Getting destroyed by Deathstroke in the corner : Feedback requested

Neptune's Beard!!!
Looks like he's opening you up with the low. I would say just block low but also, that move is safe. His DS looks a bit scrubby so he'll probably follow up with swordflip or JumpIn3 so watch out for that.

DS has a lot of crazy corner shenanigans but doesn't look like this guy is aware of them so do that and you should be fine.

Key to beating Deathstroke is patience.

Alright, first things first: Block on wakeup. You keep getting hit with j2 which is simply avoided, you can take it into the lab and work out how to AA with d2 or doomsday's air grab

Don't pushblock sword flip ever, it's like -50 on block. you have all the time in the world to punish

jump over j3 is crossing you up every time, just block the other way

NEVER SUPER WITH DOOMSDAY

Also- don't be afraid to walk forward, you don't need to use shoulder charge to advance necessarily

This looked like a match against an afk person, and there's no reason to pick up doomsday to deal with deathstroke. You clearly just need to work on fundamentals first and foremost.

Bait sword flip and punish accordingly. The easiest way to punish consistently is d1 earth shake. In the corner DS has a 50/50 but you have pretty good wakeups in upward and regular venom. Also he didn't seem to be using f3 (which is a great tool) so just block unless you see the jump. His combos are really sub par so there's no need to worry if you get hit once or twice. His straight machine gun is minus a billion and you get a free dash in, just make sure to block high for the meter burn. When you're in don't fall for crossup j3. If he keeps doing it over and over, punish with backdash, air grab or d2. Save your meter for MB Venom and make him guess the follow up. Grab or d1 earth shake should probably work the best as he doesn't seem like a player smart enough to backdash it.

I don't have any footage of my scrubby pocket DD but this player tried to get away with just guns and spins, just to give you an idea of how to handle it.

99% of Deathstroke players who only do guns and swordflip I come across pose no challenge, as I can either get in relatively easy and then block and punish all day. I have a lot more trouble with the player in particular I was playing, as he actually uses mixups effectively (on me at least) and knows enough combos to be a nuisance.
Well you get a free dash in from every blocked guns that isn't the high (which yo ucan dash iirc but harder online). And I have never seen him use f3 just the low and j3, so there's no dangerous mixup there.

Specifically in the first 10 seconds of the video, what could I have done differently? I try to block high (or low if I thought it was a low attack), but just keep getting attacked. I lost almost all my first life bar in that first 10 seconds, and couldn't figure out how to escape. Being able to break out of this corner nonsense is my primary concern.
You got hit twice in the corner from nj2 for no reason. You could've just blocked or air grabbed/up venom or regular venom to get out. When he is standing still just walk forward and react to guns. Machine gun is minus a billion so no reason not to dash after a blocked one. You punished sword flip with 2 which is weak. You get hit by crossover jump 3's for no reason, just block the other way. You don't MB your shoulders. Do it and stay plus. Didn't see you use a single Earth Shake which is DD's best tool.

In the corner he did the j2 (overhead) into a low. Relatively difficult to block if your not use to it. I would assume doomsday should have some options on wakeup vs neutral j2 so you may need to look into that.

Also, judging how you were playing in neutral he must have conditioned you to not want to advance forward (I assume from his zoning in previous matches), since you were very hesitant to dash or walk and did venom(shoulder barge) which didn't connect.

Doomsday's biggest strength is his pressure in the corner, so you need to know when to advance forward and put your opponent in the corner.

Against gunshots, if you block it should give you a free dash forward. Also, once your within range venom(shoulder barge) should be a punish if you block it (ex venom will push him to the corner allowing you to pressure him which is better). He may try to mix it up with ex low gunshots or ex machine gun so it's important to block these.

Sword flip is unsafe (and not an overhead), and I would assume doomsday has some options to punish it effectively (d1 earth shake, venom, string into venom?)

Best suggestion is to go into training mode and practice to effectively punish these options. Set deathstroke to wake up sword flip and see how effectively you can punish (with the highest and most consistent damage you can get). You can also set a dummy to keep shooting machine gun/ low shots /high shots over one minute to get a good feel of the neutral and know when to dash. Even better woluld be to replicate the zoning situations you where in and see your options against it.

I also feel you could have utilized ex venom more. Regular venom is punishable (didn't appear your opponent knew this from the footage) while ex venom is plus and can lead to more pressure options (d1 earthshake, grab, another ex venom, etc...).

Overall, I feel from the clip you looked uncomfortable in neutral against deathstroke. I think you just need to feel more comfortable knowing when to dash/walk against his zoning, pressure your opponent into the corner with ex venom, as well as working on your punishes. The clilp is short, so I can't get as much information from his playstyle since it appeared he was sandbagging at the end. Keep practicing though, losing stinks but you're taking the steps to get better and that's what matters. :)

If you're playing doomsday then you shouldn't give a fuck your opponent is doing you will get in and they have to respect your stupid stuff

I'm trying to master Doomsday to deal with a rather prolific Deathstroke player. Normally, this fellow only uses Deathstrokes guns from fullscreen, and swordflip on wakeup to knock you back. Being relatively new to fighting games, it took me forever to learn how to get in on him. Largely because I wanted to be able to do so with my mains, Lex or Sinestro.

Resignedly, I switched to Doomsday and have managed to get in on him most of the time now. Where I get destroyed these days is in the corner, and with interactibles. I'm not sure what he is doing in the corner (start of the video), but it gets me every time, and it's normally followed by a transition that gives him way too much of a life lead.

So, I'd really appreciate some analysis of what I'm doing wrong at the video and strategies to get out of the corner. Just to note, he usually spams guns almost constantly, but seemed to be holding back a lot this time....as was I because I kept expecting guns. I know I missed a bunch of earth shakers, grabs, didn't use my special/meter effectively etc.., and probably could have had him if I had. That stuff, I know I need to improve and I am working on it, but for now I just need some advice on getting out of the corner.

Here is the video. Also at the end, there is proof that I am the absolute best at accidentally triggering a clash at the worst possible time.
you know sinestro can outzone deathstroke ??? if you have the lifelead he has to get to atleast midscreen so he can duck your fireballs because you do 7% and he does 6 you basically trade projectiles and win, or predict him on occasion with a risky shackles boulder him and charge trait. Wait for him to low gun /mb low gun and respond with a fireball/mb fireball, or force trades. or trait charge and quick shackle to bait out his guns and then mb boulder him and charge trait. Once you build out your trait you can press trait while blocking to outzone him, or cover the gaps in your zoning and interrupt him.

BatmanBeatsCap, let me ask you a question.

how come you always try to troll people into choosing a character they have no idea how to play? You know exactly what you do:
1. Wait til there is 10 seconds left to choose character and go to map selection.
2.With 2 seconds left, you exit the map selection screen, while opponent is in the middle of scrolling to choose a map, back to character selection screen, causing your opponent to unknowingly scroll into another character with a second left to choose, so they are stuck with a character they probably don't play with ever.

Then you proceed to apologize for your childish to behavior and nasty messages once I told you I lurk here. BUT PULL THE EXACT SAME STUNT YESTERDAY WHEN I PLAYED YOU UNDER A DIFFERENT PSN NAME? Grow up

Watched one match (The one where you quit during the clash) you started the match with s3, why would you ever start with that? If you wanna start with an attack d1 is your best bet. You tried to grab as a punish for sword flip if you are slow on punishing just d1 earth shaker/venom/mb venom that's always a good thing to default to. If he does that constant cross up 3 while you're in trait pretty sure you can easily air grab. You didn't capitalize on any opportunity he gave you, that wake up sword flip when you had him in the corner was the most obvious thing in the world. And lastly you did a random super, never do that man come on.

bdizzle2700

gotta stay sharp!
After sword flip should always be 123 venom. If you not sure d1 earth shake. Mid screen if he does a gun, dash d1. Or mb venom. Block low. React to over head. Hes not good enough to do anything else

Thank you for the input!

I'm still far from being a capable player. I started about a year ago with essentially button mashing, then using cheap moves...it was a progression to learn how to do wakeups, combos, meterburn versions of moves etc. I'm still learning and trying to shake bad habits. I know consciously not to use super and that doomsday keeps meter, but it is still instinctive/reactive sometimes when I see an opening.

I didn't know that I could air snatch out of crossup, I have to practice that. Honestly I get really screwed up in crossups and can't ever figure out which way to face/block/attack. I'm not sure how to get better at that, as I've already had plenty of practice. I played SonicFox once as Batgirl (When he was meant to play iiincorruptible) and was playing keepaway, and he just got bored and did crossups continually to take the rest of my life :/.

I'm trying to incorporate more d1 and ES, I just have to train so those moves become more instinctive. What is best to punish after swordflip? I've had problems with timing as he normally hits me out after swordflip of whatever I am trying to do, normally venom or 123.

When he just spams low or quick shots, how do I get in as he can shoot faster than I can dash?
But you don't see an opening he blocked it every time. Mb venom is better than super 100% of the time. Looks more like desperation/frustration than you seeing an opening. Like I said just d1 earth shaker/venom, are there better punishes? Sure but that will get the job done. You can definitely dash between gunshots, and it isnt hard online unless you or the other player have a shit connection.

Anyway watched the rest and you are walking back when he is zoning you..... Again why? I think you were trying to go for the re spawning drone or something but that will not win you the match you're just doing what he wants you to do crouchblock react to the mb machine gun and dash in between shots you're not gonna win a zoning war just waiting for drones that anybody with half a brain will shoot you out of. Finally yes I almost never saw you do d1 that is Doomsdays best normal use it and abuse it.

And dashing in between gunshots is necessary it didnt look laggy at all so theres that dont sweep as much but with dd sweep is actually decent d1 earthshaker d1 is square d2 is triangle 3 is x
