if you meant (by saying official port) the regular unaltered version of the game, then you really need to learn your terminology here, because it sounds more like you are talking about shit like MKAK and XBLA UMK3.
(An fyi: Porting is the term used when a video game designed to run on one platform, be it an arcade, video game console, or personal computer, is converted to run on a different platform. This is not the same as emulation as porting means that they take the basics of the game, and re-write it so that it will be compatible on whatever computer or game system you're using. This makes the ported version different than the original version. Compare that to emulation which instead mimics how the original hardware or software handled the program. )
Unless you are gonna say using the actual arcade machine is bad for whatever reasons, mame is bad because emulation is bad and inaccurate, etc.

This tournament was held on an an arcade cabinet that was ‘homie-rigged’ with excuse me, PlayStation 1 pads, not Dreamcast. I almost blew a gasket when I saw this happening live because of the sheer idiocy. I remember I walked right up to Justin Wong who wasn’t so Hollywood then and asked him if this was seriously happening and he just threw his hands up like “don’t ask me” and laughed it off. You have to remember they were playing casuals for hours on this machine. I couldn’t tell you how many people I stopped at that event to point at the PlayStation 1 wires that were hanging from the cabinets like this was ok for an organized event. I’ve been to LAN parties for Halo 3 in the middle of south-side Chicago and it didn’t matter because this was a sanctioned event and I’ve never seen wires hanging from a Xbox entertainment system so that guy in the Trench-coat can use his Super Nintendo pad.

I remember a great Capcom vs SNK player was there and we joked about how this machine was probably going to end up a fire hazard before the event was over, Lol. We both wanted to compete in the tournament but when we saw that and all the failed inputs and frustration during the casuals, we decided to not even play on the machine and just held casuals in our rooms with other players who felt the same.

You have to remember that this was an opportunity for UMK3 to shine. SSF4, SSF2 Turbo, MvC2, 3rd Strike and UMK3 were the top games at the tournament. There were other tournaments going on too but those were main ones people could not wait for and it was held on an arcade cabinet that was ‘homie rigged’ with PlayStation 1 pads. I mean, there were people who tested UMK3 for a living there and I’m sure they walked away like “Are these guys on crack?”

Well that’s the difference between people who organize events and people like you who actually have no clue what they’re talking about because you’re sitting there saying it’s smart and ok to ‘homie-rig’ PlayStation 1 pads to an arcade cabinet. Again, this is why you leave the tournament organizing to the professionals like Big E. I’m sure he would have lost his mind if he saw that but unfortunately it was ran by people who were less experienced with this kind of stuff. Don’t get me wrong, Ghaleon and Fugee are great guys and this was in no way shape or form their faults directly but this is what happens a lot of times in smaller communities with isolated control. I’m sure both have gotten way better and I can’t tell you how amazing they were as people but again, leave things to the professionals. It’s really as simple as that and although they were the official TO’s, they didn’t directly organize UMK3. They just helped provide them the platform to organize their tournament and I’m sure they wouldn’t let that ever fly in 2020.

Everything I’ve said in all of these posts is true. I’ve even opened up to you guys about my problems back home with my Brother-in-law as well. I don’t say things just to hear myself talk, these are legitimate things I’m bringing up and no one can deny that. Maybe I am a bit of a purist but when it comes to tournaments and how the public perceives things, then I think it’s important that we have integrity and accessibility in mind at the very least.
