Need help with a 2nd and possible 3rd!

So here it goes. I have been playing Mortal Kombat since it came out. But since then I have constantly been changing mains around and back ups. This time around I want to be serious and master two to three characters only. I say two to three because I want diversity in my play style and to counter whatever is thrown at me. I main Kenshi now and will never drop him because I love his look and love his playstyle. But Kenshi (the way I play him) is a zoner from mid to full screen. I want one to two other fighters that are good up close and possible mid screen. The fighters I have played and grown to dislike are:
Scorpion (played him since UMK3 but just can't play him anymore)
Sub-zero (Cyber and Human, same situation as Scorpion)
Noob-Saibot (Kenshi is a better zoner IMO)
Smoke (Everyone is using him and I don't agree with his style)
Sektor (Used to be my main guy but he has just grown stale to me and loses to most other fighters)
Cyrax (Net and Bombs just don't work, they feel cheap)
Deadly Alliance (Both are really awkward to me)
Rain (Slow feeling)
Kabal (Dash Cancels hurt and IAB are hard, props to Kabal mainers!)

Now I know most of that list eliminates good options but I really don't care. Thank for your advice guys :)

Well this is kind of hard to make a suggestion then...you've eliminated 19 characters, most of which have different styles from Kenshi( almost all the heavy hitter rushdown characters)

I would say Skarlet, but the dagger cancels might be off putting, she's a very techniqual character.

Kitana is more accessible than Skarlet, maybe her.

Well picking from the very characters there are left that have decent rushdown I would say the following:

1) Kitana
2) Skarlet
3) Mileena
4) Reptile

Who wasn't eliminated: Freddy, Skarlet, Kitana, Jade, Reptile, Sindel,Sheeva, Mileena, Ermac, Nightwolf, Baraka, try them all out I guess since you don't seem to dislike the remaining characters.

Well to a lot of people I think Kenshi only bad MU is KL. Some people say he loses to Kabal and others say kenshi beats kabal. For the most part Kenshi is 5-5 with every1 or beats everyone. Down to your question I think a good ALT is Cage or Sonya. Preferrably Id chose Cage becasue he beats KL pretty badly and hes a lot easier to learn than Sonya.

Cage, Kang, or Jax then.

Sonya if you like her miltary stance shenanigans, the others because they're slighlty more accessible.

Cage is good, I have tried him before but not to the extent of learning any combos. Kenshi, IMO, is ran around in circles by Kabal) Never played against a good KL to properly say anything.
