Tekken 8 Post-Release Discussion Thread

Any opinions on the ongoing controversy?

Namco released a stage for which they are charging $5.

Even players who bought the Ultimate Edition for $110 have to pay for the stage.

Consequently, players have been criticizing the game on Steam, diminishing its review score.

Harada tweeted an apology, which has been deleted. The tweet can still be read here.

Namco also banned Essence XCC in the middle of an offline tournament last weekend because the player "does not reside in an eligible country under Tekken World Tour 2024 regulations."

According to the rules, players from China and Russia are not allowed to compete. Essence XCC is from China.

Namco has recently amended the rules by allowing players from China to compete at the LCQ.

I think punishing an individual with no power or decision making capabilities to spite that person's government is foolish. I just don't understand how he made it that far to begin with. Like you said, Namco has had a change of heart due to the backlash and refunded the player and invited him to the LCQ. I respect them for doing that.

As far as the stage shit goes, I don't like those types of business practices across the board. I will commend Harada for at least explaining the position of the company as opposed to ignoring the way most developers do.

I know alot of dorks in the MK community threw a fit over the cost of seasonal fatalities but this reaction to the Tekken stage seems so much more dramatic. I don't understand why people care so much about this stuff.

I also don't get why the player DQ thing is such a big deal. A guy broke the rules, got caught eventually then got kicked out. If the community didn't like the rules so much why wasn't there outrage like this before hand?

Don't even get me started man. To avoid writing a master thesis on this, it's just scummy. Scum of the earth. For Harada, one of the most stubborn "don't ask me for shit" proudly stating guys out there to issue an open apology, you KNOW it's bad yet there's still some people defending it anyway. This is literally NOTHING like optional fatalities for Halloween, literally no comparison. This is the definition of indefensible, using semantic arguments as if it's the consumers fault for being duped even though Tekken 7 had the exact same verbiage in their passes. You buy a season pass, you expect the season content, no one on earth, not even Harada apparently, expected a character stage to be sold separately.

This is how these things become normalized. It's incomprehensible to think that you pay $110 for a game including the Season 1 pass, only for a character stage to be charged separately. It could be $1, $5, $20, 50cents, it's the blatant manipulation that should be ruthlessly criticized before starting YET ANOTHER anti-consumer trend to become normalized. We JUST had Lidia in the pass with her stage, like every pass ever does including Tekken's. I will NOT buy the next anything out of principle solely due to this unless this stage is given to pass holders for free. People need to start voting with their wallets more to the companies regardless of if you like the product or not.

As far as China being banned, it looks like they already resolved it and put him back in Top 8 so at least they fixed that blatant mistake of theirs. Hopefully they fix the others.

I've heard all those talking points already but it still feels empty to me. I could not be bothered to have a second thought about a new stage. Did anyone even buy the passes on the hook of new stages?

I'd rather no new stages ever came out. There have been enough eye-sore, obnoxious looking new stages. Remember that plane stage in SFV? Fucking hell

You miss the entire point. Even if you hated the stage it's irrelevant. You're not receiving something you already paid for. People keep being okay with anti-consumer practices then wonder why anti-consumer practices keep getting worse and worse over the years. This was the logic that got you paying $5 for Frame Data in Tekken 7 with a smile on your face. The billion dollar corporation is not your friend.

I'm not missing the point, I'm missing any care.

I wouldn't have paid for the Tekken 7 frame data and I don't see how those two are comparable.

There's a time a place for outrage but a stage isn't it. That's Internet nerd shit that makes all complaints sound whiny and immature.

Many people paid for Tekken 7 frame data and didn't see a problem with it (hence paying for it) which is why they continue to do anti-consumer actions such as charging for character stages during the actual character pass that was already sold. You'll continue to "not care" until something happens that you "do care" about, and by then it'll be too late anyway because you've established you don't care how you're treated as a consumer. You like it.

I've bought the main game. I have my character. There's nothing else I could care about.

Buying a game that didn't have frame data in 2017 is crazy. Sorry to those poor souls. Idk what hypothetical situation you could think of that wouldn't be met with an appropriate reaction and get changed. Bitching about a stage isn't it. It's pathetic.

Again. Were stages explicitly mentioned as part of the pass? If not this whole thing is embarrassing.

You do understand that the first character released with the pass came with a stage that was included with them?

So no, stages were not mentioned, because all evidence at that point indicated that you'd be getting both. There was never ANY mention of having to buy stages independent of characters and passes.

So yeah if true this is a bad look for the cry babies. Y'all got a free stage that wasn't part of the battle pass and now the next stage that released isn't free and everyone acts so entitled. Enjoy the increased battle pass cost next season or no more stages lol

Acting like a child isn't going to make a company "respect you as a consumer" or whatever the hell the point of all this is.

Exactly, not only that, but it was the same in Tekken 7 the stages were never "mentioned" because everyone knew they were included. Not only that, but not just Eddy in T8, literally just the last character Lidia released with her stage. Etc etc. Everyone always does, this isn't something new or confusing. There's legit not a person on the planet that thought a stage would be sold separately, apparently not even Harada which is why he issued an open apology to fans (which he rarely ever does he's the guy that says "don't ask me for shit" to complaints) and pledged he'd be more involved going forward with those decisions (which remains to be seen).

Yet even after all that there's people like @LEGEND out there pretty much like "yea screw all that it's actually the consumers fault for being upset" lol. It's mind-blowing logic.

It's 100% Karen energy to get upset that something isn't free. The context doesn't matter here. There was no agreement or advertising from what I'm hearing.

Doesn't matter if I agree with it being scummy or not.

"The context doesn't matter here". Yes, context always matters. There's a big, HUGE difference between:

-company markets something to consumers exactly the same since 2017, charges similar pricing as always for their passes, does not provide content that every single consumer expects due to what company literally always does across 7 years and 6 separate passes, CEO apologizes stating that there is no excuse they dropped the ball explaining how the ball was dropped and things will be changed going forward to prevent such ball dropping

And

-consumer is upset because they have to pay for an additional item they wanted to be free

You're doubling down so heavily that you're literally going against Harada's own super long apology to the consumer. You're the actual "defend the billion dollar company" meme right now when not even the billion dollar company is defending it. Think how far away you have to be right now to end up like that. Might as well email Harada and let him know he was wrong too while you're at it.

@LEGEND , I do not necessarily disagree that the Tekken community is overreacting, but as @SaltShaker has already stated, nobody wants Namco setting precedents that take advantage of its consumers.

If Namco can charge $5 and avoid the repercussions, they will charge $10 the next time.

Get off the billion dollar corporations dick, bro.
I am not convinced that you are the voice of reason on this matter.

People like you and Crimson consistently apologize on behalf of WB and NRS.

If that is true then look at it another way, if even @Vulgar isn't defending this who is typically very supportive of gaming companies and telling fans to just play the game, even ones like SF and Tekken if they like it, then it really must be that bad lol.

No chance I'm ready this lol. You've typed way too much over this
TLDR: "Context doesn't matter" is legit the weakest argument I have ever heard on any topic in a very long time. Context ALWAYS matters. You've doubled down on a losing argument so much you have regressed to "context doesn't matter" to try to make a point.

There's no argument to be had. We just don't agree. I'm telling you all you are being dramatic babies and aren't entitled to shit. If you don't agree cool. Have fun being upset 24/7

Your posts are dripping with angst. You've got pent up rage over something, this topic isn't that deep. Focus on your real problems.
