What's new

Why has mk11 lasted for 2 years?

Have you ever thrown out a forceball with Reptile in MKX, and knew the opponent was going to jump over it? So you stop that bitch midair so they land on it? There's no feeling like that in MK11.
I get that feeling whenever I know they'll eat my armor breaker for a massive punish.
Or micro ducking something and punishing.
Or making any other really satisfying read.

How is this not a thing in 11?

Because that's all universal. You didn't even mention a character's name. Its like I said, if MK11 is fun, its because fighting games themselves are fun

Oh, okay fair enough then.
I feel that way every time I smell a d1 turn steal and use Spawn's low parry and score a KB or combo, and to launch for said combo and know that the armor break will hit and cash them out making the damage scaling from the parry irrelevant.
Or any time I can use Soul Forfeit in round 2 and close the sale.

Is that sort of thing more applicable?

People complain and bitch because they lose and they'd rather blame the game than their own decision making.

There's no way someone would continue to play a game two years after release if they didn't enjoy the experience. Still though, you gotta protect that ego with the occasional "OMG guys I played for 800 hours and the entire time I was ROFLing because it is soooooo terribad! Anyway, I'm going to uninstall and never play again but don't worry I'll still complain about KL on the daily."
I hope people realize that this isn't always the case. There are masochists who continue to play for reasons unknown, and then there's people like me who have consumed every single bit of NRS content (including all the Midway stuff since MK1) and just genuinely dislike MK11. It's not fun to play OR watch. If my reasons for disliking it were simply because I suck and can't win, wouldn't I still enjoy watching it? Even at the highest level, this game is an absolute borefest to watch. It's difficult to watch the streams with so much fake hype. It's quite obvious that a lot of top players dislike the game, but continue to play only because it's the current MK title.

MK9 and MKX are still pretty beloved among the MK community. The only reason MK11 is still somewhat relevant is because there's no game to replace it. No one will be going back to play MK11 once anything new comes out. Unless of course NRS continues down this path and makes another boring fighter.

Just give us remastered MK9 with proper netcode.

T has lasted because the base package is exciting, fun, and gorgeous and they have iteratively injected new content.

They could enjoy the same success with INJUSTICE 2 by simply adding new gear, New towers, New guild towers, or porting the INJUSTICE 1 stages into the game. People would go back and play and would gladly pay for the DLC

I think MK11 has way better character variety then MKX, both in just character selection and gameplay. Thought Injustice 2 did as well. MKX had cool characters who would run up and mix. MK11 has that along with characters like Cetrion. MKX had more interesting setups though

too weird to live, too rare to die
I want to like this game so bad. I loved it when it first came out. But it got stale quick and i went back to SFV. Ive tried to come back to it a few times but after a few matches i quickly remember why i quit. Strings feel super clunky, zoning is lame, fatal blows are unbalanced, and i hate the variation system and wish they would just stop with them altogether.

You will serve me in The Netherrealm
If you mean by now then that is completely different. I simply pointed out, that in the prime days of those two games, there were tournaments all over the globe -if you wanted to attempt all, you would have to be able to split in half. While MK11 came out, and there was no interest regardless of the pandemic (which kicked in laaaater on).
This take is so incoherent and divorced from reality that I can't even begin to engage with it. MK11 was just about to finish it's first Pro Tour when the lock downs started.

Lol, I was thinking the same thing.

Hey everyone! Remember when NRS decided to cancel the last chance qualifier and removed the audience from the pro tour final and y'all said they were overreacting? Do you remember -why- they had to cancel all that stuff?

It would be amusing to dig up that old thread and see how well the overreacting arguments stand up against 500k deaths in the US alone.

MK11 is still around because there are a lot of people who like to play it. For those who hate the game, there are other games and other hobbies, even during COVID. I don’t understand people who dedicate a large amount of their time and mental energy talking about how much they hate a game. Then again, there are people out their who’d rather have their balls stepped on with high heels than get laid. To each their own, I guess.

People complain and bitch about the game but yet it's lasted 2 whole years and there's still planned content for this game? I find this mind boggling since this game is so "trash"
A lot of folks just wanna spam combos all day in training mode. Since this game's combo system is more restrictive than the other titles, they naturally think it's "trash." I get this response pretty frequently on MKX. It honestly exposes how little some people understand (or want to understand) about fighting games.

I personally see MK11 as the most blanced & honest MK we've had. I guess someone could find that boring as well. To each their own, I suppose.

Exactly, and to be fair to each on their own.
You can easily see that with for example SUPER and Maximilian.
They almost jerk off when they land a big flashy combo.
(When I just think about MK9/X Cyrax with 5 minute combos, I am really not "enjoying" this as an opponent ... I want to play not watch a "combo movie the game", you know ...)

But then we have a game like KOF, and they don't stick to it as this is now starting to be TOO hard.
I am honestly sure that KOF's high execution barrier keeps many away even tho you get so much combo freedom. The flip side, learn those real just frames ... and now most people leave ...
(unspoken fact, most people just don't want to acknowledge that)
Edit: I think KOF is totally designed to be played on stick, so all pad players are already with a huge "handicap". But the arcade times are long gone, no one has told SNK this tho, so don't ask yourself why your game will always be "niche", it's too hard for the "big audience" ...

Just my observation, and don't get me wrong, Tekken7 to me has the best gameplay.
(even tho I play lately almost only MK11, it looks so fantastic and KL for me is way more motivation than ranked in Tekken7 with way more flaws to point out. (just one example: ranks are saved locally? Already to me a "false" ranked mode ...))

I had so much fun with MK2 back in the day (a really special game to me) but for today's standards, I could easily see how this game gets boring fast.

Well said. Again, it comes down to what people like/enjoy. If you want a combo-heavy game, this isn't it. If you want a more neutral and fundamental oriented game, this is it.

I play MK11 and I really hate the game. Why? I really don´t know, I get mad when I lose, i get mad when i robb the set with a FB or D2 KB, I play 2 sets of the kombat league daily and i turn off the PS4, maybe is by inertia of playing the saga since 1994

"Mind Over Matter" I dont mind, and X dont matter

Yup only 807 players at our first MK11 major. Clearly no interest :coffee:

Now count all the offline tournaments MK11 had during these two years, in US and Europe, and then try to enjoy that coffee of yours.

And on a side note: the current state of the game, and the shit storm around it, never had been so massive. Even in Cyrax/Kabal madness prime days, we didn't witness circus like that. Only thing we're missing is clown and monkeys o top of the shit show. Oh apologies , the clown is already on board....

There's been barely any offline tournaments for any fighter this past year. There's no clear explanation other then that the FGC is just dead boys

NRS hasn't released a new game yet and people like Mortal Kombat. It's pretty straightforward. I haven't logged into this forum in a long while, but I just logged in to see people bitching the same amount as they did 10 years ago. It's exhausting.
If people are still complaining about issues from over 10 years ago, then that studio has piss poor management and game decisions. When do we start questioning the company and not fault the gamer
