Do Monitors Make That Big Of A Difference?

How is a flat screen HD smart tv by vizio with 240 Hz, are they comparable to a monitor
i dont know what that spicific tv is in response time or input delay but general rule of thumb is to stay away from tv's when it comes to gameing. even though there are some tv's close to 17ms input delay.(thats not close enough to my gaming standards) id go with a gaming monitor. get one off Display lag. it has all the ones id pick, just choose one below 10 LAG/inputdelay.

Speaking about TVs, @MadeOfMetal , what kind of TV do you suggest for gaming?
i never suggest tv's but if you had to pick one id say:
65" Samsung UN65JU7500
it has 17ms thats 1 frame of lag but has a slower response time than i would suggest, but thats as good as it gets with HDTV's they are build for color and sound, not performance on gaming.

Monitors lack sound and color to boost performance in gaming.

28" ASUS PB287Q Gaming Monitor has 11ms and its a 28"er. but id reccomend mine that i posted erlier. 27" ASUS VS278Q

yep thats why we get monitors when it comes to TV's you have to get the newest models and even then they have 1 frame of lag in just Input Delay alone, not to mention what Response time is.

thats why you would get what i did, its around 170-200 USD. and that fair price for a TV/Monitor at that levelk, its very good has built in speakers and look nice, not to mention perfect response time and No input delay, really there is some but wont effect your gameplay at all. its so low.

I put them in spoilers because its off topic and i didn't want a huge post cluttering this thread, now its just a small line in the thread because i put it in 2 spoilers.
the thing thats funny is im a Pharmaceutical Engineer and the most requested help PMs i get are Tech related even on other sites. I did go to School for Computer Science but after getting Bachelors i stopped there. When it came to Virus protection and Sysco router i got so bored it scared me out of the profession. I used to Fix TV's and Computers for a living a while back, but where im at now is Mark Twin National forest. i look at plants and Extract Entheogens and Chems from natural Organic bodies and make Pills that help certain desieses and disabilities. What my current focus surrounds is Pain Relief. strange thing though. The thing that i prescribe is not a fix most of the time its just a band-aid that keeps them painless. but half the time im not authorized to cure. there are plenty of methods to take care of certain problems that people have and its as simple as taking a root or herb. and joint pain gone for good. but Doctors are not allowed to cure unless you pay them and company 10's of thousands of dollars. its kinda sick.

I work at home for Biotech Pharmaceuticals and Organic Chemistry.

Its kind of funny, what got me in the profession was i had a car accedent and all the doctors took my money and gave me no help. they said take this pill, and luve with the pain, omonitored how much i should take and gave me pills that didnt even offer pain relief and knowingly still offered them. Half the pills you get are Schedule 1 pills that are aginst the law to posses, and whats funny is doctors give you pills that are Approved by the FDA for certain pourposes but not for the reason they give to you. and this is by all mean illegal. but they have the athority to break the law on a wealy basis, but citizens are imprisioned for putting something in there own body. somewhere down the line our government gained the wrigt to tell you what you can eat or drink. how you can help yourself and how much pain you should be in.

then i Got what i needed to HJandel all schedul 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 substances. i now can choose to put what i want in my own body and im 100% legal to do so, i can go as far as putting it in others bodies.

For Example if you said you where addicted to Pain Killers or Heroin i could Prescribe you N,N-Dimethyltryptamine. a powerful Psychotropic Compound. that is far More powerful than LSD and Psliocybin( Magic Mushrooms) and i could cure your addiction in less than 40 minutes for life.

but no doctor would ever do that for you, they would be scared of possible lawsuits towards the clinic and their career.

I have both a FDA and DEA licesnse and i can tes,use or produce anything i want, just like the government and many Chemist/Scientists can.

But the average citizen can not. anyways this is what brought me to my profession, the hypocrisy of our laws.

Now you feel me. And here's the anti-measurement. I tend to ask for results before I pay them. If the results are good and the pain is gone for good, then I pay, otherwise money, bye bye. And I wonder WHO created such sick rule like this. It's the opposite of Hippocrates (my own ancestor)' oath.

BTW, very interesting story you got there.

I never played MKX on my 50 inch LED tv till a month ago. It has a "game mode" that doesn't lag too match but it still noticeably lags more than my Asus computer monitor I bought in 2011 after my first Evo for MK9 where I got top 16.

MKX looks 10000x better on my tv than my monitor but getting rid of that lag is worth it.
yo i have playstation tv and 40 inch lg tv and benQ monitor isn't playstation tv good enough for mkx ?

you have to giev me the Model number of the TV/Monitor. The Brand name makes Zero difference in performance whatsoever. When it comes to Fighting games and Shooters, 2 things matter when it comes to TV's and Monitors when Gaming!

1. Response Time (Time it takes for Image on Screen to Cycle from Top Left to Bottom right. also Grey to Grey, or Grey to black.

2. Input Delay: the TV generates ( time that your inputs on controller take to get from PC/Console to your TV/Monitor display.

is this your Playstation TV?

get the model number, because that specs shows nothing you actually need to know:

btw there is two things that should show MS and they are very two different things, and the one that said 4MS was Response time, cuz no TV has 4ms in Input Delay, thats faster than the best Gaming Monitors so naturally its Response time which is good.

but we need to figure out the Input Delay or TV/Monitor LAg and im almost positive your LG has anywhere from 17-70ms LAg and if you Divide that by 16.67 you will get how many Frames of lag you will experience on MKXL alone from your tv without adding LAg from Online connection and or response time from Display, or Controller Response time, or console Response time.

A simple question for serious gamers out there.

Are monitors required for high level gaming?

I have always played on a TV set. I currently have a Panasonic TC-P42S1 and I recently saw a post about monitors.

Do all the high level players play on monitors and do they make that big of a difference?

I don't know what the input lag is on this particular model but it does have a game mode.

Would those extra lost frames be significant enough against those high level opponents?

I work often and when I am home and management to find time to play, I want to be as competitive as possible. So if monitors are more necessary to achieve this, it might be worth the investment.
when i played my first tournament match ever, the monitor lagged harder than online. so yes it can matter.

your: Sony PlayStation 3D Display: it has 33.34ms LAg

that equals 2 Frames of lag on your Sony Playstation TV. thats good, but not Professional grade, basically i wouldnt use it at evo, those two frames could effect Links, Cancels, and even Counterpokes, so when you go to a tournament and have been using this TV alot, you will notice the difference when you try to Frame Perfect RC

here is a test for you, try Kenshi Kenjitsu's B3 xx DB1, Standing 1, B32 xx BF3

and if you can not get this 10/10 times at least 5 times in a row. your having LAg. even though i will note with only 2 frames of lag on your TV you should still be able to do this, that link is a 5 frame link, and your TV will make it feel like a 3 frame link, and 3 frame links will be like 1 frame links (fucking impossible in practicality)

This is the one id reccomend:

You will Sacrifice Sound and Color and Resolution For Consistancy and Precision when playing fighting games, but here is My Favorite Monitor that i use as a 27" TV for my Alienware R2 Laptop and Xbox One Console. I have one for each:

ASUS - VS278Q-P and its about 170-205 USD. damncheap for its quality and its one of the only ones that had 2 built in 2W speakers.

has:
1MS Response time
10ms Input Delay and is Backed by DisplayLag.com and Backed by Esports as a Professional Gaming Monitor with Close to No LAg visable or Sensable. it doesn't even create 1 frame of Lag even at 60 - and has Full HD 1080p

27" monitor.

@lebanese boy

Ok to summerize, you do not have Bad or Cheap TV's and i reccomend keeping them, but as for using them for fighting games, you need to Get aGaming Monitor and Display LAg is a great Website to find the ones allreay tested, and you can notice on the Amazon site and Manufacture site of the ASUS VS278Q-P it olny shows the Response time I.E. 1ms. but Display lag shows all of it including how much lag the TV/Monitor will have withh all things effecting it. and that site is deticated to adding TV's and Monitors each week and Showing how good they are and they have a scale to go by:

shown here: http://www.displaylag.com/testing-method/

Excellent: 0-10ms, 10-41 (Great), 42-62 (Okay), 63ms+(Bad)

it was later changed to 0-20 and so on, because its hard to find them below 10. but i firmly believe 10 or below is the Standard for Professional gaming

thanks for the reply,
Here is the model number of my vizio HD 240Hz(refresh rate) M492i-B2

It has a game mode setting and wow what a difference, the picture is almost as good, but the input response is much, much faster, I almost got a little dizzy for the first few minutes playing in game mode, some strings became easier and some became harder to perform, could you tell me does this model number for vizio meet your standard for proper lag and input, I appreciate you time, Thanks the model is M492i-B2 a vizio hd tv with 240 hz refresh rate

no it does not:

No TV can have low input lag when using the motion interpolation feature. and even high end HDTV's can get around this. its plain and simple: HDTV's are built for Picture Quality and Glorious Sound. Keep your HDTV for Streaming Netflkix and Watching Bluerays as your home theater. but when it comes to Gaming especilly fighter always use Gaming Monitors. they are built for it.

and that version has lag. and its not up to Standards it is howver better than most TV"s but has more than a frame of Lag. and i wouldn't use it. but like isaid its a very good TV AND I WOULD KEEP IT. Just buy the ASUS Monitor i told you of earlier.

this one is the one i have two of: ASUS (click:r https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009HNEBLK/?tag=dislag-20 :llink)

Thanks, I am going to order the one you have, any suggestions for what type of speakers to buy to improve the sound, will this monitor also help with offline CPU game play, and do you know of any monitors with similar a specification that are significantly larger like 39-49 inch

@MadeOfMetal

Any thoughts on something like the BenQ RL2455HM? I only noticed it because a reviewer brought up "getting as close to a CRT monitor as possible" in his overview.

Is that significant when comparing to modern monitors like you've recommended? Or are they all pretty much equally lagless at this point?

I ask because I purposely played MK9 on a 36" CRT tv because as i understood, you couldnt beat that in terms of delay. I seem to remember having to adjust even to the Asus monitor everyone was using at the time (2011 model?).

the BenQ RL2455HM is a 60hz 1080p Monitor with 1ms response time and 10ms of Input Delay. virtually no lag that you can notice. id go with it, it seems legit.

but as to you request i see no problem with the BenQ you mentioned and DisplayLag rates it a top Monitor that could be used in Esports and is backed by them. so its professional grade. A++ monitor.

One last question what is your opinion of the asus curved hd monitor rog pg348q 5 ms or the acer curved hd predator z35 4ms or the benq xr3501 hd curved 4ms, do they meet your criteria
  • ROG pg348Q has 9ms input lag it passes.
  • acer curved hd predator z35 4ms HAS 9ms input lag and it also passes
  • benq xr3501 this one is a bit different and is above 10ms input delay, but it is in my opinion the best of both worlds. has at least 1 frame of input lag but has very good display color and sound. it passes if you don't mind one frame of input lag. max lag could be around 23ms
what i mean by best of both worlds is, normally you sacrifice Sound and Color to get Response time and Low Input Delay. but this one has pretty low Input Delay(Lag) and has good picture quality and sound. and looks kinda cool.

Me personally i would pick one of the top two because i am very very OCD when it come to frame perfect. but if you are not doing anything but playing at home with friends i think 1 frame of lag will not hurt you. and online will not be horrible. compared to my old tv with 70ms yes thats right like 7 frames of lag at minimum. thats what my Toshiba had, and that motherfucker cost over a grand. i use that one only for blue rays and thats it.
