Explanation of Option Selects in MKX by UltraDavid

I'm not buying the whole "It makes it easier to armor through gaps" thing. I was already able to do that, unless you meant specific characters with strings that can only be armored through by doing it this way, but an OS is never intentional. Regardless my interest in the game is pretty much killed, because while some may argue it doesn't benefit characters all that much, just look at Raiden and tell me that with a straight face.

This is pretty silly. Worse than the 50/50 argument IMO. I too wonder why normal buffers as well as interactable buffers if I'm not mistaken were taken out but special cancel option selects were left in. If it's one of those "klassic" NRS bugs, then so be it.

Ummmm I think there's a communication error here. Are you saying you're able to input a special while holding block the entire time?

The raiden b2 OS has NOTHING to do with this and that's not what I was referring to. The b2 OS needs to go and I wouldn't defend it. It's dumb and stupid.

I was referring to reversal specials.

Yeah I did misread. In that case, OSes would be okay to rock for that instance IMO. It would depend heavily what the character would get out of it. The problem with OSes is, you can't really balance a game around them. You can try to make up for them however.

When it comes to simply reversals to armor through shit, yeah I have no issue. But anything like Raiden's B2 and I imagine there's other chars who have that kinda tech, that needs to go.

You are correct. I was not referring to b2 option select . But that's dumb too and needs to go

i think he's talking about the fact that you can hold block and keep doing a special to never miss a gap/punish

am i wrong here? @dribirut

edit: literally a second after you posted.

and yes.... this is dumb too. I've yet to elarn a single frame gap because i just mash an armroed move during every string ever.

And no buffering specials to get reversals is not "legit" and intended. It's scrubby. If you want a reversal you should have to time it with precision

Exactly. It makes me feel like nrs is trying hard to make this game scrub friendly

How do you know that? I don't hold block when inputting reversal specials and they still reversal just fine between gaps. I think this hold block thing is still another glitch that got overlooked.....again.
You dont get it. The buffer keeps the block command in your input stream. Removing this option select would require you to basically ignore any inputs done with a block input in them. This means you would not be able to do your armored reversal which is inputed as Block + your special.

I'm curious how you do that. So you're holding block, then you let go of block to do your reversal ex special, hit block again when you do the ex special, then continue hoding it and it keeps you in block if there's no gap? Not trying to be sarcastic or anything.

@LionHeart Isn't this what I bait by J1 into nothing/stopping strings before the gap part?

WHAT is this thread about? Block/Reversal optionselects were taken out, for both normals and specials.

Mashing any kind of inputs while blocking no longer get you anything but block.

If you *let go* of block at the end of a tight blockstring, you get what's called a reversal. If this is not the case, I'd love to know otherwise.
This is wrong. You can still mash specials.

Also I just checked and it isnt a reversal the OP is referring to. A reversal requires it to be timed. All you do is while continuing to hold block mash a special then as soon as the special can come out it will. All they would have to do is remove it and make it so you had to press Block when trying to do an armored reversal(isnt that hard and is what I do anyway).

Yep, I was wrong, special mashing actually works. Wow.

I'm so confused can someone break down what OS is being discussed? I know its not the on hit/block OS that is making Raiden scary.

Mash any special while blocking a string without letting go of block. It comes out even though you're blocking.

Method

Full Combo Punishable
Inputting a special during block and busting out a reversal in one thing, inputting a special and mashing direction inputs to cancel if your opponent blocks is another.

This. Most players know the gaps in their own strings anyway.

Does the EX version come out? Either way that doesn't seem too bad to me. If it's the normal version then they will probably just get hit. If it's the EX version then you shouldn't be using strings with gaps in it like that.
