I'm back mutha****** and this is legit the first thread I thought of! Zoning General reporting to duty!

Looks like MK11 did right by us and removed the abominations in MKX, so we'll get to keep the playstyle we love so much. I'll be policing the new Academy like a hawk, and any incident of insolence (praise of 50/50s, asking for better jump ins, etc) will be met with immediate hostility and potential banishment from the Academy. We must uphold the Gold Standard at all times, the zoning standard, the Zoning Code.

I've got an idea that I was going to implement for this one but thought of it too late in the game.

When we launch, I'll maintain a list of players who are using zoning characters and their tag, or offline names if they're not on TYM. So it will go top players first, then TYM highly regarded players, then everyone else per character. Color coded with a label. As the game gets more developed I'll add variations to that as well. You can just copy/paste to the OP and then copy/paste the updates. I will message you after you create the thread to confirm the outlook as I have two separate ideas for it, but it will look something like this (with player tags in a spoiler)-

[[[Scarlet - Scar Top Player, Dragon Top Player, EddyWang TYM Great Player, Gibster13 Great Zoning Player, John Doe Lesser Zoning Devotee, Jim Doe Lesser Zoning Devotee

Shang Tsung - WoundCowboy, Gibster13, Mike Doe

***Blue color coding highlights top players-Green great players or well known TYM players-Brown Zoning dedicated players*** ]]]

That way we can have a directory-like place where we can see or follow all our zoning players at each level of play, as well as get games when we want to face certain zoning characters as well.

This kind of ranks you propose suggests that by default tourney player > non-tourney player, or known player > unknown player, which time and time again has proven to be not always the case.

A simple list of players seems like a better idea, is more than enough to get games with the character you are willing to practice against, and you form your opinion about the ability of the players by getting games with them, and not by their perceived notoriety.

Also, when entering online, everybody is in the same battleground no matter if the player goes to tourneys or not. There is no need of separation. So I think we should stop creating artificial differences and just play the game, which by the way seems like it's going to get the best online ever, and reduce even more the difference between playing online and offline.

Just my view on the subject. But if you like your idea go ahead.:)

I see your point, and it's open to all suggestions. We are here 3 months early!

I do think there should be some distinction between a player like Dragon and an unknown who joins TYM in April barely stringing combos together though. If anything, maybe I can simplify it in the sense of "players who are known or have played others in any capacity" and "players who are relatively unknown or are learning". Obviously this can be adjusted as an unknown player earns some rep or becomes skilled in the game, and hopefully after a few months there would be more players leaving the latter category.

Your new age king of zoning is here. We will zone no matter what in MK11. Make people cry even when the projectiles aren't that good like Baraka at the reveal lol.
When I started watching your game at thr reveal and saw a few projectiles, first thought in my head was queue the chat crying about "spam" in 3..2..1... And boom chat blows up XD

@SaltShaker , welcome back!

I agree with Ismael. I am against ranking or tracking players. High profile players like Dragon and Tweedy do not need "distinctions" over newcomers. Everyone already knows who they are. I think we should welcome every person who wants to zone because I know Mortal Kombat 11 will introduce new high level players to the community.

Also, I have begun working on the basic format of the new thread, which should be posted sometime soon. We can add details later considering we do not know the full roster. I am hearing Noob may be in the game. If he is, I am learning the game with him.

Good to be back! It never feels like you never leave here!

Yea this makes sense the more I thought about it, and simplifies it as well. As long as we have everyone accounted for it'll be great. Especially considering the growing player list we will have over time.

If the Noob whispers truly turn out to be reality that may be my starting point as well. He was the exclusion that hurt the most from MKX. It's only fitting he returns in a game with this style format.

Epic AF. This is easily the most hype thread we get running on TYM.
