Choose Your Destiny - PND Breakdown on Baraka

The next part of what appears to be a new MK11 series from PND Ketchup and Mustard is out. Part 1 went over how Sub-Zero is playing in the new entry to the Mortal Kombat series. Today, we have Part 2 looking at Baraka and how you can represent your Tarkatan pride at Combo Breaker later this year.

Mustard, slowly proving himself to be one of two MK11 technical experts outside of NRS, walks us through everything this character can do right now, from the utility behind his strings, how to do his krushing blows, and how he fits into the current lineup of the game. We also get a solid look at his variations: what is universal and what you can do to make the Baraka that best fits you. For those of you not that into Geras at the moment, you'll be happy to know Baraka can get a command grab. Video is posted below, and expect a part 3 coming up soon.

Watching this really makes me interested to see what the tournament variations are going to be.

If they're like what we saw during the reveal event, then I'm inclined to believe that the "Hack and Slash" variation will far and away be the most used, simply because of MB Gutted being a consistent launcher. "Flag Day" being second because of the stuff you could do with the flag, and "Bone Deep" being the least used due to the command grab and the spine shot replacing his chop chop and blade charge.

If I can somehow get a tournament variation with the command grab and the Gutted special, then I'd be a happy camper.

Saw this yesterday and was hella impressed on they're the only ones who really go in depth with the content captured at the event. Baraka is looking like a strong competitor. Simple combos strings, with a fast mid projectile, accompanied by DAMAGE! Yeah...im trying out this bad boy. Baraka is BACK!

Can we give the spine shot to sub please? That easy AA looks great... reminds me of clone :p

I'm gonna fuck around with baraka simply because of that move and my inability to AA with standing normals lol

MK2D

Have you had your MK today?

I also like how he uses Reptile’s MKX VA. He had by far the best comments in the game. I wonder if ol’ Rep will get a new one?

Reptile will skip mk11 probably. I'd appreciate it. people would cry all day for reptile and he gets the respect he deserves

Play Monster Hunter!
Baraka is a weird character for me.
I would never ever main him, and I always feel like he is low tier and sucks, and never has anything cool.
However, I always miss him when hes not around, always happy to see his smilling jobber face.

So glad this useless pile of toothy garbage made it back.

Lawless Victory!
Let's see:

b312 - low starter (can also be special cancelled)
b2 - safe overhead, causes knockdown on hit. Condition opponent with above low starter then shampoo (mix) them up with this.
f4(4) - advancing normal, great for whiff punishing. Can be special cancelled
F2,1+3 - Knocks opponent full screen, gives baraka time to set up war banner or projectile zone.

His Oki revolves around war banner, projectile and safe overhead mix up.

He has a simple game plan and playstyle, focused on pure fundamentals (spacing, zoning, neutral, footsies and punishment) as opposed to the other flashier, more combo and launcher centric characteris. It is therefore imperative to set up war banner to get that extra damage.

I wonder if his anti air special beats teleport attacks?

I wonder if you have to stay close to the war banner to get the buffs. I hope it works anywhere on screen.

During the Dragon vs Tweedy match at the reveal Baraka landed his fatal blow where he puts down a flag after its over. Tweedy chased Dragon down and the flag was way off screen and then threw Dragon for 152 damage. Throws normally do 140. 10% increase in damage it looks like probably not a pure 10% damage increase though because of all the hits in the throw adding scaling.

Maybe the further you are from the banner the lower the buff is. The buff incident you describe seems too low to be yielding at max.
