i believe if umk9 would exist, more players would still playing MK9.

I went to ECT and registered for both, even though I had not played MK for a few months. I did this because I know for a fact that the guys who put on the tournament and people like shock and Phil who have devoted personal time to keep the game alive deserve to see their hard work pay off.

MK is the fighting game I love, it's the game that opened my eyes to the tournament scene and it deserves this community's admiration, even with all its bugs and problems. I wish I was in a position to travel to tournaments because I would support both MK and injustice, I just need pig to show me the secret to getting my wife to be okay with it. =)

I wonder how many capcom players would still be playing vanilla SF4 if there was no SSF4 one year later? Followed by AE and the 2012 patch.

It's also not fair to compare to the so-called dark ages of fighters where the only show in town was just MvC2 and 3S. nowadays there is more competition for fighting games, and if a better product comes along why not invest the majority of your time into it?

It sucks when games die and the community stops showing up. But sometimes there is noting you can do. If the developers don't want to keep the game fresh and exciting and fix issues with the game, why should the players deal with a buggy game when new games don't have those issues?

I think there are bits of truth in what everyone is saying. I think a few things are true:

-Although we love MK, we all knew this time was coming

-The hardcore/diehard section of our community is one of the most dedicated, strong groups of people I've ever seen. But this wasn't the 70-100 people you were seeing show up to tournies; it was the 20-30 you are seeing now that the non-hardcore people have dropped off. So people have stopped pot monstering as expected.

-People begged and begged for patches, simple bug fixes, and a some more game balance because they were tired of input bugs, meter drain, getting hit for 90% resets, etc., but NRS' hands are tied due to factors beyond their control. Brave players of Jade, Baraka, and Sub-Zero valiantly leveled up, scraped for every bit of tech and went to tournaments to fight against the odds even though they knew they had a snowball's chance in hell of winning. I cannot blame these people for putting down their swords.

-A lot of people no longer have scenes, and new players are interested in Injustice.

I believe that MK will return in time; but everyone fought hard to extend the game beyond its natural lifetime with no updates, and we should probably appreciate the fact that our community fought hard for so long and produced so many great moments even after the game was supposedly dead.

If you travel to a tournament, another 5-10$ to enter is no excuse.

Being "out of practice" is no excuse.

m2dave is terrified of looking bad in a tournament and will make excuses so he doesn't get bodied publicly. With the posts he makes here, I can't imagine the tears that would flow in person.

I understand that MK and Injustice are apples and oranges, but it's considered the "newer" game from NRS. There are many new games out that just have more hype and many people that dedicated every hour to MK are doing that w/Injustice. It's very difficult to be high level at multiple games (before people say Daigo, Justin Wong, Chris G I'm aware, but they are rare gamers). Only reason I can think of.

I'm a Soul Calibur fan, and SC5 is one of the best of the series. You guys are LUCKY your game lasted as long as it did MK9 was awesome but it's hard to keep the same interest after 3 years

Some regions/local scenes are just not playing MK. A good amount of the entrants for any non-EVO tournament is from the local scenes or people within driving distance at least. UFGT got good numbers (I think last year we had 64, so 1 less lol) because a lot of people in the midwest still play to supplement the numbers from the people who traveled.

I would guess MK9 would have 150-200 for EVO this year, and if its still played in tournaments post-EVO, it will only show up in regions where it is still supported by a local scene.

I'm just annoyed because all the people who are saying "Fuck MK" and blah were the same people spending 100s of dollars to play the game and gave the game a mean blow job.

I don't get how hard it is to play two games at once. But whatever man. I'm still playing both and will continue to play both.

There's no reason for MK to have awful numbers at Evo.

Here in Arizona no one's playing MK anymore. Most of the scene stopped well before Injustice even came out and now that Injustice is out it's the only game any of us wants to play or focus on. But we're still all going to enter MK9 at Evo. It's a game we all loved and put a lot of time and energy into and would like to at least send it out on a moderately high note, and we're going to be at Evo for Injustice anyway so why not enter MK. I would hope that other MK9 players do the same. I can't be the only who thought MK9 at UFGT was hype, the game's still got some life left in it. At least enough for a good showing at Evo

How dare anyone try to harass people for not signing up for Mortal Kombat9?! If they don't want to play a game, who are you to say they are a bad person because of that? It's their $10-20, they can spend it as they see fit.

Going along the lines of, "support the game that got us here"; if you say this you better be fucking entering umk3 at every tournament as well. The only people I see doing that are reo, li joe, Chris g, shock, and ac1984. So if you're not one of them, you have no room to bash people for not entering mk9.

Top players stopped being top players to me when they started entering Injustice and not MK. Seriously you won't enter MK anymore because you play an additional game? Tell that to Rog or Wong or Chris G. The way this comunity has transitioned from MK to Inj has actually made me respect how capcom players still support their games when a new one comes along.

MK numbers are depressing and INJ only at 120 is shocking, too. If I lived in NV already, I'd take my ass to all of these and I fuckin suck at this game. It's not about winning or losing (as nice as winning is), it's about making this community thrive as a whole. MLG is considering about picking up Injustice but, fuck, why would they waste time putting together tourneys if only 100 people are showing up? CoD gets HUNDREDS of TEAMS...SC feels like you are in Hong Kong it's so crowded with Asians. We dictate our future, if competitive NRS games die then we know who's fault it is.

Yall can do whatever you want. I'm doing my part my participating in MK at CEO anyway; even with the fact that I havent touched it in months. Theres literally no reason to sign up for Injustice and not MK. If you cant shell out 10$ extra, you have no business doing this kind of stuff in the first place.

If I was actually going to either of these I'd enter both as I did for UFGT and VxG. It is a bit sad that Capcom players can support all 3 Capcom games (and various others) but we can't support 2. Soon as Injustice came out MK was an after thought and people don't even bother to sign up at tournaments that they're already going to.

Whoa, whoa. 120 Pre-reg 2 weeks out is a great number for an NRS game in the FGC. That's not total entrants, that's pre-reg. Our biggest MLG was capped at 96 by the MLG staff. That was the max number of people we were allowed to have, and we filled it.

I'm not sure were you got the idea that 100 entrants is a waste of time for MLG; but good gracious, crying doom and gloom with 120 pre-reg in a fighting game is silly.

This is disgusting. Im calling out all of you who signed up for INJ at ect, ufgt, ceo and ditn support the game that brought us all together. The game that was selected to be a main game at EVO but literally I wouldnt blame them now if they dropped it. Who cares if they drop it? Obviously not many people. CEO mk9 tourney is going to be almost a top player exhibition training session and not even a real tourney.

I wanna know why the faces of our game without naming names have completely stopped supporting it. Who cares if you get bodied? Support the game that brought us all together and try to keep it going?

What's funny to me is how EVERYONE was saying that Mortal Kombat and Injustice would be like AE and Marvel if TO's would continue to support. I did my best to get a good turnout for MK at GUTS 2 and 16 players was one of the highest local turnouts that we've had for the game, especially in Massachusetts. I don't know the reason why people stopped supporting MK, but it's pretty ridiculous that this is happening. Clearly it has something to do with the presence of Injustice. I mean, NEC and Winter Brawl had some crazy high numbers for MK. Then ECT rolls around a few months later and we have like 30 entries. It really sucks.

MKC and NRS are stupid, they think Injustice is a better MK, dropped it then say Injustice is not MK (?). Fuck that.

This is a disgrace. Spare me the bullshit about "fed up with having to deal with MK's nonsense for 2 years...bla bla bla." This is the game that brought all of you together and whether you want to admit it or not, you all enjoyed the hell out of playing it. Register, play, and get bodied, nobody gives a shit, as long as you support the game. If you don't want distractions from Injustice, great. Don't practice MK. Just put your egos aside and play. Hell, our reigning 2 time EVO champ wanted to pass on MK this year, then had a change of heart. Please, follow suit.

I love how people are now explicitly citing MK's issues as a reason as to why people aren't entering. Seriously? Why were you playing to begin with if they were such a problem. People act like Injustice is a perfect game.

The reason I don't like the comparison to AE is that AE is still being actively supported and gets updates every year.. They're about to update it again for 2013. They've re-released the actual game 2x, and Capcom holds major tournaments for it with huge prize giveaways.

It's not true to say that everyone said MK would be like AE, because honestly I've seen people complaining about MK9 issues since I've been playing the game, and a small core of us just decided to ignore the raft of issues and support the game anyway.

Everyone needs to calm down and realize that a lot of people have wanted to drop the game and we've been trying to force people to stay for over a year; let those people go. The people who still really love the game will continue to play it regardless.

I don't understand this either. We finally get a second game, and everyone bails? I can't make it to either ceo or evo, cause i just moved halfway across the country and funds are tight. But you bet your ass if i could i would be entering MK. I'd be entering mk over injustice if i had to choose. I've still got a lot to prove in MK and you're all taking that away from me by not competing. The next time i make it out I'm gonna hear "oh i haven't played in forever" and if i do well I'm gonna hear "yea that Kano was good, but no real competition was there". Nonsense. You absolutely can compare.

They exist longer: By what? 4-5 years? This literally means nothing. If some new company came out with a fighter that easily eclipsed every other fighter out there in number of entrants for 5 straight years would anyone talk about the "longevity" of the franchise/community? Who cares about how long a community has been around, what matters is the here and now. Here and now we can't support 2 games and it's ridiculous.

Have more players: Yes they do, who cares? If 60 MK community players sign up for Injustice and MK is getting 12 then that's a problem, regardless of how many more players another community has.

More competition: I don't know what this means. More top players? More "on the bubble" players? If a community is considerably larger then of course it will have more competition.

Better Games: Overall? I would say so, they've released almost double the number of fighters that NRS/Midway has, you're gonna get a lot of gems out of that. But they also have a large numbers of stinkers and/or several releases of the same fighter to get it "right". But that's besides my point, better games don't mean dick in the FGC. KoFXIII is arguably the best fighting game out right now, it usually has close to, or THE lowest entrants of mainstream fighters. Vanilla SFxT was seen as an awful game by many and yet it eclipsed KoFXIII numerous times. TTT2 is seen as one of the best fighters out right now and yet it barely beats MK9 in the number of entrants at times.

you guys act like every street fighter player also plays marvel, and every marvel player also plays street fighter. That's only true for certain top players. And they do it cause they win.

I'm not saying youre wrong about it being shitty that the game being played at evo has lost almost all it's support because were lazy,. but I think you should compare the lack of support to people not supporting an "outdated" game instead of comparing it to two entirely different games.
