STRYKIE
Are ya' ready for MK11 kids?!
As of today (if my information is correct) it has been 2 years to the day that @Somberness was last active on the Test Your Might forums.
Those of you who joined the site in the Injustice era may not be aware of all the fuss behind my latest gimmick, but let me tell you who Somberness is:
The GOD of competitive Mortal Kombat as we know it today.
A consistent top 8 placer? No. But this beautiful specimen went out of his way to decipher the frame data for MK9 when NRS refused to disclose it for every character in the game, and did so by recording footage of every normal, every special, and even dash/walk speed properties in the game, going through the exhausting process of slowing down this stuff to 1 frame per second, and counting the duration of said properties 1 frame at a time accordingly. The project took him around 9 months to provide us with what he did and is actually much more in-depth than the frame data put forward in Injustice.
Without him, the competitive ethos on TYM would be nowhere near as strong as it is now, and dare I say it encouraged NRS to strengthen their ties with the competitive FGC too.
However, NRS still doesn't quite reach the benchmark that Somberness did. And we all would love to be blessed once again with his resources when something about the frame data inevitably goes wrong in MKX.
Will he ever come back? I don't know. I prayed it were not true that we would still be without his guidance in 2015, but I implore as many TYMers as possible to wear the "Mournful" variation banner for today only as a show of respect for a seemingly deceased legend in MK folklore.
I will bring forward one last attempt to summon our master to remedy us of the Sun God's shenanigans come April:
