Jacqui Briggs Pre-Release Discussion Thread

Your mind tricks won't harm me!!!
First impression was I didn't like it. I like the color scheme, but the jacket seems out of place. Wearing a denim jacket over combat gear just didn't seem to mix well.

I think her default skin is good, but I'm not a fan of the colors.

I actually really liked her 3rd loadout. Normally I don't care for the "lets have this character fight in an evening gown" look, but it looks so good to me that I like it.

yeah i'm not sure about the 2nd-need to see other colors and closeup
but her base skin... i love the look of her dark skin against the bright/light colors. also its a callback to her father's alt from mk9.
Her 3rd is beautiful and much needed IMO. It get's her out of that military brat 24/7 persona. but i'm glad there is something for all Jacqui players.
Also NRS claims that we still have NOT seen her fav SKIN.

Not shown. But I'd be willing to bet its a gear move. She used to have that absorb/reflect move. I bet she makes similar use of this reflect wall
My understanding, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, is that there are no gear moves in this game.

She uses that thing in one of her throws, her fatal blow and a fatality. I wouldn't be shocked if there is a special move or two that they didn't show yet (they never show every special) that uses it. I also wouldn't be shocked if there are no more, and its a remnant from an earlier build (maybe it gave her a corner in the middle and was too broken or something) that they thought was cool so they left it in certain moves.

Ok, not gear. I guess we're calling them abilities in this game?

I'm referring to the abilities you are able to choose from when building a loadout

Jax > Jacqui

I don't want Jacqui to be constantly forced on us to try to make us accept her as a Jax replacement.
its like the devs even realized that during the developement of mkx and then included them all. now cutting 50% of the kombat kids seems like moving away without admitting a mistake. i dont think were gonna see much of them after mk11.

I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying that female characters shouldn't get angry? Or that when they do angry, they shouldn't scowl?
It isn't a scowl, that's the problem. The top half of her face is neutral, but her mouth is just hanging open like an idiot. I'd love if she actually looked angry, or ferocious. But that look she's giving is something that happens a lot in these games

Good thing she's not a replacement then and we're getting both characters in the game.

It should be obvious that she's not a replacement going by yesterday's stream and trailer, which you can't really comment on because you said you avoided watching both.
She's not a replacement, but doesn't it feel like she was originally meant to be?

Actually, no. I got it. I finally understood the real reason I don't like her.

It's because when there's a new female character I want her to be her own thing, not a She-Hulk situation.

She didn't get infused with radioactive bionic arm oil to turn black.
She's a Supergirl situation. And Supergirl is more popular than Superman.

Supergirl situation is the same as She-Hulk situation: instead of coming up with a new idea, the writers just give the female character a second-hand idea that was first used by a male character.

"It's like X, but it's female!" as if being female was a variation from the norm enough that you don't even need to, you know, give her new powers or a new story.

Jacqui is kinda like She-Jax.

Yes, sometimes, over time, they change that rule 63 version of the character enough that she becomes popular on her own, like Supergirl. But it's still the same basic story that was used for another hero.

Now I better not continue this discussion because I know just mentioning gender is going to get some people screaming at me.

So, I'll make it simple: AFTER ALL, I DON'T CARE WHAT GENDER OR SKIN COLOUR JACQUI IN, SHE'S STILL BORING.

You have the right to not like a character.

But a female equivalent of a male concept is actually gender equality because Supergirl is not a weaker version of Superman, Jacqui is not a weaker version of Jax, but equivalents in concept with their own unique traits and personas.

Historically speaking, characters like She-Hulk and Supergirl were made exactly to prove that Marvel and DC are both going with the times.

Or She-venom. I had a good chuckle over the comic book art for that one. Someone didn't try too hard.

I get what you're saying, but I think Jacqui is enough of her own thing. She has a couple of Jax's moves, which would make sense narratively, but Jacqui is more tech heavy, and seems more mobile.

I get what you're saying but it seems pretty clear that Jacqui is not just Jax but female. Especially this new, rebuilt version of Jacqui.

But I'm totally on board with your general point that we can and should (we being just the entire entertainment industry as a whole) do better than reskinning male characters as female characters and calling it a day.

One thing to remember though, as sad as this sounds, is that She-Hulk and Supergirl were big steps at the time. I think things have gotten much better, and if they did that shit now people would be more nonplussed.

Y'all are right, nothing else to add.

In any case, even if she certainly is not 100% She-Jax, her true problem is that she feels boring to me.

I've actually had ideas in how I might like her.

1) Jacqui as a cyborg?

2) Jacqui as a buff woman (think Zarya from Overwatch)?

Both of those things are tropes in their own way, but they'll give her flavor so she can fit in a cast of sorcerers, mutants, monsters and people with fancy clothes.

Quite alright.
Me, I'm immensely glad that Jade is back, finally.
She was so weak back in 2013. Now she's likely to be a straight up beast.

I didn't even play Injustice 1, and picked Kitana + Tanya (#ISupportKiTanya) in mkx, then my one true DC love Starfire in Inj2.

We can't always have the character we adore, but this game has plenty of great concepts for everyone.
From what I'm seeing, there are many others who love Jaxette.

You have the right not to.

Pick someone you enjoy and have fun!

Lun, baby girl, sometimes we try to find a reason within ourselves why we don’t like a character and often times there is no answer. Some characters appeal to us and some don’t and you don’t need to justify that to yourself or to others you know?

Have you ever seen the Rain?
Nah they are rad, you have to actually read/watch their shit there's lot of good stuff
I never liked overpowered characters with very bland names and trillion of different abilities/powers. I always liked the villains more as well. So nah, those characters never gonna make it through my harsh to-have lists.
