RG Sonic Fox wins Injustice: Gods Among Us at Evolution 2014!

Blue Blurs for Life!
It has all come down to this. Against the odds, our favorite DC fighting game took to the world stage this afternoon for a second time in its lifespan, and man does the Top 8 reflect a very different showing compared to the previous year! Every player who came to this event, whether they reached the top or not, had something special to bring to the table, and it is fitting that it all come down to the momentous crowning of our new EVO 2014 champion! Let's get down to a review of the final results.

NOTE: Every set was conducted in the 2/3 format except for Winner's Finals, Loser's Finals, and Grand Finals, all of which were 3/5. In addition, the MK:X character reveal by NRS was delayed till after the Top 8 for Injustice reached completion, so if you're watching right now, don't close your broadcast yet! Watch at www.twitch.tv/srkevo1.

From Winner's Bracket, we would see RG Sonic Fox and GGA Pimpimjim kick off the world finals. Of the myriad of characters Pimpimjim is known to use, he opts to pit his Hawkgirl against Sonic's Batgirl. Despite the apparent match-up disadvantage Hawkgirl has from Batgirl, Pimpimjim gives a very strong showing, but is defeated 2-0 and sent to Loser's. With such a consistent showing in numerous Top 8s, Sonic looks set to take the whole tournament, but the prophecy is still set to be altered!

In the next match, one of the two Terry brothers (both brothers made Top 8, by the way! :) ), Denzell Terry, goes against AK Pig of the Hut to defend his Las Vegas territory from the outsiders. Sadly for him, his Doomsday and Aquaman both prove futile against the man who proudly calls himself Zod of the Hut. Pig takes it with a convincing 2-0 and caps off the set with a pop-off that gets the crowd roaring! This man came to play and he would not be deterred from his ultimate goal to win EVO!

Transitioning to Loser's Bracket, we see GGA's other Top 8 representative, GGA 16 Bit, going against EMPR Noobe. Both of these character specialists are among the favorites to take home the big win, but only one could stand victorious. In this case, Noobe's Doomsday proved to be too much for Bit's Catwoman, and Florida's hero is set to advance to the next round.

But what would follow would defy a prediction that was shared by a majority of the Injustice community. Emperor Theo, a player who established a staggering resume of major tournament wins through his combination of Superman and Aquaman, was defeated 2-0 by Malik Terry's Deathstroke and therefore eliminated from the tournament. Waves of shock - no pun intended - were sent crashing through the witnesses. This Top 8 just goes to show that we can draw no conclusions until the last player is standing!

With this upset still flashing through everyone's eyes, we proceed into the next round of Loser's Bracket with GGA Pimpimjim vs. EMPR Noobe, a clash of air combat versus ground combat. Noobe has been known to overcome plenty of uphill scenarios with his Doomsday, but this battle brought a whole new meaning to the word "uphill" in more ways than one. In the end, Pimpimjim flies out of the fog of war with a 2-1 win under his belt...his Nth belt, that is.

Then came another conflict that would shock us all: although the Terry Brothers had done well in defending their territory, they were now forced to meet in battle for the right to advance to Loser's Semifinals. Both went straight to their main characters and fought right down to the last second on the clock, which ran out while Malik's health bar was still ahead - and yet it was so close to being empty! The crowd could barely contain themselves even as Denzell switched over to Flash in an effort to improve his odds, but Malik wraps up the set 2-0 by capitalizing on an opportunity when he knocked his opponent into the exposed wires in the Batcave's Lagoon. Denzell had his time last year as the runner-up, and it seemed that today would be his brother's time to shine!

Malik had no time to rest, though, because GGA Pimpimjim was next to stand in his way to the top. In contrast to his previous matches, Pimpimjim trades in his Hawkgirl for Raven, and this decision pays off with a win over Malik's Deathstroke. Malik immediately recognizes the need to switch and goes to Batgirl, who proceeds to take Raven's life bar so quickly that a blink of your eyes would make you miss it. However, Pimpimjim is quick to recover himself and performs a series of counter moves to even the playing field at one life bar apiece, but one corner combo from Batgirl was all Malik needed to close out the game and tie the set at 1-1!

In a last-ditch effort to keep his dreams alive, Pimpimjim reaches back into his roster and makes a very interesting decision: Shazam. From the first half of the match, it was pretty unclear as to who would take control, but finally an unwise teleport puts Shazam right into the grasp of Batgirl's Bola, and Malik seizes the opportunity to end the set with a 2-1 victory in his favor. And so, GGA's finest retired from the world stage with respectable placings in EVO top 8.

At long last, the spotlight shone down upon Pig of the Hut and Sonic Fox as it came time for Winner's Finals to begin. Everyone took notice of Pig's limitless drive to do very well in the Injustice tournament scene and this match would basically be a test for that drive. Both he and Sonic traded outcome after outcome, game after game, one impressive read after another. The conflict started at Fortress of Solitude and would carry over to the Wayne Manor, where Pig ultimately emerged victorious with a 3-2 win and ANOTHER explosive celebration! Let this be a sign to everyone that dedication goes a long way in achieving what you desire.

But this was certainly not the end of Sonic Fox. He wanted that runback, but first he would need to conquer MIT 88 a.k.a. Malik Terry in Loser's Finals. Sonic's Batgirl manages to outsmart Deathstroke in a battle of technological wits, forcing Malik to retreat to Aquaman. This match-up basically served as a re-enactment of SonicFox vs. deg222 from CEO 2014, only the player behind Aquaman was Vegas's last remaining defender. Sadly for Malik, he failed to gain any kind of control in the second game, and his effort to run it back with Deathstroke did little to sway Sonic's dominance. The child prodigy takes it 3-0 and makes it to Grand Finals for his anticipated runback with AK Pig of the Hut!

Things were not looking good for Zod of the Hut at first. As opposed to the course of their first set, SonicFox had taken complete control. It wasn't until the third game that Pig managed to find openings in Sonic's tactics and begin the vicious tug of war over the EVO championship, but ultimately Sonic resets the bracket with a full three-game streak. The stakes were high, as was the pressure mounting between both of these warriors.

Whose dreams would be realized today, and whose would be crushed?! One last set would give us the answer.

Sonic's dominance held strong like a fortress of iron to amass a six-win streak! EVO 2014 was finally concluded! Your champion is RG Sonic Fox!

Congratulations, man! The community salutes you for this win you have earned through your blood, sweat, and tears! Props also go out to everyone who fought their hearts out to support their favorite game and represent their characters!

Congratulations to Fox and Pig.

Was Pig too nervous in the GF or something? it was like a different player from the previous macthes, till the last match when he finally came back to it, but it was kinda late.

My blades will find your heart
@SonicFox5000 People will try and say that Batgirl is broken or some other B.S. but that was all you. It takes a really great player to adapt and come back like that. Taking the grand finals 6-0 just showed how dominant you really are.

@AK Pig Of The Hut I know you probably wanted to win but you should be really proud of your performance. Your Zod was hype af and you almost brought it back at the end.
