This thread is a semi-serious-but-not-really curiousity of mine, specifically targeted not so much as a broad question about Hal, but an inquisition to the people who've played him devotedly since or around since day 1 of game 1.

I played a LOT of Green Lantern in part 1. Online, offline, Endless towers, practicing cheap ass setups and using my friends as practice fodder the couple of months I went without internet...I am familiar with Hal.
That being said...I'm still not sure how I feel about this Lantern compared to the old one.

Anyone else feeling the Lantern struggle?

I'm still holding out hope there's enough dirt between all his new stuff to make him better than he was.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuut I don't see it. Minigun alone and not having it as a checking tool changed his whole shtick.

I will say I like his BF1 now better than before, but not having the MB version to extend combos anymore/not having one of his other MB specials cover that base...that's lame.

The current version is a toned-down version of what he used to be.

And lantern doesn't struggle, are you Fred marvel?

I like his new tools now tbh but I still want Oa's Rockets. Added bonus is air Oa Rocket should go straight and Air BFD1 or Air DB1 would give you the downward Oa Rocket. He would be complete. Damage from Inj 1, Space Control from Inj 2.

IGAU GL is way better which is a testament to how bad he is in this game because he wasn't good in the first. Turbine mini gun and air rocket in this game would make him a contender and possibly even viable

my problem with gl is his moves just look ugly compared to I1 like the green blast was cool but now this man whips out a whole lantern to shoot out a tiny beam. i miss the fat ass minigun and missles

Searching for an alt.
The biggest issue I have is the throw. His throw in the first game was badass, his throw in the second game is badass. Can't pick between the two.

I wish he still had old air bf1 or turbine or minigun for his kit, but overcharged lantern is pretty great and I like it more than the missiles.

I'm glad that in inj2 everything isn't too fighter jet themed, but lantern blast is pretty lame. With the ability to conjure anything I can imagine I wouldn't only think of things from my last job or my new job. I mean, the man has been to several planets and has seen movies, where are the bombs, UFOs, and craziness?

I think they're probably pretty similar tier wise or whatever, but the old one was a lot cooler in terms of his moveset. The mini gun, rockets, lift actually being an anti air, using more constructs in his moves was a lot more stylish and cool.

Not having air rockets to contest true zoners make GL a very good yet easily counterpicked character.

Can anyone explain to me how to fight Deadshot or Fate? Those matchups feel so fucking hard.
 
I’ve honestly gotten to the point where I pick Bizzaro vs Fate. Might be GL’s worse match up imo. You can at least turtle Deadshot without taking massive amounts of chip.

Inj1 GL has some things, Inj2 GL has some things.

Honestly, neither one is really better than the other...matchups old GL would have issues in would not be as bad for new, and vice versa.

I totally forgot about the air rocket...

Anyway, I'm actually playing INJ2 now as much as I can and using GL. I was on Robin but I've grown to like Lantern a lot more.

He is super solid. But hard to use vs players who hold db and react to throws and f3
I get a lot of mileage out of half screen f2d1 mixed with f2 slight delay b13. The b1 if done properly comes out within a few frames of the d1 in f2d1 and they're both hot confirmable. I also do Wild shit like 2231, d1xxlift on occasion after I've conditioned people to counter poke my d1. I also do buckwild shit like b12 a few times to see whether they block it or if they'll start to block it and then I'll throw out b1xxboulder in trait maybe 2x in a ft3 like a savage to get the oki and give em something to think about.

And despite b1 being punishable I still stagger it quite a bit because everyone expects the string, and I catch a lot of backdashes like that and catch people stand blocking waiting on b12.

I know you're a really good player and probably know most of that or all of it, but just in case other people out there don't know there it is.

And despite people being up on delay wakeup, I still think GL can be pretty oppressive on oki. You can just give em so many different looks that's even if their defense is good you'll catch them half the time anyway.

My approach in general these days is bait shit in neutral, AA with d2, trip guard and whiff punish with b1 combos, play mind games on oki, abuse 2231 in neutral against characters with 7f d1s and mix in mb f3 and throws, mb b3 over aggressive players, and zone characters GL can actually zone.

I really love this character and it's the most fun I've had with a character.

I've decided to learn supergirl (who in a way has some similarities with GL) and Deadshot lately to combat GL's worst MUs. I just got fucking tired of fighting fates who can lock GL down.

Again, I know I quoted you but I'm talking to everyone and beginners or GL newbs who may need ideas.

As for air rockets, they're the only gear move I even equip for MV and GMV, they're just so useful.

Red Hood and Black Adam are two (so far) that I've had the most trouble with. BA can get it with one MB DB1 and Red Hood... well, gun shots from everywhere.

F2D1 is my favorite combo setup, but I find that I eff it up most of the time... I basically need to calm down when playing. I'm working on it though.

Old GL was better aesthetically and competitively
