is that it was 5:30 in the afternoon and Jr has clearly been drinking. Good shit Jr. :)

Killphil

A prop on the stage of life.
Lets not forget that he builds meter faster than any other character save for Skarlet. The rune trap combined with the properties of Ex trance make him quite a dirty bastard. I try jumping out between his rune traps when playing my friend. An on point quan will lock your ass down once he gets you with a trance. Thats all it takes too.

I think Quan Chi has to be one of the most braindead characters in MK9.
The actual inputs of the rune trap are easy for sure. What's not braindead is being able to use this character against good rushdown opponents. To manage your meter that way, to have no tools to get out of pressure, to be severally punishable on block, to have a terrible teleport. You seriously can not be braindead to fight against a good player who knows the Quan Chi matchup. That's why we've only seen Quan in a top 8 ONCE. In a game of mass IAGBs and F3's and 100% resets, I don't want to hear about Quan Chi being braindead.

Get on that hook
sorry had to comment.

Quan is far from broken. A broken character often has lots of favorable MU's. quans slow normals and reliance on unsafe moves put him somewhere in the mid tier range. The rune trap itself is not broken, it is just unlike anything in the game. without proper quan experience you cannot hope to prepare for him. what he does have going for him is 60-80% comeback potential, meter dependant of course.
60-80% comeback potential chip damage :D

Quan Chi is a really good character if these sum up
1.- He's upclose
2.- He has meter
3.- Player can hit confirm and antiair.

You don't even need #2 if 1 and 3 happen.

Well WGC is considered a world major regardless if none of the US players attended. Its still considered a major though.
