I find it astonishing that the mascot of this series and NRS as a whole has seen nothing but nerfs.

In this game, that is supposed to be about "neutral", teleports like scorpions have no reason to exist. Maybe if it was a simple teleport used for projectile punishes I'd accept it but it's not. This character has amazing footsies and staggers and he plays the game perfectly. He is a well designed character that should never have had a teleport in the first place. Give him other means to do combos in the next game and go away from the "teleport teleport teleport" thing scorpion players have.

Lmao. People talking about footsies and Scorpion ruining neutral when characters like Jacqui, Geras and Johnny exist and run every top 8.

Oh shit Scorpion has a punishable teleport, that's not ok. Let's have Jacqui jump in from full screen over any projectile and stay in your face forever. If that's not enough give her a safe gap closer that results in a kb if it hits from far.

How about we're all alright with being able to forward dash cancels normals so they cover 1/4th of the screen in our footsie game and give overhead/low mixups to characters like Geras that make you afraid to even move anywhere on screen.

But holy shit a character with 0 legit mixups, 1 frame links on jailing from his pokes, not even able to fatal blow or d2 on a breakaway read outside of d2 kb, has a punishable teleport that can fuck you over for whiffing slow buttons from fullscreen.

Damn no wonder he won all those tournaments when the game came out...
 
Make his d1 +15 on hit, and remove the gap from f34, also his armor breaker kinda sucks. Other than that he is good
Would be nice if the amped Hellport popup would let the body stick closer to Scorpion or a bit higher, so he can get damage off d2 on breakaway read, faster startup on fatal blow for the same reason and also make it easier to hit his optimal combos on female characters, because every optimal gets so much harder on them for whatever reason.

That's all and the character would be cool.

P.S.: second hit of 11 whiffing on block on Johnny Cage, Joker and possibly other characters sucks too.

Other characters being braindead don't mean Scorpion has to be. We know they got some BS, people talk about it. Don't y'all be talking like we aren't complaining and wanting changes. But we can't make these changes ourselves. It is what it is.

Flawless blocking Scorpion's F34 rewards you NOTHING. Noone can U2 or U3 to punish that after a FB. (there use to be Geras but he got nerfed). And the frame data is still -7. The risk of eating F34 ranging from a knockdown to a KB into a full big damage combo. Don't ever bring out F34's gap as a negative here, dear Scorpion players.

People really act as though neutral is just footsies and projectiles...

I think Burning Spectre is a good variation

ryu too was nerfed in sf5 practically unjustly. there was no reason for his nerfs and he stayed that way for about 3 seasons of sf5. i don't expect or really want scorpion to be top tier but he and poster boys should be sitting comfortably at mid maybe mid-high
Where do you see scorpion? Bottom tier?

i see him as mid but the lower side of it. i mean just about every pro player had him bottom 5 pre aftermath patch. these "buffs" that they gave him probably moved him up 1 or 2 spots
Yeah, I see him as mid tier and pretty viable. He’s not amazing obviously, but even at the highest level he seems decent. That dude Avirk and some others make him look really good. Admittedly, I’m not familiar with Scorps MU chart at all, so maybe that’s where the issues lie, but it seems like he competes ok.

He’s definitely not high tier or on the level of the best characters in the game, but damn, does he really suck? I’m not sure.

It also seems like in mk11 damn near everyone can compete.

This just goes to show exactly what I’ve been saying for years now. People just hate teleports. Especially when they’re attached to a character that is played a lot. A lot of people do not understand how to deal with them. They want to be able to play their same game they do against non teleporting characters. They don’t like that they are forced to adapt and change up their play. Even when the character is widely considered to be low or mid low tier, like Scorpion is now by all the top players, he’s still complained about. Wild.

scorpion is good but he's been nerfed before for unknown reasons, unsafe on a few strings, and a couple specials that just aren't useful. the nature of mk11 is that everyone can compete because of how safe nrs played with the balance and mechanics of the game but it clearly takes more work to win with say shao then it would with say liu kang

A lot of people do not understand how to deal with them. They want to be able to play their same game they do against non teleporting characters. Personally I'm not against teleports at all. I think they add depth and variety to gameplay. That being said however, teleports like his do not belong in a neutral based game.

There are timings and ranges where some u2s fb attacks whiff on Scorpion though. Basically you have to u2 immediately.
BAs(block attacks) ignore blockstun and pushbacks as soon as they are activated, an attack can be safe if blocked or flblocked but if the recovery frame of the same move is bigger than the startup of an u2, that move is getting launched regardless.

Lets just ignore the buffs granted to D'Vorah, Shao Khan, Raiden, Kotal Khan and Frost that made them viable in this game, then, I guess.

Scorpion I honestly just painfully mediocre in this game imo, certainly not bad or anything, but why would you play him?

I ranted in here but the character is pretty good. He just has some bad matchups imo. Still think reborn is the best due to safety and hit confirms from the tele cancel, especially in a ft2 environment.

Honestly I dont think it should be so easy to negate his damage without any risk. People complain about his teleport but it's a guaranteed breakaway with no risk of extra damage. His f34 is a guaranteed breakaway as well, no risk at all. I think it would be fair to at least have some sort of counter play to this.

The b3 armor break is useless. B3 just gave scorpion a better lag abuse tool at 22 frames. It's not that slow but the animation is completely obvious. Also I feel the d4 nerf in the first patch was unnecessary.

FB attacks are really weird in some instances. Sometimes the block stun is so big that it allows you to cancel the flawless block late into fb attack, which either let's you confirm it (like with Shang Tsung's f242) or getting blocked if you are a few frames late (like with Kotal Kahn's 122). On top of that there's really weird shit where flawless block attacks actually whiff if you flawless block while crouching, but actually hit when you flawless block while standing like Scorpion's u2 vs Skarlets 124xxbf2 (I mean fbing the 4 part of the string, not the projectile, didn't test with other character's u2s).

Not saying that you're wrong, but if people say "Omg you can't u2 Scorpion's f34 on flawless block because it whiffs/gets blocked" or whatever, I'm inclined to believe that that happened to them because I myself have labbed and experienced various fb attack inconsistencies in real games and in the lab.
