That's true, but Sindel's costume is just tweaked from MK9, while others are new but only inspired by previous designs.
Sindel is far from "iconic". Everybody misuses that word nowadays.

whats the difference between tweaked from MK9 and inspired from MK9 (or previous games)? it also could be an alt, "Kitana" is in an alt while fighting with her and she has another alt that looks alot like her MK9 design. im not trying to be difficult but her costume being similar is not really a reason when half the returning cast has similar costumes
ya I'm sure if you dig deep enough you'll find some Hsu Hao fans too. Majority of the posts I've seen talking about which 5 characters Boon meant say basically every other character in the trailer with almost none of them thinking Sindel is one of the 5.
The difference is one is inspired by a preceding design while using a new character model, and Sindel is still using her MK9 character model reskinned. But her costume isn't just similar, it's a copy of her MK9 default, tweaked from her base design. It's clear to me her MK9 attire was used directly as a base, and had stuff added to it to be slightly different. Strip away the few differences and it's her MK9 costume. Her character model is even identical. 'Dark Kitana,' while showing the same evil-looking aesthetic, is at least using her MKX in-game model, reskinned.

I'm not one for cynicism, but these are my honest thoughts on the matter. I just don't see the level of effort put into her as with Erron Black or Rain.
I don't know man, if you look at just her proportions, they're the same. Sure, she looks better, but I personally think it's her MK9 model, reskinned, and of course retextured for next-gen graphics.

Seriously though.....from an unbiased perspective, she's still pretty badass and just had strangers fuck her shit up (story wise). Also, in terms of variations AND story, she's still unbiasedly so much more interesting than a Hollywood star that knows how to use the gym for example and yet realistically would still would get his ass handed to him with a new hole by about 90% of the roster.
