MK2 Draft tournament

Happens with all online based games eventually. It all comes down to support for the game and how many people still play it. If only a handful of people are playing the game on a regular basis, it makes absolutely zero sense financially for the company to keep the server up and running. Like it or not, MKAK and classic MK in general is just not popular among the masses and thus you see the possible results.
MK9 not having enough interest to keep servers going really shows you how fickle gamers are.
It's always about the "latest and greatest".
NetherRealms (or whoever) could re-release shitty MK5 under the name of MK10 and everyone would be creaming themselves.

In any event, happy Mortal Tuesday!
TWENTY years ago already!
On Sept 13th 1994, MK2 was released to the home consoles.

Those versions sucked ass, but they were catridged Crack for kids like me.

4-4 vs @Kaz

Caldwell told me to shut up about the specifics of the matches.
So I'll just say GGS, and don't expect any bs Fan Swipes instead of Fan Raises if we meet in the Finals.

Looking forward to next time :D

@tehdrewsus I keep inviting you to play when I see you on... where you at?

Good games. You have that analog down really well ;-)

If I don't answer when I'm on PSN, it's probably because I have Netflix on or something

I'll try to play some games after work today. Any time after 5 PM today is good for me. I don't really like to play after 9 PM during the week. That's been my wind-down time lately. MK2 has a tendency to get me too 'fired-up' so I don't try to play it too late.

Thanks, yeah analogs became second nature after a while.
GGs in UMK3 too.
I'm working on them. I have a moral dilemma with them right now, since in the arcade you had 1 stick, not 2 and a D pad. It's like using a ps3 controller with mame and programming R1 to be up as well.
The projectile immunity with a CROUCHING jade was a dead giveaway :)

You shouldn't have a moral dilemma because crouching instant moves are possible at the arcade as well.
They can be done by holding down and doing the special move inputs while keeping in "down" position.
Caldwell had a video showing this a few years back.

@dubson I'll look for you Tuesday night.

Yeah… totally fair game. Can be done on arcade or stick no problems. Just an advanced technique many do not use. Granted, it is much more effective in MK1 and MK2 than UMK3, especially MK2. Not very effective in UMK3, so UMK3 specialists are often not used to using it or seeing it, maybe even not understanding its value. So more commonly, advanced MK2 players use this technique and are used to it. As well as seeing it, recognizing it, and using it effectively/optimally…

ie. Liu Kang vs. Scorpion

Liu Kang hangs out in the Crouched position, buffering forward - forward with the side of his thumb (using a Controller) but while also holding Down simultaneously. As soon as Scorpion fires off a Spear, Liu is anticipating and ready to hit LP or HP as soon as the Spear crosses his head, to release a More Timely fireball to punish Scorpion while he is still Recovering from the Spear.

Just for those who are not understanding what we are talking about...

i got tehdrewsus 8-0. will add dubson
Yeah, GG's. Not sure I even stole a round off of you.

Ugh. I was hoping these belt challenges and this little draft tournament would make me a better player. Unfortunately I don't think it's clicking the way UMK3 did. Are there any solid gameplay guides/strategies the way Ultimate MK has for UMK3?

You need to remember that you are playing against some of the best MK2 players out there. You can't just walk in and expect to dominate them with ease. Likewise, if you are learning to play for the first time it isn't a good idea to play with someone like Jason or mikecaldwell all the time. Playing with people at your level and then gradually working up to the upper echelon definitely helps.

I play a mix of talent on psn. I didn't realize I was the only scrub in this draft tourney lol

I never said I expected to dominate. I just thought by now I'd be more competitive.

I'm really surprised it hasn't clicked yet for you, because you are good at UMK3.
UMK3 is harder to learn in my opinion, lots more going on in it than MK2.

You can study the individual character match up guides on here to get tips.
@MKillBill and I wrote detailed explanations and strategies for every match in MK2.
If we made a book of it, I think it would blow away any MK2 Guide ever written!

This sounds awesome, I wish I was good at MK2 to join this.

Maybe I'll make something like this for MK9 or Injustice online..... hmmmm

I'll play Dubson, MKillBIll, or Ectonaut anytime after 5pm today. Just shoot me a message saying you're ready and I'll drop what I'm doing. I've sent a few messages out already, with exception to Bill. I would like to see us get this moving too. The fact that we scheduled 5 weeks of space is probably why it's taking so long in the first place.

8-0 vs @MKillBill
Closer than score appears. A couple came down to the wire, and he flawlessed my Kitana 1 round with Liu.

where has @dubson been? I see @Kaz (ectonaut) @tehdrewsus and @Dyzvhtynzal (Ththuvhul) on almost every night.
Should be able to get this thing done this week?
What he said. I'm not upset with the 8-0 thrashing, as I know I am making progress with my game as of late. Eventually I will crack the shell and break through.
