Concerned about GL's bad match ups

You think Atrocitus is a bad MU for Lantern?
I personally don't at all. I think it's even or even winning for GL. B1 really hurts atrocitus imo. And, GL can out zone atrocitus for the most part and punish raw puddle full screen.

If atro corners GL it can get ugly assuming he has trait and meter because we just can't do a whole lot with wakeup wall, but assuming you can reasonably escape the corner now and then with a well timed push block and some good ole defense, I think we can do some damage.

It just doesn't feel nearly as hard as deadshot, fate, cyborg, or even batman.

Yeah I feel the same way.

I don't think Lantern has good zoning. Also GL has no backdash but he's very good at naturally chasing backdashes with his strings. He has good anti airs and Superman doesn't but Superman is a much safer character. I don't see the similarities.
I don't think his projectiles are meant to be for straight up zoning out many characters, but merely to have a ranged presence. A lot of his zoning stuff doesn't outright stop other zoners, but can check their options. It's kinda odd, but it has its purpose, I find, and it's a lot better than what he had for that kind of stuff in Inj1.

As for bad matchups, I think Deadshot, Fate, Supes, and possibly Starfire are definitely against his favor. After playing Atai this weekend, Blue Beetle can be pretty rough too. Who btw is a really fucking OD character that Idk why people haven't done some serious research on.

I was thinking about picking up Atrocitus or GA to cover myself. After this weekend with VS Fighting and Summer Jam there seems to be a strong presence for both characters. I don't know if they'd cover my bad MUs though or if I'm just looking at these characters because other people can do well with them.

I play a below average Atrocitus and a fairly high level GL. I can tell you Atrocitus covers a lot of GLs bad match ups even if you play him at a sub optimal level. He's simply an easier character to win with most of the time.

I do agree that GL does well against him though.

For what it is worth, and sorry I am late to this, I feel like you should first objectively ask yourself if you have explored 100% all of the character's tools. For 9/10 players I would guess the answer is no. For me, I can't in good consciousness fully pick up a secondary until I feel I have mastered my first, which I am still far from doing.

That was short explanation. He said GL walk speed let him effectively get close and check Deadshot with B1 for free. For sure GL wins upclose now since Deadshot staggers has been nerfed. He also said that Deadshot just have to hold everything GL does when GL manages to corner him. I watched him playing Fullauto at Hometown Heroes event and you can tell he definetly feel comfortable in that matchup.

I've been feeling for a long time that matchup charts for top players do not really apply to mere mortals like me. Deadshot is one of the hardest matchups for me

this is a good thread. some very productive talk so lets bring it back. GL most likely loses to Startfire and gets his ass handed to him by deadshot. but post patch batman doesnt feel as bad somehow and Adam might be not be bad since he doesnt 1 touch kill anymore

Fate seems really bad, yeah. It feels like Lantern loses bad to true zoners. The Deadshot MU is weird since you can kinda walk him down but Deadshot is in a really good position on all parts of the screen as once you get in on him he can mix/stagger you back to full screen.

Another thing that doesn't help GL in the Fate matchup is the problem that his knockdown offense is easily defensible with delayed getup. So unless GL is perfect with blowing up delayed getup, he will have to beat Fate in the neutral which is also hard since Fate has better buttons and superior zoning.

That's one of the things about GL that I have some issue with. There are a lot of gaps in his offense that can be backdashed or poked through and the damage we do get via traditional BnBs are kinda unrewarding unless we go for setups/oki stuff. Unless that's just a me issue?

No you just really have to make his mixups air tight because his throw, f3 mixup is tough to implement

I'm going to ECT in September,my first real tournament, and I was concerned about Lantern's bad match ups. I'm having difficulty removing myself from the match ups I personally struggle with vs. the ones that are actual bad match ups. What are the worst match ups for GL and what would be a good secondary to cover those bad MUs?
Superman is a good character to learn, simple and effective and also has good footsies, beast in the corner. I am happy to say that I've made the switch and am happy with it until my DLC main is released.

I don't know if I really agree that fate has better buttons or neutral from half screen or closer. B1 is pretty vicious and a well placed mb b3 is pretty useful.

But overall yeah, I think fate is tough.

GLs b1 poke is better than any one of Fates buttons but fate also has a mid that's just as fast with more range (f2) a b1 that's an extremely good preemptive button to throw out and his new b2 eats GLs b1 up due to its 11 active frames and disjointed hitbox. Doctor Fate also has a b3 with more range.

The only thing good for GL when it comes to midscreen buttons is that b1 can go under f2 to punish it into a full combo.

You can actually check Superman with your zoning if you play it right. Solid 5-5 imo. It's pretty even up close as well.

You guys ever use willpower wall to absorb every other fate blast from full screen? It's an option but giving Fate time to setup his zoning is never a good idea.
Definitely not a bad idea and this could lessen the chip damage over the course of the match. There's just so much going on when fate get's going that it's overwhelming as hell!!
