Let's Just Discuss This...Roster Thing Civilly

I'm just curious as to if or when they're going to confirm that the select screen is final. They've gone gold, and are actively working on DLC. Which means it's all set to go, minus any last minute day one patch stuff. But if they're working on DLC then the initial roster is set in stone at this point.

Yet to be officially confirmed:
Jax
Kenshi
Shinnok
Liu Kang
Erron Black

Am I missing one?

Kenshi and Jax are what I would call unofficially confirmed, so really we're only waiting on Liu, Shinnok, and Erron. And we might not get a confirm on any of them that might be 'secret'.

But the more they do confirm, the more certain we can be of who will be unlockable. Can't wait to see how it goes from here. I still have a suspicion that Goro might be a secret character in game, and that the preorder bonus is 'play on day one', meaning you don't have to unlock him like normal to get him. So what you're downloading is a free unlock basically.

Why is Kenshi unofficially confirmed? They released that he will have a skin in the kombat pack when you pre-order?

Well, there wasn't a random slot neither in MK9 nor in IGAU, so I think 2 dlc slots is more likely. Anyway I think there would be 24 chars including the secret guy as the leaked list confirmed it. Now about the secret guy I think he will be Liu Kang, I bet he is the final boss while Shinnok the sub boss.
I hope not, they've already done the evil god liu Kang thing before.

I'm indifferent about the roster personally. kitana is in so as long as it still feels like her that's good. it was the same for mk9, wasn't thrilled the robots were in but they were pretty well done as was most of the cast. hopefully the new characters feel like Mk and not the crap in Armageddon. also ok with Shinnok but I hope no one else from mk4 on makes it. those characters were trash.

Fujin and Reiko weren't trash. Just because you didn't like them doesn't mean they were. They both actually have a pretty good fan base. But to each his own.

No they were trash. mk4 is where Mk really started to go downhill, and it continued pretty much until the mk9 reboot.

He has been shown, with a variation, in the MKX mobile game. That's an unofficial confirmation in my book. Though they DID state in an interview that their could be mobile exclusive characters, I'd really doubt that they'd have two different in-game models for him if he wasn't playable too. (from the Cage Family Trailer)

Kenshi and Shinnok are both confirmed. The Kombat Pass says that they have skins. The only ones left are Jax, Erron Black, and Liu Kang if we go by the "leak".

Not really, but if you want to be a dick about it, cool.

Fujin and Reiko both are really cool characters, if you dislike them, fine. MK 4 still has a lot of nostalgic factor for people even if the game did suck, which I completely agree with. What's fucking hilarious is that you only want Shinnok but in MK 4 he literally had everyones moves and was a complete cop out for a character hahahaha.

He's been officially confirmed, dude. He has a skin already for pre-order..

They were underdeveloped and poorly executed. But that sort of thing didn't START with MK4 by a long shot. The issue that most of the post trilogy characters really have to contend with is the sharp pivot in the storyline that began with MK9, along with the fact that we're now officially in an alternate reality rather than just a time-warped offshoot. (See Shawn Kittlesen's twitter for confirmation of that)

I still will hold onto the possibility that they're planning an Ultimate edition for MKX to be released next April (Boon hinted they're releasing a game next year in a tweet) which will add a lot of the old 3d era characters to an expanded story. Especially if the faction war is somehow going to be meaningful, and the end of the story for MKX is actually just the start of a bigger problem in the MKverse (which I feel like they are subtly hinting at in a lot of small ways that would take awhile to get into)

Oh.. well, I had not seen that info yet, and you ended your statement of that with a question mark like you were asking me. I thought you were suggesting that he might NOT be unofficially confirmed. I'm the dumb. :p

AND Shinnok is officially confirmd as well then, since he has one too. Ohhhkay. Sorry everybodies for being behind the times.

I remember when mk4 came out people mostly didn't know.

I said I was ok with Shinnok, not that I wanted him. Would not care if he wasn't even mentioned, let alone in. Just had a cool design and story.

Weird...

Since they had a truck driving around from city to city showcasing the game and had hundreds of people waiting in line to play.

Nah, my bad, man. I'm drunk, I didn't see I put a question mark, sorry.

Ya I agree, personally I think mk3 started to derail in mk3... the robots, kabal, sindel, Stryker... all blah and didn't feel Mk to me, but still was a good game.

Heh, funny because I never even heard about that until now. I did happen upon mk4 just after it came out in the arcade but there was rarely anyone playing unlike Mk1 - 3, at least near me (around Philly).

MK4's problem was the rapid death of arcades, really. (in most non-urban areas especially) If you didn't live in a large city you likely didn't even have an arcade left to visit, whereas MK1-3 were pretty much standard all across the country. The 3d era made running arcades really expensive, because of tech ramp-ups making older units unusable, specalized chipsets becoming standard, etc, etc, blah blah, borring, who cares, i'm old - deal with it.

Yeah, they actually did an arcade tour before MK 4 had come out to select cities, but there was a pretty huge following for it.

MK4's primary problem was it came out closer to the end of arcade hype and hegemony of that era, but I do distinctly remember it being popular at Tilts And Tumbles in my area when I was young. Every area is different I'm sure.

As for MK3, I dunno how that really qualifies as "not MK" when one of the central themes of Mortal Kombat is normal, mortal men and women defending their realm from strange outer world threats (Jax, Stryker, Sonya and what not all fit into that theme). Not to mention Mortal Kombat has always had military and/or high technology themes as themes (Sonya has been around since the beginning and Kano is the original Mortal Kombat cyborg who also was in MK1 thus making the introduction of the Cyber ninjas a natural evolution). Then you have Sindel, who is an undead banshee Queen and I'm not sure how that's not MK when it's got ninjas, hellspawns, monsters and sorcerers all over the place, seems to fit. Sheeva is a Shokan like Goro (also an OG character).

I mean, MK1, MK2, and MK3 all individually had their own unique, divergent feels, but they all mostly felt like an evolution over what had existed previously more so than anything. Not to mention, Midway/NRS have always tried to make each Mortal Kombat game distinct in its own way.

I want to see my main Liu Kang already damn it. We are already seeing DLC characters and story before his reveal which can only mean:

A. He is pivotal to the plot.
B. He is an unlockable character
C. All of the above and probably a boss.

I just hope they do my Shaolin brother right both story wise, and game play wise.

LIU!!! I NEED YOU!!!

Kabal sindel Cyrax sektor don't feel mk to you??
Ok then mate..
Not when they were introduced in mk3. in mk9 they did a good job and didn't feel out of place, but the robots especially felt gimmicky and out of place ("bleeding" oil?).

Very true, but at least the ones I went too were still fairly busy (a bit of a drop off but still busy), just seemed like almost no one was interested in Mk anymore. Philly is pretty large although I was more in the area just outside the city itself.

Yeah, they actually did an arcade tour before MK 4 had come out to select cities, but there was a pretty huge following for it.
Ah, select cities. Sorry, but I never saw the huge following for mk4. As someone else mentioned arcades in general started losing popularity around the time of mk4, I seriously doubt it was as big as previous mks.
