Anybody use Hitbox for MK11?

Hitbox is the best way to play 2D fighters without a doubt and MK11 is no exception. The Obsidian Hitbox is absolutely worth the extra $70 if you have it to spare, and if your pockets are turly lined with silk you'll outfit it with Seimitsu buttons. It is an absolute joy to use and reeks of quality and grace.

I've played MK11 on Pad, and I've played it on Stick.

They both felt gross and cumbersome compared to Hitbox like MK11 with it's dial in strings and dash cancels were designed to played with the precision movement inputs that Hitbox affords you.

No I just speak from experience. I went from not being able to execute very well on pad in Mortal Kombat and Injustice to memorizing optimal combos in an hour on Hitbox. It feels great. Both Stick and Box have a little wonkyness on the button layout debate but when you find something that works for you it all clicks trust me. Will this be your first time on Hitbox/Stick? Are you coming from pad to box?

Pad mk is fine. Hitbox is what i play on and ive been using it long enough for it to feel comfortable and prefer the preciseness and deliberateness of my inputs but it takes a long while to get comfortable on HB so prepare for the time investment.

Been playing on the same hitbox since 2012. Cleaned my buttons a few times, eventually replaced for a new color scheme but not because they were needing replacment.

You don't really need to buy a hitbox if your looking for a huge advantage. I'm sure some will argue with me about this, while some fighters benefit more from hitbox freedom I dont think its necessary for mk11 or the injustice titles.

With that being said I wont say you HAVE to buy one, but I will still suggest it for these reasons.

After the initial up front cost you shouldn't expect to have to buy another pad ever again assuming your not a violent gamer.

Let's be honest ps4 and xbox pads alike dont hold up. I'm sure many of you know that.

The big drawback to hitbox is some people give up or wont put time in to adapt to it and it ends up being a big waste of cash.

Your golden if you know someone who would let you play around on theirs and see if you think it's worth the purchase.

As far as quality design etc they are bad ass and I would reccomend them to anyone looking for something new.

I play on arcade stick and hitbox. There are certain things that still feel so much eaiser on aracde stick it's very inuitive. Hitbox can help you indentify inconsistency in your input. With enough practice anything is possible. However my pinky is still not really as strong as it should be for hitbox. Cross over combos are alot eaiser when your buttons are reversed.

They're both correct, and I will double down on the "Be ready for a time investment." because Hitbox will take longer than even Stick to become comfortable and fluent with. Like any control medium you have to dedicate to figuring it out. If you're actually buying the Obsidian, that's OK but listen. Use it for everything.

Want to watch Youtube? Navigate with the Hitbox.
Netflix? Hitbox.
Anything and everything? Hitbox.

Unless the game explicitly demands that you have analogue sticks, adapt your gameplay to Hitbox. Play Crash Bandicoot with Hitbox.

It's pure preference. It won't make you any better nor will it make anything easier, but you may like the feel of it and find you enjoy the game more with one. You also might hate it. It's really subjective.

I'd like to own a hitbox, but I'd have to ship one to my country and that would end up painfully expensive.
I used to own an arcade stick for the 360, which I could convert to the PS4, but I don't like the joystick for NRSes BF inputs. Hitbox would be awesome, but as I said... that would cost me up to 200-250 euros. That's the price for 4-6 new games or another console or an average to decent hooker. Priorities.

I could debate this with you as someone who didn't grow up using a stick. There are objective differences between the three control mediums and each one does make some things easier than the others. That is unquestionable and has to do with the style of movement inputs and the shoulders in the case of pads. Stick can whip 360's and 720's out like butter where Hitbox it's an awkward piano to say the least but it can be done. At the end of the day these differences don't lead to any substantial advantage because comfort and experience will always trump control medium choice.

If there were a distinct advantage to Hitbox they would not be tournament legal.

The time investment is seriously player specific. I think if you have been a keyboard warrior or PC gamer in the past it certainly helps.

I tried stick first and gave it two months and just couldn't get good on it. Hitbox was literally about 7 days and I was playing wonder woman at a higher level just because of consistent instant air demi goddess. You may be lucky and take to it like a fly to shit. Or it may be the bane of your existence lol. That's the mix haha

I absolutely love my Hitbox. It’s really just a matter of personal preference, especially since MK11 doesn’t really have any difficult instant-air stuff.

Thank you for this thread. I have a few questions myself. I recently built my hitbox, I’m on Xbox and it ended up being a really fun project but I messed up on the enclosure so I plan on buying one. Would any of you have suggestions for a great enclosure. Also if you have any tips on inputs or hand placement that you could share it would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve only been playing for about 2 weeks. I feel like I play to stiff and I’m still trying to figure out the placement for the shoulder buttons. I already hate playing on pad but I still do better with it. The hitbox actually taught me some things that I could do with the pad lol

http://www.jasenscustoms.com/ Just off a rough Google search. Under the featured on their front page theyve got some Hitbox frames for you. As I said earlier in the thread regardless of what control medium you use comfort is king so. More than just finding a layout that works for you or using mine you have to become second nature with the controller. Use it for everything even if its inconvenient. Let it replace your pad for literally every function you can on your console until it feels natural that's the only way you're going to get rid of that stiffness. Layout of the buttons is more something you'll have to find for yourself but I use:

Block - 1 - 2
Stance - 3 - 4

I use 1+3 for throws and to do FB it's just block+stance. To AMP I hit 1+2

Jynks

some heroes are born, some made, some wondrous
I also use a hitbox and love it but recently for MK11 I got a MixBox to try... I also love it... maybe a little more than a hit box as I find the movment controller to be a little easier to use.

I wrote a little review

HitBox / MisBox is a large learning curve but it is hard to go back. I still use stick for many games and consider myself a stick player but I have been slowing becoming a hitbox user only. I think its worst problem is that it is really hard to do 360+ motions and stuff... but NRS very rarly uses them.

My main issue with HitBox and why I tried the MixBox is that I find the UP button difficult to use. I'm not sure why, I think it is as the up button is sorta in the middle, my brain wants to hit it with my right thumb or w/e on right hand and somehow there is a short circit in my brain about which hand to use and I get slightly confused with hitting up. It is hard to explain but i struggle with it to this day. The mix box uses a classic arace stick layout for the buttons so there is zero change for your right hand and the movments are classic PC controls that a lot of people are familure with.. but for me its real plus is the the hands are so sperate I do not get that slight confusion in my brain about the up button.. I know exactly what hands should be doing what.

For MK11 on Stick and hit/mixBox I use

1,2,3,4
B, S, T, A

(remember 1+2 is the other key button for AMP.

The Obsidian Hitbox
I had no idea there was other brands of hitbox lol

These are Hitbox's only real issues really. For what it's worth I had to spend months training in Anime fighters for "THUMB = UP" to stop being weird as all hell.

Thank you both for for taking your time to reply. I’ve seen a lot of different options and a lot of different reviews so that’s why I asked if anyone had any suggestions about the enclosure in order to gather all the information I can before making a decision. I watched a ton of videos, searched everything I can find and still search everyday to learn as much as I can. Unfortunately I have not been able to find too much that goes in depth for hitbox and mk 11 and only a few good ones for older mk titles so I didn’t want to maybe miss a setting change or anything that would make the transition easier.

I’ll try that layout as well. I have the face buttons set up like the pad but the only other suggestion I’ve seen really is making the layout like the classic mk pad but it wasn’t comfortable for me.
