What's new

Help please lots of how to question...

I finally bought a gaming console and MK9.

Things I need to know to atleast to improve my game xD

1.) How do you do dash punches? I want to know for Jax and Nightwolf so I can juggle like a baws.

2.) When I get knockdown how do you tech roll back, tech roll forward and stand up immediately?
I guess what I am asking is what buttons to press to do the following.

3.) How do you do a wake up attack? I know not all special attacks are not wake up attack but everyime I try do to a wake up attack it just rolls or stand up and do the special attack.

4.) How do you do Fuzzy Blocking? Even if your blocking it wrong you still block it... Wtf how do you do that and they should fix it.

5.) How do you do Instant Air Projectiles? I use PS3 controllers and it is difficult to do continously or just to do atleast one lolol.

6.) How do you cancel moves like Ground Pound or Kabal's Dash?

7.) How do you train in single player mode?

I tried looking these question in basic gameplay but can't find it.

Off topic... How do I give someone credits for helping me out on this website?

Depends on the character that you are using, some characters do not have an instant air projectile at all.

6.) How do you cancel moves like Ground Pound or Kabal's Dash?
To cancel Jax's Ground pound you a have to do dash right after the special move is initiated.

Theres No Escape
1) forward forward, Square/triangle depending on which punch you're using
2)Hold in the direction you want
3) Only some moves can be used as wake up, but basically input the the move a second before your character is lying still on the ground
4)Fuzzy block, i don't really use it often so i can't explain to you, sorry.
5)Who are you trying to do instant air projectiles with?
6)GP- Dash forward/backward/ block , Kabal's dash - hold block is easiest
7)Go to Training, hit Practice. Select characters. Press start when in game, hit R1, set AI to whatever difficulty you want. Enjoy

Theres No Escape
For both, jump backwards and input the projectile command as fast as you can. It takes some practice.

1.) I can connect the first dash punch but then when i follow it up with more dash punch it seems so slow unlike the pros :(
5.) Kabal, Kitana and Mileena

God Dang... Now i have more respect for the pros lolol this seem impossible on a d pad.

Well pretty much all my question are straight forward with a straight forward answrs lol I tought there are tricks you guys do to make it easier. I guess i just need sharpen up my gaming.

5.) Kabal, Kitana and Mileena
1)That's why they are pros though, they've put in countless hours to get the timing perfect. Its all about practice.
5)Kabal - jump backwards, at beginning of jump hit back back square as fast as you can.
Kitana -jump backwards, at beginning of jump hit down forward square as fast as you can.
Mileena-jump backwards, at beginning of jump hit back forward square as fast as you can.

once again, all about practice

you just gotta practice bro. theres no easy or quick way to become a "baws" in any fighting game. the game keeps track of how much time you have spent playing as each character; i have spent a total of 12 full days as reptile alone, and imo i still suck lol

Mk9 was my first fighting game and it took me about a month just to land the jump in punch everytime, so I wouldn't worry if you can't do these things. It all comes with practice and getting used to the buttons. Alot of these things come naturally after a few months. Good luck bro

I used to just watch stream tournaments and youtube videos of mk9 ever since it came out. Just didnt have the chance
to buy and play it yet because I am constanntly very busy but not anymore :D. I said f*ck it i am missing out and bought this game. I main Quan Chi I got his BNB combos down already and what to do to win thx to shujinkydink, hidan, and Soup, Mayo's videos.

I dont even need to learn dash punching to juggle combos, Instant air projectile because quan chi doesnt even have one but If i learn every character and what is their weakness and strength I can improve my quan chi. Just playing against one i think is not enough

If you're on PSN I'll be glad to play a few matches against you later tonight. Especially if you need Smoke/Skarlet/Subzero experience.

"Thanks" button abuser.
kabal instant air gas blast on a pad.
back, up, back (slide your thumb) and 1 inmediately (square on default config?)

get familiar with MK nomenklature too. (1,2,3,4, xx, ",", b,u,d,f, etc). It's really basic but helpful.

1. Well Nightwolf does not have a dash punch. Jax's input is DF2 (down forward and then 2). In case you did not know the notations.... 1=square, 2=triangle, 3=x, 4=circle (on a ps3 controller). You can find out inputs for all specials in the move list for each character.

2. You cannot roll forward in this game. I don't think you need to do anything special to stand up. You can always hold up I guess and you will get straight up. I tap the backwards button to do a tech roll backwards. You can also stay grounded by holding down when you are on the floor. Sometimes helps to escape opponents who are eager to jump on your ass all the time.

3. It looks like you are mis-timing the wake-up attacks. As soon as you are knocked down then input the special and you should perform a wake-up attack. Can't say anything here but just get the timing right. To really see what it looks like, put the AI on wake-up in the training room. Knock them down and see what it looks like. As you said, not all specials are wake-ups so know which are for your character.

4. Fuzzy guarding isn't a broken concept. It simply occurs because of animation times. Basically if you are blocking Quan Chi's B3,1+2 , the first hit (B3) is low and the second (1+2) is overhead. So lets say you block B3 in a crouch block state. Then you know that the second hit coming out (1+2) is an overhead so it must be blocked standing. Depending on your reaction time, if you release down (so that your controller now reads you are stand blocking), the animation on screen may not give your character enough time to fully get up and block the overhead. However, you may still be able to block the attack, but you will still appear in a crouch blocking state. So even though you released the button at the right time (which is all that matters anyways), you appear to be blocking both hits in a crouch block state.

5. This question appears to be covered above by other players so I won't answer it.

6. To cancel Jax's ground pound when you input the command for ground pound (any of the 3 types he has), you can immediately follow up with a dash forward or backward and that will cancel it. Most if not all characters with cancellable moves have to dash forward or backwards to cancel it. Find out who has a cancellable move and how it can be cancelled. Other example of cancelling via forward/backward dash are charge moves e.g. B2 for Cage, Ermac and Sub Zero. The exception to this cancelling 'rule' is Kabal. To cancel the Nomad Dash, you input the Nomad Dash and then follow up with the back button plus block (B+BLOCK). This is imperative if you play Kabal and want to learn the dash cancel shenanigans.

7. What d'you mean exactly? Despite the flaws in MK9's training mode, there is still plenty of stuff to do. I suggest looking into the training mode menus to see how you can set up the AI, the factors of training mode. To get some good practice in for anti-airs for example or counter poking etc. etc., I normally play against the AI on expert mode in training. This ensures unlimited life bar health so I can stay there as long as possible. This is just an example. Training mode can be used for all sorts of things such as what I mentioned above, just practicing combos, working on different set-ups and so on and so forth.

Hope this helps. If you have any questions, please ask. I'd be glad to explain things further.

You are most welcome.

Oh ok dash then punch I see. Yeah you get the dash block and I think someone listed above how to dash then punch. It's quite simple. Glad I could help anyways.
