As I said on that post if he extends he can hit you while you recover. Max distance is much bigger than in MKX so slide is only really useful at close range.
What recovery? It has like 10 frames of recovery. The idea is to whiff the slide, so preferably you want to be outside of its range.

Mid-range can be good too, especially against the rifle, of which Sub can Slide under it if DS doesn't MB it. And if it's between close to mid Range, Sub can Slide under the Rifle projectile and hit DS even if MB it, right before the MB version starts.

If he extends the shots, the slide doesn't last for long enough to evade all of them, that's what I'm talking about. Some of them will hit you as the ending of the animations doesn't low profile.

Do any sub zero players here also find sub zero particularly annoying to play against?

That's hardly a big deal. The shots after the 1st shot of MB deadly assault deal very little damage, and MB wrist cannon shots don't have a long duration. Then there's slide punishing b12u3.. all in all, SZ shouldn't struggle as the rest of the cast against Deadshot.

Does it really punish u3 or is it only if he commits to something

Holly shit Buffalo did it again! He won WOTG for the second week in a row and only with Sub-Zero! And he went through chars like Bats, Sups, Atro, Adam and Aquaman! This kid is amazing, just proves how good Sub-Zero can truly be. Rooting for him for the finals this Sunday!

It's all so very confusing.

Love seeing it. I dont play Sub, but he's one of my favorite characters to watch, I love seeing Buffalo play him.. And he was playing out of his mind.

Started using Sub, have not followed the character before that at all. Is he a solid character after all the patches so far? Anything weaknesses I should be aware of? Thanks.

Where's the Love for Sub ?Question mark?

Would LOOOOOVE to fight against other Sub Zero players so we can learn from each other. Anybody else play Mr Zero?

I was in the lab checking stuff and I've discovered something interesting along the way. It turns out that Sub-Zero's Chill Out String (B233), while it knocks the opponent down but in a regular way which allows the opponent to do a Tech Roll afterwards, if you finish a Juggle combo with this String, it causes a hard knockdown, which means the opponent can't Tech Roll at all, as you can see in this video.

Anyone know if the BASE STAT Changes for him changed anything?

As of now it seems Sub has received No Buffs where the majority of the Bottom Tier have. So if this is the case it literally leaves Sub right at the Bottom. Still quite early where patch notes haven't been released so maybe just maybe there is some sliver of hope.

Fingers crossed something has changed for the Better but yeah it's not looking good...
Just a stats modification... Buffalo went too strong too soon lol.
He is not at the bottom, you are worry too much. Also Buffalo only proved that Sub can go, you just need to play to his streangths. Try to play as Sub-Zero rather then ask for buffs all the time.

I dunno if the Sub mains have seen this yet but Raptor just put out a cool video about a corner reset for a true 50/50 setup.
Wow that's a great find. Love it!

Not asking for buffs.

I pretty much just play Sub-Zero and am always trying to find ways around his weaknesses. Hell, I used to play Unbreakable when he wasn't good with GM when he wasn't near Top tier. So I'm used to working around things.

He needs help though. The majority of the Sub community think just tiny little tweaks will help him be Mid Tier. He still loses most match ups.

Anyway, these are from the official Patch Notes:

Sub-Zero - Max base stat attributes changed to Health - 1150, Defense - 1450, Strength - 1600, Ability - 1650 (from Health - 1050, Defense - 1500, Strength - 1700, Ability - 1600

Strength may be a Damage Nerf so that is a considerable change. We need some one to test it out. Maybe the 1650 Ability from 1600 balances things out but Strength will affect his combo strings.
Help him be a mid-tier? Seriously? He is already a mid-tier at worst, and it's not a bad thing by any means. Also his health got increased in addition to his ability, while his strength and defense got nerfed, so it's a balanced changed. Nothing bad at all.

Has anyone figured out how these values like *actually* manifest themselves in the game? Like I get what values each stat corresponds to more broadly, but do they directly translate into particular damage multipliers/reducers or something?

I asked this question awhile ago on here and on the reddit and got answers of "We don't know" and "Stop thinking about things besides gear posts" respectively...

I think that it does imply to the competitive play, but only the base stats of each character. Any boost to their stats that come from Gear is only gonna imply to the non-competitive meta. So you can look at the stats, but only at their base format, which is very universal for pretty much the whole roster with a few small exceptions.

I actually made a comparison chart of all the stats, and there's a couple characters with weirdly badly skewed stats? Grodd and GL are the ones I remember offhand, but does this matter at all? Like I get that competitively the stats are what they are, but does this mean anything in terms of optimal playstyle or can it be mostly disregarded because frames and tech are more important?

Edit: Manta and Starfire are also kinda wack.
