"But Charybdis, didn't I just read an article rounding up all the latest Netherkast content a couple of days ago?"

Yes you did, loyal reader, but there's even more content, because dammit if the boys over there at the Netherkast aren't going above and beyond the call of duty in this time of tumbleweeds and hunger for MK11. Continue......

It may come as a surprise to you to learn that people still really like Mortal Kombat games. I mean it shouldn't, you're reading this on a Mortal Kombat fansite but it may do.

Sarcasm aside, the resurgence of Mortal Kombat in the last five years or so has been remarkable. While not reaching the heights of the mid 90s, where Mortal Kombat became one of the single most ubiquitous elements of popular culture, the Mortal Kombat franchise right now is more prominent than it has been at any other point since arguably the release of the first movie. The most recent release, MKX, was the single highest selling game of 2015, clocking up over 5 million in sales in its first six months That's more sales than any other console fighting game in history and, while it's impossible to really compare, I'd argue it stacks up well against even MK2's arcade-filling heyday. It also doesn't account for subsequent sales, MKXL and the pre-owned market. Continue......

Well well well. According to the @thehadou the Event Director of Combo Breaker, attendance for MK9 has actually grown from UFGTX to Combo Breaker (source: https://twitter.com/TheHadou/status/981003524157796352)

What makes this so amazing? Well, it means that the scene for a game which is coming up to it's seven year anniversary has actually gotten bigger. Process that for a second.

Enjoy this while you process it, except for getting gym-timidation from Shao's abs and lats.

Think of how long ago MK9 came out. When MK9 hit the shelves, there was no AAA fighting game, no Midway/NRS game had ever been featured at Evo or really been a feature of the competitive scene and the most recent Mortal Kombat games were Armageddon and DC (we do not speak of them).

Hell, when MK9 was released, Bin Laden was still alive. I'm not saying there's any correlation between those two...

It seems that MK11 fever is starting to take hold of the NRS scene. Want proof? Well, look no further than TYM's favourite podcast, the Netherkast!

This week alone, intrepid host Cyborg has put together three videos speculating on MK11: returning 3d era characters, possible villains for MK11 and, not least, the most wanted characters according to a fan poll conducted by the Netherkast itself!

Frost? Hotaru? Havik? Kobra (a guy can dream)? What 3d era characters are in with a shout of returning to center stage for MK11? Answers below! Continue......

The early Mortal Kombat games are among the most beloved in the entire canon of video games. From MK1 to MKT, Mortal Kombat could do no wrong and, although the star dipped for a good decade and a half before Mortal Kombat re-emerged as the premiere AAA fighting game franchise, the peak of the franchise ensured MK would always have a place in pop culture.

Its heyday was, however, undoubtedly, the late 90s. This period gave us a plethora of MK materials aside from the main games and all of them are worth revisiting. Even Annihilation gives good "so bad it's enjoyable" schtick and MK Conquest is fun in the incredibly cheesy, low budget, slightly exploitative late 90s action adventure show way.

That is, of course, except Mortal Kombat Special Forces. Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the absolute nadir of Mortal Kombat.

If you haven't experienced the grinding pain that is... Continue......

If there's one thing to know about the new Mortal Kombat games, it's that they have nothing to do with the old ones. While we see some familiar faces, the story-lines have split off into distinctly different paths ever since Raiden sent that message to himself on the verge of Shao Kahn's conquest in MK9. If you weren't quite sure on what has changed between the two timelines, then History Behind the Warrior has got you covered! Continue...

As it is right now, the NRS scene is in it's traditional biennial down time but the anticipation is slowly building for the next NRS project. If the pattern holds, it could be announced within a few months and, if the pattern holds, it could very well be Mortal Kombat 11.

Mortal Kombat 11 is gonna be important for many reasons. Notably, it'll tell us where NRS see their flagship franchise going story-wise and stylistically, whether NRS will continue with their unfortunately-now-signature trend of guest characters despite that well running extremely dry at this stage, what direction the story will take, whether the meta will change and, perhaps most importantly, the roster.

Arguably the most common criticism of MKX was its roster. From those who object to the presence of the next generation of Cassie, Jacqui, Takeda and Kung Jin, to those who object to the proliferation of Special Forces characters (Sonya, Jax and Cage), to those who object to the presence of characters with next... We're back with the next part of our retrospective series that looks at some of the best sets in MK9 history. Bouncing off our last piece, we are keeping with DJT and moving away from MLG 2012 and jumping ahead to the end of MK9's proper competitive season. After a strong 3 year run on the EVO main stage, things came to a close in 2013 with Crazy DJT playing VXG.EMP REO in the Grand Finals.

At this point in MK9's life, REO was putting in a crazy about of work dominating with Kabal, who went from being Broke-tier to arguably S-tier by the last patch. After being sent to losers by Wound Cowboy in pools, he fought his way through Forever King, the 2-time EVO champion Perfect Legend and DJT's brother, MIT.

On the other side of the bracket was DJT, who was on a hotstreak this EVO season between his MK9 wins and his second place win in... Continue...

For everybody saying "WHEN'S IPS SEASON 2???" on every NRS related stream, you might have some answers soon.
