Rain general discussion

MK1 is the best MK period.
The more I play with Tidal Wave, I think it's his best move.

It makes anything safe, creates a poke mind game, chip out scenario, insane space control, and it covers forward roll.

Don't get me started on the mindgame of meterburn or not.
This is all truth boys I found something cool with it too. I'll post it when I'm free.

Starting to thank he'll be pigeonholed into hydroplane, tidal wave and either hydro boost or palm geyser

Not cause the other moves suck, but this combination just makes him a bit more consistent as a character

Honestly the air quantum slice is no joke in some matchups. Some characters just cant even play neutral properly against it. I’m not high level or play against high level anymore but its -9 on block non MB and -6mb with pushback.

You can just lame out any single hitting projectile character pretty bad with the portal parry and force hail mary shit which is easy to punish with his movement.

IMO obviously.

Also- bubble is just total trash right?

His regular bf2 is just straight up better, makes no sense to use a 2 slot move for like 30-40 damage.

Only reason i would ever use the bubble is if it kept them in the bubble on trades or it linked off 133. As it stands now i see absolutely 0 utility in using it.

I wanna try bubble in matches where its harder to whiff punish. It seems it would be good for defensive play, we'll see

Its pretty slow though, like wavedashing and f2 will be better in mostly any situation i can see.

Am starting to worry about the viability of quantum slice in the long run. It’s a 24f high that doesn’t jail off anything. You would think you can condition people to respect it by doing stuff like 134 and then do 13~slice, or stuff like B21~slice to cover gaps. I haven’t tested standing strings but I know that 134 is a 16f overhead with a FB gap and that means there’s an 8f window to OS punish the over head and slice easily. I love the move and the air slice because of the extra neutral control and mobility it offers against zoners, but I worry for it’s utility in the long term once MUs become more fleshed out

Plus on block.
Honestly it’s probably because I’m just trash but bubble combos outside of the corner are pretty inconsistent. Like half the time when I think I know where the bubble will pull them they’re off enough to completely mess up my follow up.

That's beacuse there is a window to delay the MB for bubble just practice it.

I use it in the neutral like a slow kenshi shoulder.

Go see how far it hits, its probably one of the biggest hitboxes in the game. Hits like 3/4 screen if they jump.

I have just read your status update.

Equip quantum slice, the ability to perform quantum slice in the air, and geyser palm and play an aggressive, mid-range zoning game.

Katar toss starts up and travels so fast that opponents cannot distinguish the regular version from the amplified version so they will be blocking your projectiles a lot.

While they are blocking, use Rain's excellent movement to dash in and throw, jump, force whiffs and punish with f+2,d+4, etc. Use quantum slice once in a while because of its big aerial hitbox like @Wigy said.

If you struggle getting in, EX diving quantum slice is a safe, half-screen "dive kick" that resets neutral. This move must be one of the best in the game.

1,3,3 is your auto-shimmy string. The last hit can actually be crouched so mix up with 1,3,4, which is flawless blockable, or 1,3 xx EX katar toss, which is completely safe.

1,3,3 xx EX geyser palm 2,4,2 xx geyser palm is an easy combo that does good damage.

For all other strings, including 1,3, use the EX geyser kick to launch.

Rain seems very good to me thus far... unless you equip bubble. LOL. I really believe he needs katar toss to be effective.

Maybe geyser palm could be replaced by tidal wave in some match ups, but I need to play a lot more games to come to that conclusion.

Most of these things I was already aware of, I think a lot has to do with the fact I really wanted to use the lightning,

I'm gonna stick with him a little longer, see how he plays vs the rest of the cast.

He gets zoned out badly with the water ball unless you equip it with edenian force or tidal wave. The bright side to it is that all his highest damage output comes from it.

I have waterball with geyser palm and can get easy 34% dmg mid screen without relying on jump in starters, KB's and FB's.
