Help with building two customs Hitboxes

I am thinking of buying a fightstick though I am new to fighting games. Reason is I think they are awesome and my execution on the small controller is terrible considering my long nails :D
Which one should I buy? Hitbox, PDP or other and why?

If you get the PDP MK stick you'll what to upgrade the stick and buttons. The stock ones aren't very good. I believe there's a sticky on the topic.

Which is better stick or buttons like on hitbox
It mostly comes down to preference, but I have a feeling as more hitboxes get out there, more and more players will start using them. The thing is, it seems like it will be so much faster to hit buttons than move a stick. I can't do IAF with a stick yet, but I'm pretty sure if I got my hands on a hitbox it would be cake. But I'm at a computer all day for work so using my finger to quickly hit buttons is second nature to me.

It all comes down to preference in the end I'm sure though. Lots of high levle players use stick, lots of others use pads.

I personally stopped using a pad and went to stick because I kept fat fingering the dpad and buttons on the pad. Plus the triggers for blocking / xray sucked.

Although if I heard about the hitbox a week or so earlier, I'd probably have ordered one instead. At this point I may try to build my own though. :)

Okay, my boyfriend and I decided he could assemble two hitboxes! He has a friend who is a carpenter so he has to give him the design only. He works with SolidWorks so that won't be of much trouble. We will order Sanwa pushbuttons and PS3 chtulu PCB. What else do we need for this monsta' to work :)
Can an admin change the topic to 'custom hitbox' . I am using tapatalk and forgot pass ... Long story

HI there, I've actually built my own hitbox, so I may be able to help you with this.

The Sanwa OBSF-24's are what you need and the 30mm for your jump button. What you could do with is a 'daisy chain ground' wire, which you can attach to one button and then to the next etc, so that all your buttons are grounded.

You only need a small wire to wire up your buttons. I paid about £2.50 for a 10m reel I think. It is basically just a small reel of wire used for circuit boards, I went for a red wire, although you can use any colour.

You don't need any solder or switches. What you do need is 2.8mm wire crimps. Basically what you do is strip the end of the wire you want to use and then place it in the crimp. Then use a pair of pliers or equivalent to secure the wire into the crimp. When it is secure you can then just 'plug' the end onto the other terminal on your buttons (there are 2 terminals, one for ground, one for your other wire). It's very easy and you should have no problem.

When doing your buttons, I would concentrate on doing your Home, Start and select first. Once these are wired up, group those together and then secure them with a piece of coloured tape. For the top row of buttons again, once you wire all 4 up, group them together and put coloured tape around them. Then do the same for the bottom ones. Basically this just make everything tidy and if there is a problem with a certain button, you will be able to access it easily.

If you are just using it on PS3 and PC then yes go for the Cthulu. But if you want the SOCD cleaning, I believe you should go for the MC Cthulu (This is the one I have). I have the firmware from Toodles for this, so if you need the firmware, drop us a PM and I'll sort out sending it to you ;).

I recommend though getting a Nuutrik USB mount as Esku says. This will make it a lot easier for you because you only have to drill one hole to put the mount in. Also you can attach and remove the cable from the back so that it's easier to carry and you wont have to worry about damaging the wire!

If you need any help or you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask me!

PS, if you want to see my Hitbox™ please check out my profile as I have posted a picture on there ;)

Ok I have got all the components at last! Do I need firmware for MC -chtulu? I dont want to have problems with simultaneous back forward

Hitbox.

Fast execution, low muscle strain, extremely durable and portable design, and you'll wonder how you ever lived without a jump button.

Hi Natalka!!

Yes, you will need a firmware update. Toodles has some firmwire updates, but if you want to, I can send you the updater in an email?? Not sure if I have your email address already, but if you can, please PM me your mail and I'll mail you the firmware!!!

Hope your Hitboxes are coming along nicely!!!

Aren't the official hitboxes equiped with a normal Cthulhu's? They do the SOCD stuff as well, of course.

I like your hitbox, Kobra. I'll be getting mine today!

Speaking of SOCD, keep in mind that if your stickless stick isn't Hitbox brand branded it might not be accepted at some tournaments.

I'm not saying that isn't silly but just a fair warning.

The only thing I've found Shadow, is that if I tap the jump button, the game recognises the input, but the character doesn't jump. Have you experienced this before???

When I have gone to do the command for the instant air fan, I've done the command, but the game didn't even respond as it was that fast. Kitana didn't even move, so yes you can and will have stupidly fast button inputs, just make sure you do them slow enough for the game to recognise them! :D

Or has anyone got any tips for getting this thing out as I can get it out about 80%, but want it up into the 90's!!!! ;)

Jumps don't happen in one frame in MK9. Just don't tap it super-fast and you should be fine. I get the same problem doing fireballs too fast in general, hah.

Does Kitana's fan involve a down motion? If not you could just hold up, even.

Dark Kobra the hitboxes are coming veery nicely. Thanks to your help we assembled the first one! We tested it and it works. Tomorrow we will wire the other one :) I will upload shots as soon the artwork is ready which is on Friday :) my e-mail is [email protected]. Thank you for sending me the firmware

Cheers for clearing that up Shadow. Her fans are d,f+1 so the down is required. But I'll give it a shot, thanks!!

So I have the directional layout in a PSD. I'll be using this as reference for the MK attack button layout. http://www.joystickvault.com/showphoto.php?photo=453&cat=506&limit=recent

So, I'd like to get these together and then onto paper at scale, but I'm not quite sure how to go about this. And do I want on paper or something else? I have a friend i'll be giving this to as a template and he'll do the building of the box itself and drilling.

Wait what? Why is this? Do they not allow custom sticks either? Is it a condition to have HBA sponser?

As far as I know, as long as u use Cthulhu boards (MC or regular), you'll be fine. These boards handle the SOCD correctly. Cthulhu is what they use at hitboxarcade.

If you do you're own without Cthulhu, you get the SOCD problems. left+right=right(or left) and down+up=up+right. That's why they're not allowed, I guess.

This thing is awesome !!! I recommend it to everybody. I learnt how to do reptile's sfb>32>ffb>321~slide in less than 15 mins and before I was struggling to do 321~slide in the heat of battle :D
