Evo Rules Update - MKX and USF4 on PS4 (Arcade Stick Debacle)

I don't know, I don't see variations as a different character, but more so as different tools. Let's say you beat me with Inferno Scorpion against my Swarm Queen D'vorah and I decide to switch to Venomous to deal more damage up close. You shouldn't have the ability to switch to Ninjustu to get added range on your normals in order to keep me out.

But if I switch to Assassin Kitana, you should be able to make a variation switch to Ninjutsu so it wouldn't be a hard counter pick, but instead putting us on equal ground again.

That's just the way I see it.
I get what u are saying, but that is giving the winner an advantage which I think should not happen because the winner already has the advantage of being up a match and having a match to lose and change characters/ variations anyways of they lost. I think we would be killing too much time at the character select screen and it would be both players trying to counterpick. I say we do winner is locked at least for the first few events and see how it goes.

That's fair, but what if the winner has to pick their variation first, then the loser chooses character?

We can only wait and see how it pans out after release, but I strongly feel that my solution would let variations shine without turning the game into a counter pick fest.

Hopefully after TCW we'll have a better understanding of the systems in general and go from there.

I've ordered from them before. It is a canadian company. Used to order my PC parts from them.
From the looks of it, I don't like that DPad. I need to get one in my hands first.
Thanks for the link Jimmy.
Do you really have faith in a controller made by PDP? :DOGE

Let me know if you still want to try out the FC4

Winner has to choose variation (all be it hidden) before the loser picks character (Like SF ultra select).

This method actually prevents rampent counter-picking and adds to the mind games at the select screen.

It also makes MKX a 30 character game vs a 90 character game.

I dont know if I have faith in them, but im willing to try the controller.
Ill try the fc4 but if it is as fragile as you say it is, then I dont think ill get it.

I say everything stays locked up for the winner in my opinion. @TopTierHarley Yeah we will just have to see. Civil War should have MKX so we can see how it goes from there.

MK X is going to be better on pad , don't waste money on a stick for it.
IMO most games are better on pad, I feel like fight sticks are just needlessly expensive controllers that do nothing exceptional to warrant their price or popularity.

But again, this is IMO.

How can you say that? Preference is preference. Your preference is pad. Mine isn't.

Yes, in your opinion. You totally miss the point, but again, preference. :coffee:

I'm just waiting for all the japanese/all the other stick players to demand refunds for their EVO passes and cancel their flights.

I didn't miss the point, I understand that some people like obsolete tech that can cost over three times as much as the more up to date and smart options.

Depends heavily on the game. Stick and pad have different advantages and disadvantages overall. It's all up to preference. Truthfully, pad is not really that great for games like SFIV, where your character choices can be marred due to limitations a pad may bring in (Honda/Chun/Gen/Decapre players). Most other games, though, generally work well on both. SFIV is probably the main exception lol.

Not everyone started out playing fighting games on pad. Almost all arcade era players prefer stick, and even a lot of new school players learned fighting games on stick. I will agree, the price is kinda high for how restrictive the controller is in game selection.

I'm speaking from the point of view of most people. I'm pretty sure EX moves and blocking in general is uncomfortable with the button layout of a conventional stick.

I agree with you, that's why I said I think most games, but not all.

I think the only things some people(but not me) have a hard time with on pad that's easier on stick are backwards shoryuken motions.

In marvel the loser is allowed to change characters and their assists as well. That would not null variations, that would make sure we don't have a counterpick fest (but this would only apply to the characters with more than one good variation and I mean if y'all want counter pick galore then I can handle that :p)
That's marvel & assist changes a ton more than variations do. IN other games with variations it's only character lock for the winner, if the loser goes back to character select screen & changes character or variation the winner can switch.

As a non stick user this is some garbage, this really sucks for people that already regged for EVO for USFIV & people that were planning, EVO is already mad expensive this year *We're at Anime EXPO prices for gods sake* and this on top of that is possibly gonna break some peoples trips. I understand why it's been done but I still don't like it.

Evo Rules have just recently been updated across all games and it appears that MKX (as of right now) will be played on PS4.

Here is the link: http://evo.shoryuken.com/additional-rules/

Mortal Kombat X
  • Game version: PlayStation 4
  • Game Settings: Versus Mode, 2/3 Games, 99 Seconds
  • If the players do not agree on a stage within 15 seconds, the match will be random stage select.
For players that play on Arcade Stick, what are your plans? Will you be modding an existing stick to be able to play on PS4, or will you be shelling out another $150+ dollars for a new next-gen arcade stick?

This will honestly probably be a bigger problem in the USF4 scene as most competitive players seem to play on arcade stick.

My personal opinion, I would really appreciate it if developers incorporated PS3 arcade stick drivers into their games (created by Lab Zero the developers of Skull Girls).

I don't know if this will get any traction or not, but since MKX is still in development; Why not ask/try? You developers at NRS would look like geniuses and saints.
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet but we should lobby for random stages at all times. The past two NRS games have varied based on the stage, so I think we should make the stage pick completely random. We don't need to have people argue over the stage while we are trying to run a tournament.

This is a good point I don't think anyone thought of, we don't want a repeat of IGAUs first year with Metropilis Rooftop
