A Perfect Fighting Game?

In your opinion, with all of the fighting games that you’ve attempted to play on a semi-competitive level, has there ever been a perfect fighting game to you?

One where you wouldn’t change a single thing if you could?

Thinking objectively and logically, personally, I cannot name a single one. Now, maybe I’m just a scrub, but moving forward, I‘m going to worry less about nitpicking the design of the games I love, and just enjoy them for as long as I can.

A perfect game doesn't exist. For any genre.

The closest I've come to for a fighting game though might actually be Killer Instinct (2013).
I really wish I could play that lol.

If I spring for an Xbox next gen or finally upgrade my PC, getting that will be the first thing I do. It looks great and I loved KI 1 and Gold.

What I love about it, aside from how smooth it plays, is that there's almost always options for you. Not other fighting game has ever made me feel that I've had this level of control before. The mechanics are fantastic, deep, yet simple to use (though hard to master).

Personally, I think this is very important. It makes it fun right off the start and easy for new players to get into, but adds a lot of depth and things to lab.
Absolutely. Games like that, the more you put in, the more you'll get out of it. But you don't need to know/master everything to enjoy yourself, or simply to play the game casually.

gg characters in general are pretty overloaded with tools especially in +r, even moreso when you have resources. and i heard people here like neutral and stuff so try checking older gg, fuck ton of character specific shits though so the game gets hard after a certain level, combos in general were even shorter than mk11, not too many tools in older games but they seem to cover everything and the game probably have the most varied offense ever despite everybody being a rushdown oki character

Definitely not the perfect fighting game even though i enjoy virtua fighter 5 final showdown. Sega took out quest mode which was in the original version of vf5 and made that version into a arcade game. They also took out the cosmetics and made people pay for them instead of including them into the game.

Depends on your definition. For instance if perfect balance is your idea of a perfect FG, then the original Street Fighter accomplished that.

All kidding aside, I do think that for a lot of people there is that one game that seems perfect, even if it has flaws. Sometimes you're just that exact right age, or in the perfect phase of your life, and a game just vibes with you.

I think a lot of people like MK9 not just because of the game, but because of how they felt at the time the game came out.

It's an interesting subject because there definitely isnt a "perfect" game, no matter how great it seems there's a fault somewhere.

However if I consider my own mileage from the game and how much I enjoyed i and look back at it fondly, mine is KoF XIII easily.
At the time we had a really solid offline scene so in the ~4 years or so I played it I never even touched the online (which was ass).
But man what a sick ass game, godlike sprites, amazing OSTs, very free engine and combo system that lets you waste hours in training, custom colors which I spent way too much time on.
I remember driving 1-2 hours like 4 times a week or hosting around 10 people at my spot just to get some KoF sessions going, Good times.
As someone who always plays like 2 characters max in any fg I play, the fact that I played almost every character in that game is a testament of how awesome it was.

Skullgirls and Killer instinct are definitely runner ups, but KoF XIII is hard to top for me.

You could say for it's time, MK1-4 were perfect right? And the same for SF and Tekken probably.

If For Honor is considered a fighting game then it gets my vote. Of course it's not perfect as a whole but gameplay wise it's up there.

No perfect games to my knowledge, but I do think Fantasy Strike is pretty good in the sense of it caters to very different archetypes and is simple enough to pick up and play quickly, but isn't mastered so quickly.

I think that's how I feel about Chess and other competitive sports and games that are extremely popular. Most of the time understanding the basics isn't an issue, it's just the full on application and nuance.

Killer Instinct comes close but I've rarely delved deep enough into a fighting game to intrinsically understand all their flaws. The big ones were SFIV, SFV, MK11, maybe T7, and early DBFZ. Closest for me of all those is USFIV. It was one patch away, but the direction the balance went was pretty deplorable. Lots of cool, viable characters though. SFV is pretty legit right now too
