What's new

the best time to find a local scene is now

it is not a secret that most of the mk community don't have an offline scene "locally". if you are part of this group who wish to have a local scene to play offline april 13 from 10:00pm to 1:00 am at gamestop will be the best chance you will ever have to meet players and start a local scene.

the most importante part and the most difficult part of starting a scene is to find players who are interested in playing the game. but in april 13 you will find a lot of people who like mk and want to play the game at gamestop. and some time all that it takes is a few words with this people to get them interested because they will be hype about playing the game.

1) start talking to people there and ask questions to find out what kind of gamers they are

2) this is not the time to feel special. what i mean is that you should try to do not feel like everybody there don't know shit about how to play fightibg games. remember it is a new game and you and them can level up together or in other words they can learn how to play a fighting game with you.

3) dont just go and ask people " so do you want to meet at my place or your place and play some time" because they may say " yea sure man" but what they really are thinking is "this guy is weird" lol... remember they are not competitive players who are use to a guy that they just met asking them to meet again to play. what you need to do is make it interesting talk to them about tournaments, playing for money or a competition between you guys locally in a few weaks or days to find out who is better in the game any thing. the gold is to get them to want to meet with you again. and if you are willing tell them you are hosting a free tournament in which the winner will win money how much? what ever you can put out of your own packet

4) try to find a way to keep in contact with them. email , number, whatever

lets use this thread to talk about ideas to take advantage of the midnight release date to start creating a local scene

Thats why they call this thing bloodsport, kid.
Good ideas. Id love it if someone came up to me and asked if I wanted to be on an email list for possible get togethers. No commitment, minimal personal contact and an easy way to opt in or out if you choose. Thats all it would take really.

Here in san diego youd think it would be easier to find a community.

Are you not the Riu who plays with cdjr and such? I think your bases are covered, but this is a good idea for someone wanting to play with people offline. Luckily for me, I've been talking to a few people who are definitely interested. Knoxville is going to be nice.

whats up riu i played you in injustice the one time you went to the break. will you be coming to the break for mkx? i would love to play you! im trying to find out about sessions in ny, already have talked to jr about it a little bit. hope to get some games in when mkx comes out!

Idk if I would ever do a local thing. I am way to shy to ever ask anyone to hang out and play. If someone came up to me and understood that I am not that great at gaming, but that I do want to "level up" then I think it would be cool. Why not? Lol

This is a great idea! I'll take it to heart and try and create a local scene or join one in Charleston. Glad you thought of this. I might even brand design a logo or something. lol!

Good idea. You should also tell them to check out Test Your Might . com on their own time to see that you're not being crazy.
I'm gunna do that. Anything that can build the community on here should help the NRS community alot. I'll bet I can get at least ten people to join. I've got a great smile!

Cool thread. Indeed.

I'm going to mine :) they're going to host it in the local applebees since mine is in a mall which is good. Last time it was held at a GS out in the sticks practically in NJ, tip of SI NYC and 12 people showed...they're starting mine at 9 pm however. There was a few MK 9 tourneys here at a place called gamechamp, and had 1st, 2nd and 3rd money prizes I posted about it but nobody seemed to care but had a decent amount think around 35 something like that. I won it with Ermac, was a fun time double elimination and 10 dollar entry fee. Won 250 bucks, so hey not too shabby lol they gave me the choice of iphone or money I took the cash lol. Second was 100 bucks and third was 50 bucks or 50 dollars credit(they had a choice) third place. But the GS one as I said had a bad turnout, it was a rainy night too so that didn't help I'm sure.

This time I expect about 40-50 mininum if not more. I spoke to the manager of the GS and he said they did a few there already around the corner from their GS in the local mall and already had great turnouts for battefield, COD, SF etc some recent events they held. I'll try my best to find out who's there for fun and who's there for more competitive, serious reasons. Another thing I did find out months ago when asked out of curiousity is my local comic shop IS willing to host tourneys I just need support of course, I mean afterall they don't want their time wasted and I don't want to waste mine either. Of course there's the issue too of set hours, equipment, money, etc. I remember Storms mentioning that he'd help out but I want to make sure these guys are for real first. They have held past MVC events and they hold a ton of comic writer events during the summer every wednesday. They'll even let you sell your art, books etc there for a fee of course for the day and was rated # 1 in all Staten Island and among top comic shops in NYC in general.

For years people have had events in L.I., Philly but never or hardly NYC is literally in between so why not?. Maybe here and there you see something? I do plan on checking out Next level events(assuming they have more than just like 2 or 3 like MK9) for a while there they had every week for Injustice. S.I. is right next to it. I don't mind trying to start a local scene here, afterall I don't really want to travel all over the country for few reasons but I DO want to support the scene more instead of just getting known or playing people from online. Aside from being arguably the biggest, nuttiest MK fan for those who met me you'd see why. So that's not an issue lol.

So if anyone here is interested in helping me out or you want to spread word, create a scene here and love MK and live in the SI, Brooklyn or even NJ(which depending on where you live in NJ isn't far from Staten Island) please let me know.

@TotteryManx yea i am... the idea is not so much for myself... but i can find someone who is less than 30 minutes to my house why not go for it.

@AVN PTH jonnitti from what i been hearing the break was a place where some the best players in injustice went to compete. this fact makes the break very high in my list of places where i am planning to go to play

I wish there was a way we could add our city to our profile and that link to a map. Just for the people that do not always check the forums.

Kind of like when you use google maps to look up places.

There was a feature like that before.. It was a player map so you kould find players in your area...

@STORMS If you ever can, you should re-implement that again.. It was really useful.

Well, it was neat at first but got quickly out-dated. I would rather wait for something more advanced. Basically, if we still had it activated think about how out of date it would be.

What do you mean by out-dated? Like because people move? Or do you mean technologically?

Technologically, I do not remember its limitations..

both actually. All I remember is towards the end of using it the map shrunk because the code was out-dated while other upgrades were done.

I've thought about this for a while, but is there a way to show people's gamertag/PSN and city they are from on their posting profile like was done with the variation banners?

It would be pretty cool and beneficial to see online tags whenever someone post as well as where they are from which can lead to connections.

You can't be that stupid.

You literally lived half an hour away from the largest, most active MK9 scene, and 40 mins away from one of the best Injustice scenes.

You didn't go on purpose for the past 4 years and now you're pretending it doesn't exist?

But Cossner is in America. >_>
Maybe now he's residing but he's said numerous times he's from Mexico, and I follow who goes to the local gigs like BK Next Level and even VSM and he hardly if ever goes so why does he care again what I do?

I can tell when someone is clearly trolling me. I'm looking forward to talking to people about it, the topic says local. That is local. I don't consider an hour+ "local" Next Level is literally a 25 minutes to half hour from where I live, not VS.

VSM doesn't even exist anymore. Next level hasn't had Injustice in months. You OBVIOUSLY don't follow anything.

What was that thing he posted that he then deleted? I couldn't see it :(

Just to let you know RM Cossner: You are now blocked/ignored by me so don't really care what else you have to say since it's usually negative regarding me. I don't know what your issue is with me but I don't really care nor where you're from. You want to play me bad enough? You know where to find me.
