DOA6 Discussion Thread

Just fought a Diego who halfway knew what he was doing. Holy shit. Homeboy has some plus frames. I thought it might have been lag at first that I couldn't do anything on block despite the connection being good.

Nope. KK is +9 on block. 236P is +6. His 18 frame low is +11 on hit. Solid 12 frame mid with 6P too. This character is a rushdown monster. His movement speed also increased a bit from the beta.

Really felt I only came out on top because I have a ton of bullshit with Bayman that people just don't know how to defend against yet. I might actually look into trying Diego next now though.

Alright guys, I know it's probably annoying with my constant noobish posts, but I just wanna say that I'm kinda excited right now. I had a Hitomi vs Hitomi match where the opponent was just countering (or holding) every move I did after the first hit and I lost the first 2 rounds rather convincingly.

Then I went back to my roots and played like sub zero and just kinda stood around and made them come to me and did I or 2 hit combinations and threw them a fuck ton of times and won round 3 convincingly and they quit countering and I won rounds 4 and 5 for the win!!

It kinda felt like I learned a bit in that game and I think Hitomi syncs well with this play style. I wish I could share the replay I saved of the match lol. Anyway, earlier today I was contemplating being done, but now I'm just excited to play more.

Also, thanks to the guy who posted the Hitomi bnbs, even though I can't ever land them (they ALWAYS get countered on the second P haha), but they forced me to learn a lot more on my own. :)

Diego is definitely a good pick I fought against a rank C last night and I won 2 rounds out of 2 matches. I didn't fight him enough to know where the gaps where tho he's super quick. And he kinda figured out that I block right after I use a string on block so he kept punishing me with a throw D:

It's not annoying! It's cool to see people enjoy the game and grow with it. Yeah, Hitomi is easy to counter, I spend one whole match just doing that to her and the opponent didn't want to rematch but you know, mix it up and use her kicks they're really good too. Find out what her stuns are in training mode.

Your ranking system thread reminded me of something I was gonna post yesterday in here @Vslayer

I'm not sure the ranking system in DOA is very accurate...

You have to lose A LOT to derank, yet win very few to rank up. Currently I've upped my rank to D, yet I don't feel like I'm actually on that level with a lot of the opponents I fight in that rank. I only win 30% of the time yet my rank is climbing. It doesn't make much sense lol

Every time you rank it fills that bar halfway and then losing takes a bit off, but winning takes maybe twice more. I do think they should balance how much you lose for a loss though. But you also get people who are really great players and are just going through the ranks so fighting them in any rank is possible too.

I think the first time I played the full game online I was matched against Tweedy17, not sure if it's our Tweedy but I got bodied to hell and back.

Hmm, I lost like 15 in a row last night when I was trying to pick up hitomi and deranked to D- , but then I only won like 4 or 5 before I ranked back up to D. And I was in the Es a couple days ago, yet my win loss is something horrible like 58-180 lol

EDIT: OH and does anyone know if you get credit for a win or anything if your opponent disconnects/pulls their ethernet or etc? I had 2 games in a row last night that I was winning 2 rounds to 0 and 2 rounds to 1 and the opponents left.

I think how many points you lose may also have to do with your performance, but I'm not sure. Sometimes I don't lose points even when I lose the match, but sometimes I lose a lot.

No there isn't any penalty for disconnects it just doesn't count. So people can rage quit and not get a loss.

Really enjoyed your Tina gameplay, I got to D- with her but I think I'll have to do way more work to get to C level.

I noticed right away how you didn't use full strings for combos and instead interrupted before popping the opponent up and going into the grab which is probably what I need to start doing. I'm used to NRS models of just chaining string after string to make some hella long combos but in DOA it's easy for the opponent to just hold and wreck you.

yeah you should basically never go for the full string because its too obvious

except when they dont expect you to go for the full string anymore so you SHOULD go for the full string cause its no longer obvious

doa works funny like that

just don't do shit that leaves you like more than -6 against grapplers or -7 or 8 against normal characters cause its gonna lead to a lot of guaranteed throw punishes on block

*edit*

although a lot of people have shit grabs and honestly taking like 7% damage is better than eating a potential mix after you lose your turn. I think too much with a grappler mindsets sometimes.

That's what I love about fighting games, getting in your opponent's head is like the best feeling ever.

I'll keep that in mind next time I play.

So with the ranking system in this game...do you start from scratch every character you learn? Or are your points shared just amongst your name?

it's shared and it's weird because in the game you have a player level, a character level and then your ranking, but the only thing that is taken into account is the rank.

Soooo if i rank up with a character for a good amount and learn a new character, I will still have those points & matched up with ppl with a similar rank even though im trying a new character?????
