Pocket Character for Sub-Zero bad MU's?

Roy Arkon

I will leave my seal on you!
I already asked this question in another thread, but I will ask this again because I really wanna know this: Which character is the best pocket character for Sub-Zero bad MU's if you wanna pick Sub-Zero as your go to main? I know how to play Poison Ivy as she is my original main, and Green Arrow was my IJ1 main so I think I can go back to him. But any of these two is good?

I also got my eye on other characters:

- Scarecrow
- Starfire
- Green Lantern
- Doctor Fate

Is any of them good enough?

Thanks to everyone in advance :)

Those are all pretty good characters especially if you got a Green Arrow too. I'm just trying to figure out where sub zero fits in the match ups right now.

Starfire is great for any team. She has very layered zoning that can cause a great deal of doubt and hesitation from the opponent and she does really great damage alongside superb anti-airs. She's just all around solid and her up close game is very serviceable. She also has the added benefit of not being hard to pick up. Her accessibility and simplicity makes her an ideal choice for people looking to use her as a secondary. I think she's fun if you're big on space control characters.

I would main her if I didn't already have two characters I really like as compliments already.

Thanks for the answer. As far as I know Sub-Zero fits in these MU's:

- Flash
- Cheetah
- Blue Beetle
- Black Adam
- Poison Ivy
- Doctor Fate
- Robin
- Gorilla Grodd
- Joker
- Green Arrow

He's also a 5-5 in these MU's, again only as far as I personally know:

- Firestorm
- Bane
- Black Canary
- Cyborg
- Green Lantern
- Green Arrow

Everything else is probably his bad MU's. I could be wrong regarding some of these.

Thanks for the answer, I really do think she is the right choice for me. She is closer to Reptile then any IJ2 character with her versatile moveset that leans more into Zoning and both her Forceball-like and Reptilian Dash-like specials, and she is very simple to use. I think I will go with her. Thanks again dude :)

TYM's #1 L taker.
This may not work for you but I've been using Firestorm to cover match ups i struggle against with Sub and I've had some success. They seem to play well off each other's strength's and weaknesses (with Firestorm appearing to be the overall better character.)

Sub is a rushdown counterpick, but rushdown isn't as successful in this game. I would main a different character and second sub for rushdown. I don't think he's worth that though. The firestorm makes sense, but starfire is better. I wouldn't count on her damage staying where it is, so keep that in mind.

Ivy beats sub pretty badly.

Yeah Starfire is a better pocket character then Firestorm, especially for me in particular. I would still play Sub-Zero just because he is an MK character and you can make him look like Reptile. Unless NRS adds another character that I really love, either from MK or another franchise a guest character, I would still go for Sub-Zero as my go-to main and Starfire as my pocket main.

Just drop Subz entirely and pick up Supergirl.
When I pick a character i don't go just by the gameplan alone, but also by how much I like the character itself, and I don't love Supergirl as a character more then I like others such as Ivy or Batman.

Ivy beats sub pretty badly.
Can you explain why?

Respect for sticking it out. I'm not a huge dc fan so I don't have that problem in this game lol. I'll always main Lao in mk tho.

Can sub punish drill from a reasonable range? If he can then I don't see why it'd be a lopsided mu. Ivy has great advancing moves but that won't work on sub. Her vine can go through klone but she can be punished for that too. Sub just has to be aggressive which he can be with db1. I'm just thinking though idk for sure

I'm also not a huge a DC fan. I don't hate DC though, I do like it, but MK is one my all time favorite fighting game franchise. I even like Marvel more then DC, especially X-Men in particular. So it was a lot easier for to jump to Sub-Zero just because he's an MK character and you can make him look like Reptile, especially that Poison Ivy's gameplan didn't exactly fit my style.

Well it's kinda similar to how D'Vorah vs Sub played out in mkx. Ivy pretty much controls the match. She's consistently zoning him, even when the Klone is out. He can slide to go thru it but it's very risky if she's smart with it. The zoning is even more immense when trait is out. She doesn't really have to worry about Klone or ice ball, just the slide.

He has to win by keeping up the pressure on knockdown. Once he lets up, it's Ivy's turn. He also has to get her into the corner as well and it's hard to keep her there or get her there in this MU.

The reason why it's similar to D'Vorah is due to her whips not being affected by the Klone. All her whip attacks and her b3 completely disregard the Klone, making it almost useless. This also works in the corner
