Okay so this will probably be my first Fallout game, never played the series prior to this, but just want to clarify one important thing: I can play the entire game start to finish in third person perspective correct? I just am not a big fan of FPS style gameplay.

I've read online that you can play both ways, but just wanna make sure before I make a purchase.
Just hit the touch pad and you're all set. It being in first-person isn't required at all.

Awesome, time to dive in next month <3.

MGSV and Bloodborne were kind of diappointments this year for me so I've been looking for a quality RPG/shooter game to fill that void so thanks, that was the holding back point.
Hopefully you will enjoy it.

Yeah, I play it exclusively in third person.

If you're playing melee(which I still think is the best way to play this game) it's almost necessary because you get to do badass finishers with the heavy attack.

Yeah like everyone said, this fallout does 3rd well enough for it to be viable. If you want to play FO3 ever though, fuggetaboutit, the 3rd sucks in those games

Been avoiding this thread because I don't want anything spoiled. Just want to say this game is amazing! I've put around 30 hours into it, and I've only done 1 main quest mission, lol. I love the fact that the sneaking system is like Skyrim. It's awesome sneaking up behind enemies and back stabbing them, so fun!

That is all.

#CannibalFashion.

Decided on a whim to upgrade bby-grl to something more debonair, though bag head and housewife dress was a definite classic look while it lasted.

Yeah, I totally dumped four point into pickpocket just so I could rob that lazy bitch for that sweet, sweet feathery corset-dress.

3rd person wasn't bad in New Vegas, I played it 3rd person pretty much the entire time every playthrough.
I can see why some people might like it, especially zoomed in almost all the way. I just felt it had a lot of short comings. The camera was wonky a great deal for me especially indoors and there was a lot of line of sight issues I experienced. Might be fun for a more run n gun character but I'm usually always stealth.

Except for when I stumbled upon this

At first I didn't understand it but after using it once, I immediately changed to a full melee build which I had never done in a FO game. Doesn't crit for much but with the right build, it crits 100% of the time. I ran around and terrorized the wastes with an explosive power fist that sent people flying into their comrades then exploding into a shower of gory delight subsequently making everyone else explode into a shower of gory delight within that radius. I used 3rd sometimes then, it was probably the most fun I've ever had in a FO game.

Oh man, I totally get what you mean. I feel like 3rd person was definitely better than 1st for melee because you're more aware of your surroundings, and you don't really have to rely on aiming, it also helps that it looks awesome to see your character just blow through everything. In New Vegas for me it was when I got the fully upgraded Katana that I realized just how broke melee was lol. If you take the right perks like Slayer that increase your attack speed, it's super easy to just obliterate any enemy, including Deathclaws/Cazadores. Especially if you focus your character purely around Melee/Criticals, it is so much fun. I really liked Unarmed as well, I always went with the Saturnite Super-Heated fist or Dr.Mobius'/Klein's glove.

Fuck man, just talking about New Vegas makes me get so many good memories from that game. I really wish they would release a remastered version that would get rid of the bugs/crashes that still plague the game to this day. Maybe if Bethesda had given Obsidian more than 18 goddamn months to develop the fucking game they would have been able to flesh out Caesar's Legion and include some of the cut-content that was still on the disc, as well as iron out all of the bugs/glitches. I still think it's hilarious how so many people shit on Obsidian for New Vegas having bugs but when FO4 is filled with them they're called a "feature" and something to laugh at/post gifs of. Double standards, I guess.

I modded the shit out of the game during that playthough. I didn't encounter too many super annoying bugs, but on PC if there are any game breaking ones, you can usually fix it with the console. It was still a great game, added so many awesome quality of life features FO3 was missing. I agree, I think if Obisidian was given more time, it could've been a much more flushed game. They could've made Vegas as awesome as Boston is in FO4 where it's an actual city in ruins rather than just 4 casinos with a wall around it and done more with the factions to make them deeper. People were bitchy "durr its just fallout 3.1 nothing new". Being a fan of the old games, there's something special about being out west, the struggles of civilization seemed more lifelike out west and New Vegas had all the pieces like Caesars Legion, NCR power-struggles, crazy scientists that lobotomize people, believable remnants of prewar life, intermingling of tribal cultures with the technology of the modern age to show how brutal the wasteland really was.

I just don't feel the magic with FO4. The premise of synths and the way they cause paranoia and conflict among the populace is cool but it's not why I fell in love with fallout.

I love the ambient music, it reminds me of the old fallouts but the aesthetic just isn't as bleak and hopeless as I wanted. At least right now, I'm about level 30ish, still have yet to see a lot.

So far it looks like the best general type of long ranged weapon is the Gauss Rifle. On Survivor I can take out a deathclaw in 2 shots from a range of over 200, and it can have a supressor. My current one does something like 360 damage, but it can be charged to increase damage, though I'm not sure by how much. It also has a relatively fast fire rate and large clip size, so I use it for up-close engagements as well.

It's all so very confusing.

I can't remember where I got mine. According to the guide, you get it from "a level 4 vendor", but also according to that shit stain of a guide, you can only get a level 4 vendor by enticing specific NPCs into your settlement and setting them up with a max-level shop. I definitely did not get my gun that way.

Gauss rifle is the best gun in the game(without taking mods into account).
