In this first isntallment of the monthly VA series we had the best turnout and the hypest tournament to date!
Before I begin, there are some shoutouts -
@Wowbiggulps for driving 4.5 hours to compete and meet us as well as be an absolute surprise in the tournament
@GLV GeneralRoxus for running a gauntlet of FT5's to help him level up
Upon arriving there was some uncertainty about how many were actually going to compete, and soon after arrivals began we were only 2 numbers shy of ultra entrants. This is huge for us they normally beat us good. With a 14 man bracket set, seeds in place thanks to the brightest days weekly tournaments, we set The Blackest Nights in place.
The first round of matches were all comfortable wins for the seeds with just 1 falling in the store owner ray losing to Just Wong's deathstroke, first time playing the MU, WU's now respected! Second round saw some interesting events with mr aqua sending zatanna hype specialist awkward sloth into the losers bracket. Ice Angel and Zappa going 3-2, which seems to be a pattern, they always play close, i love the rivalry. And he man that traveled facing last weeks weekly winner in Dark Steel. Well facing a 7-3 MU BigGulps grounds the illusive hawk knows as Dark Steel, and squawks were momentarily silenced in a 3-0 fashion! Srryimwhte then plays just wong in the single most boring match in IGAU history DS vs DS. It's like a guile mirror with bullets, as mr redfield would say "EAT LEAD!" Semis happened next and mr aqua drops his first game against zappas NW but still wins comfortably with a 3-1 leap in winners finals, srryimwhte puts fear in it's place with a zoning battle between ds and sinestro going 3-0 in srry's favor. Hot off of losses blood was boiling, and we saw Dark Steel and Ice Angel tear through losers. A real tight one between awkawrd sloth and ice angel as sloth says its his greatest accomplishment to date to take games off an aquaman with zatanna! Dark Steel drops a game to Zappa's sinestro but still comes through 3-1. Then possibly the two hypest matches of the tournament happened. Lovers aligned as BigGulps found himself having to play the pair of lovers back to back. First up was the 3-7 against him in Ice Angel's Aquaman. If I an remembering correctly tiffany held a comfortable 2-0 lead and gulps clutches out win after win with health deficiencies in all 3 of the final games, sneaking out a 3-2 win. Next up the runback with Dark Steel. It started just like in winners with gulps taking the first 2 games convincingly. What happened next will cause some pants to fall. In a 7-3 MU dark steel SQUAWKS his way to some great mace charge corner pressure and meteor dodging never before seen. All of a sudden we found ourselves at 2-2. Match begins and after about 15 seconds Dark Steel found himself with a bar and a half health lead with absolute ruthless agression and corner game. Then.........Only a real master gulps pulls a miracle of a comeback with an absolute killer corner vortex into an otg interactable that is a MUST SEE!
There were people on the floor shaking and the entire store was screaming. With the blood still boiling gulps then faces srryimwhte in the runback in losers finals (i took winners finals forgot to write that before this 3-1, i hate that MU on atlantis) And in classy racism and pure fear gulps 3-0's srry to avenge his loss in winners to advance to play Mr Aquaman in GF. Grand finals begins and Mr Aquaman uses lack of experience to full effect and teleports his way around the deadly assasin in yellow. With a 3-0 win he secures his spot as champion of The Blackest Nights.
Congrats to Ice Angel, Ray, and Bushido Brown, They won my raffle here at the blackest nights. Angel and Ray winning a few superman comics from the 80's each as bushido taking home a giant injustice poster!
