FOREVER EL1TE’S Dualist Guide

Wassup guys, Elite here bringing you a dualist guide only. I seem to be one of the few people who mains dualist and I would like to show you his potential. I want to thank @AK L0rdoftheFLY for showing me some great dualist tech and the dualist community for sticking with him. First thing about dualist is that it’s not a shitter variation. Dualist just takes more strategizing and work than the other two. Once you put in that work it can compete with dragon fist. Some people think his light stance his bad, it’s not. Both his light/dark stance play a role to his success. Trying to play matches with just one stance is hard so not using the two diminishes your success. Think of Nightwing with his two stances.:DOGE (Injustice DLC Pack Confirmed) In this variation you gain space control and better tools to push your opponent in the corner and keep him there. Without further or do, let’s go over the character.

S1- 8 frame startup, +2 on block.

D2- Your basic Anti Air

D3, 12 Frame Startup (Might be wrong). +1 on block.

B4, Long Reaching sweep, really minus though. (-14?)

B2, Long Reaching Overhead, hard knockdown, -11 on block.

S3, combo filler, +2 on block.

U4, his anti air, anti cross over tool. That’s all.

Now for strings:

113, This string is his main combo launcher. The (3) of this string is an overhead. This string also has a frame gap between the (1) (3) part.

B12, B1 itself stuffs armor. However, b1 is really minus. This is why you use B12, because it’s minus 3 on block. Also to note, anything canceled from B12 on block has a frame gap.

F213, This is his golden string, F213 is one of his best damaging strings and has blockstun to the string. However F213 by itself is minus 8? So always cancel the F213 afterwards.

F44, This is also his golden string, F44 is a low starter for combos, has some good range but has problems on whiffing on opponent, so space it correctly.

112, Combo ender

F12, F1 is 6 frames. So this is his anti standing poke tool. However, on block the string has frame gaps so be careful using it. EDIT: After new patch, this string now has NO gaps and is -4 on block.

That covers just about all of his important strings/normals. Now we will look into his specials for light stance.

Light Stance:

BF1, Solar Flare- This is his fireball. It’s a high if I’m correct. Does good damage, but has horrible recovery frames. Enhanced version launches for a full combo and is +14 on block.

BF3, Low fireball, pretty useless. Negative on block and only +3 on hit.

DB3, Builds back your health, 0.03 or 0.30% every couple of frames or every frame. This move is buggy and also pretty useless compared to other healing moves from other characters. If I was NRS I would buff this move :DOGE:joker::REO:16Bit

(Air) BF1, Air fireball, has horrible recovery.

DD1, Stance switch from light to dark. Has a small cooldown to it.

Enhanced Fireball Combo

Dark Stance:

In his stance he gains orbs, all orbs act the same, low orb, standing orb, air orb, all the same. They all hit mid too. EDIT: Low orb now hits low. Still plus on block.

BF1/BF3/ (Air) BF1- Red orb, think of martian manhunter orbs except these don’t explode on contact. Has very good recovery, does good damage, is a combo launcher, plus on block (+6 to +20). The orbs will fly across the screen until you cancel them which is DB1. An enhanced orb just explodes faster and does more damage.

DB3- Damage buff to all of his moves. Has 3 charges to the move. Makes orbs explode faster. Damage buff goes away on hit.

All of his combos are pretty much the same as flame fist or dragon’s fire. But just in case,

Dualist Combos:

1,1,3xxRC~B1,2~F2,1,3xxFlying Kick | 25%
1,1,3~B3,4~D2 | 28%
1,1,3~B3,4~F2,1,3xxFlying Kick | 29%

1,1,3~B3,4xxBicycle Kick~D2 | 29%
1,1,3~B3,4xxBicycle Kick~F4xxFlying Kick | 30%
F4,4xxBicycle Kick | 18%

1,1,3~B3,4xxBicycle~F2,1,3xxOrb

Meterless Corner:
1,1,3~B3,4~F2,1,3xxBicycle~F4xxLowFB/Flying Kick | 34%

Here is a combo video utilizing his damage charge:

Mid screen Stance Switch combos:

112 dd1 f4 = 2 frame link

112 dd1 d2 = 5 frame link

b12 dd1 f4 = 1 frame link

b12 dd1 d2 = 4 frame link

b12 dd1 d1 = 2 frame link

Corner Combos that are not possible mid screen:

112 dd1 11 = 4 frame link

112 dd1 b1 = 3 frame link

112 dd1 3 = 1 frame link

112 dd1 f2 = 2 frame link

112 dd1 2 = 2 frame link

112 dd1 f1 = 6 frame link

b12 dd1 f1 = 5 frame link

Block Strings and Pressure:

With dualist any block string (Besides F213) canceled into orb is -10 to -20. I haven't tested it to get the exact frame. But they're all very minus. However, F213 into orb leaves you minus 9. Enhanced or not.

F213-SS is plus 6.

112-SS is neutral.

Any other string canceled into SS is either neutral or just a little bit negative but can’t be punished. EDIT: There is a few strings that if canceled into stance switch are punishable by 6-9 frame moves.

F213-SS,F213-DB2 does 7.3%Chip and builds ¾ of a bar. Here is a video explaining his pressure:

This video has some visual and audio problems due to the video formatting changing, because of YouTube not being able to upload the original one so I’m sorry in advance.

Here are also some vids of me applying pressure on real opponents:

Orb Setups:

In the corner, the purpose of his red orbs shine. They can lead to 40% combos, space control to keep them in the corner, and to save you from a punish. Here is an important orb video that pretty much covers everything in orbs:

The Concluding Moments:

I don’t want to run into matchups since I don’t know all of them so I’ll leave that out. If you need any help or have any questions I will gladly help you. If any information is wrong please let me know.

Also here is some matches of Dualist in action :

First of, good guide. @FOREVER EL1TE , You've done so much work and I get You spent hours of Your own time in order to obtain such level and the other guys as well. Its not brain dead muscle memory 50/50 allday long. I come from Skarlet kommunity and I am in love with Dualist. Tried JC along the way but i couldnt get the love. Had couple hours of of practice and some offline with Kotal Khan and Shinnok. He is a fucking mindblow. Finally someone worth the time. I am officially joining the crew! I will still have Kobu as secondary for time being :D

I also played skarlet, some of the guide is a bit outdated. So I have to fix it.

I am sinking deeper into Dualist...I wonder if he will receive any adjustments in not for future. I really dislike the projectiles. I saw once (somewhere on the forum) that there is a way to get a conversion from air projectile (just like Skarlet could) and that is something I was missing for very long time. However with the input and its proprietaries its very unpractical :-( that is truly a shame. Other then that there might be few tweaks he may need imo. But most of it was brought up to light. I hope he get fixed as he is the most interesting character in the game for me and many of You I believe.

I have never tried, I will next time I am playing, I am able to f1 into windmill punches with flame fist...... what are the advantages of f1 xx dd1?
F1 can punish -7 moves (think alien's tail flip) and dd1 will allow it to be converted into a full combo. I'd either have to do f12 ss rc 113 (which is pretty tight) or f1 ss 113 to convert it into a combo. The problem with f1 dd1 is that the window to do dd1 is pretty small but linking 113 afterwards is easy.
Btw, I use f1 for interrupting stagger pressure as well. Interrupting staggers with a full combo would be pretty nice.

Yes, thanks, I would have just cancelled into fbf4. I will try.I Think f12 will be easier to practice since it is a timing thing, both will come with muscle memory.
