LOL at this thread and M2Dave. This man's ego is just tooo fragile right now. He needs the community to pat his back and agree with him on the fundamentals argument him and SonicFox had. He even ranks Sonic (winner of multiple games, even outside of NRS) 25-30 best in fundamentals?! Tooo priceless. I eat this stuff up.

On topic, DJT at Mk9 Evo 2 years ago vs Kabals was just absolutely amazing fundamentals.

My vote in order would be:
1. Chris G
2. DJT
3. CD Jr
4. Rico Suave
5. Theo
6. Sonic Fox
So "fundamentals" are the ability to jab someone and do 90% combos? The only thing that is "priceless" is your ignorance and Sonic Fox ass kissing.

In our set yesterday you tried to counter pick all of my characters with aquaman, sinestro, or Zod.
Im sensing hypocrisy
How was I counter-picking? Zod versus Sinestro is an even match. You lost twice and immediately switched characters after bragging about being a "Zod God". Your fundamentals are so mediocre that you do not know how get in with "one button", as you like to accuse Zod players.

No I said hey lets do Zod mirrors, not play MUS I don't know how to play. And that MU is said to be hard 5-5/ And I don't even main the character. And I am not accusing Zod players. Your trying to talk about fundamentals, yet you don't even know what they are lol

M2Dave, I don't doubt for a second that you THINK that you made this thread without any ego related reason, but that's the whole point. You're that kind of guy that does things subconsciously to make yourself feel better, because you can't be wrong, it goes against your whole personality.

And that's why I love you Dave. Because you're so basic.

On topic, Kazunoko in SF4 uses Yun. He plays at a faster pace than many other players because his character allows it. Just because his character is a bit more nutty doesn't mean that he doesn't have some of the best reactions, spacing, match up knowledge, and entries in the world.

Yep, that is exactly what I said.
My point is, is that you are saying he counter-picks so that the match up number is in his favour. Aren't match up numbers only ever relevant at the highest level? So if he is able to play these characters and match ups at the highest level, how is that not evidence of a high level of fundamentals? I'm not saying his are better that Theo's, but to not be included in the list and mentioned in the same name as character specialists is absurd.
Are you that hurt that he has placed in majors and won a major with characters worse than your main?
I agree with you here Dave, counter picking isn't a great display of fundamentals. BUT again, that's not too say that Forever King doesn't have great spacing, defense, match up knowledge, and reactions too.

tldr: even if you use a certain character (or multiple) it doesn't immediately mean you have bad or lacking fundamentals.

It's easy to keep up the appearance of having good fundamentals when playing brokenestro

Wow this is actually really tough, but one thing I know for sure is that that list is sorely lacking in potential candidates.

Question, though: what "counts" as fundamentals? Would a fundamentalist be the one to do well in early game, but possibly suffer towards the end of a game's life due to not knowing the details? Or are they the ones who stick with the game for the long haul and know everything there is to know?

For example, I think you could argue either way for @GGA 16 Bit. He usually struggles early the game's life while he's still figuring out the game, but then he sticks with it and ends up being very successful towards the end. Is grinding until you know the best answer for any situation in a game considered "fundamentals"? I'd say no. On the other hand, if fundamentals mean all-around good spacing, good reads, etc., then I'd say that 16Bit is close to the top because he really does have some of the best skills once he's fleshed out his character.

I like Tekken 8
Chris G, DJT(what he did at EVO did he consistently play like that?) and Dizzy's is really good. I haven't watched too many matches tho. It would be great if someone directed me to some games with high fundamental play.

The lift is strong in this one
1.Chris G

He tends to be a top player in every game, he doesn't use the cheapest characters, and he doesn't even really play NRS games. If there is any player who places top solely on fundamentals it is Chris G.
Morgan, Doom, Vergil
He invented the cheap team
