I personally just hate her because her d1 goes under mine but that’s mostly because Red Hood’s d1 is garbage altogether. In my experience at least, the rest of her tools are irrelevant.

That being said, she didn’t need damage AND safety.

People have been crying about her since the Beta, when she had some broken tools -- it started before most of the current players ever picked her up, and just continued through launch.

Her playstyle deters her players to actually learning MUs and other characters. She's just too braindead really, she almost never has to adjust her playstyle cuz her neutral just beats everyones.

It really is an All of the Above situation. She isnt defined by one or two things in the way some characters are, but by the multitude of her options... She's like Ken from SFV.. A bad SG can still get a lot of mileage (I play her, I know) out of just being a fucking scrub - characters like that engender hatred.

SG players begging for damage is equivalent to Flash players begging for a fireball.

She wasn't good pre-patch -- not having a safe footsie string in a footsie based game isn't a recipe for success. The reasons people respect her now are:
1) She hits hard enough to not be able to shrug off the damage and
2) She has a footsie string you have to respect, rather than just blowing her up on block for more damage than she does to you.
3) She doesn't have to end every block string with a bar of meter, so she can actually build it

You should also consider that she was competiting against pre-patch Black Adam, pre-patch Aquaman, pre-patch Atrocitus, pre-patch Catwoman and others at that time. Eating 400-550 for canceling into breath on block (or just completing the string w/o meter and having it blocked) was a death sentence.

Of course, usually when competitive players say "bad" they mean "not upper-mid to top tier" rather than absolute worst in the game. But these changes inverted her glaring weaknesses and turned them into strengths.
