I am scared that I like females (MKX)

I dunno what's wrong with ppl these days, is it that hard to believe that outside earthrealm female warriors dress less clothes? damn!

Right because with all of the bad ass male characters in the game, which aren't sexualized at all.... /QUOTE]

It depends on what you mean by sexualized. They aren't wearing speedos but both Jax and Liu Kang have very exaggerated body features and are both shirtless a majority of the time(JC too). I agree the female characters are more sexualized but lets not be totally biased here.

Either way what is the point of bringing up MK9 when we have already seen the female characters for MKX? D'vorah, Cassie, and Kitana are all fairly clothed and have realistic proportions, so what is the point in bringing up NRS past mistakes?

I mean, if you can show me a male character with half a sack hanging out, I'll agree with you.

But I wasn't really hammering on mk9. I absolutely loved mk9. My original post was just saying, "Hey the direction they are going with the females is cool."
I see your point and I agree.

Not at all, it's the reason it's passable. But we know the reason behind that on meta level and it's herd to ignore, and besides, we also know how "practical" those clothes and hairstyles would be in combat. They do know they are going to fight, to the death even, right?

We ofc won't insist on more realism here and abuse suspension of disbelief like always so that we can still have variety in aesthetics, it's just sometimes it's getting a bit ridiculous...

Besides, speaking of variety, we can now check out different styles of outfits associated with other realms, thus learning more about MK universe, in a sense. I, for one, always wanted to, but it's not very elaborated thus far...

I agree. To add to the above, at least kinda-futuristic member of Earthrealm military now looks like you would expect one to look.

Right because with all of the bad ass male characters in the game, which aren't sexualized at all.... and contain nothing but lethal and bad ass features, and literally every single female in the game looking like straight up strippers with basically only their genitalia and tiddies covered (except for maybe sindel), YOU think it's too big of a leap that they were designed by men for men? I've never once claimed that women can't still enjoy them.
Your original issue was that the design of the women in mk9 put women off of fighting games, so given that there are women that enjoy them doesn't wash with that. As far as "being designed for men by men," I don't know the makeup of the mk9 team, but id have to ask so what? Women don't seem to be interested in fighting games in general and there are plenty of fighters that don't sexualize the women so I don't think mk9 outfits are the reason.

women can still enjoy the mk9 designs. That's fine. But there's a good deal of women that are put off by the oversexualization. Either way, I don't think the mentality should be "women don't typically play fighting games so who cares?" I think the goal should be to include everyone.

There's the argument that MK already excludes a lot of people simply by its genre (FGs being FGs) and premise (bloody and gory 1 on 1 combat). Suggestion to broaden its TA by being more inclusive to some part of female audience only looks to me worthy of separate topic because there's a big fuss about gender issues in media these days, so it stands out.
On the other hand, pulling this off does not require to break anything about the game and, as I've said above, helps to show diversity of universe (one of the defining traits of MK IMO) and sits well with artstyle of particular instalment, so I don't see why not.

Part of my point is that there are fighters where the women aren't sexualized, and they still aren't played by women. Also, why should every game to try to appeal to everyone? That seems like it would be awfully bland and boring. I think its fine if some games want to appeal to everyone and some seek out niche audiences (or even large ones which don't necessarily include everyone).

I don't know what you're arguing for man. My point is that I think it would be awesome if more women played mortal kombat. I wouldn't say women are a niche audience considering they are like.. half of the world's population.

It would be, but it's hard to say if character designs have a lot to do with that.
Anecdotally... I know what, about 3 girls who kinda-sorta play MK and they play Sonya, Kitana, Mileena, and they like their characters. Those who don't play MK, that is because accordingly to them, video games is some stupid nerd shit. Well, you get the idea...
Well, I don't know, maybe it's a bigger deal for average female gamer somewhere else.

Speaking of females. I think we most (or even all, most likely all) of the females on the main roster:

Cassie
D'Vorah
Kitanna
Sonya
Mileena

Desperdicio

Tell me, do you bleed?
Sub-Zero wasn't top tier in MK 9 and I'm going to pick him up anyway. If when the game comes out everyone picks up one of five characters, this will be as fun as playing Pokémon with only the starters.

felt the need to resurrect this thread and reflect on how the girls the turned out:

Top 5~10:
- D'Vorah
- Sonya
- Cassie

High-Mid:
- Jacqui

Low-Mid:
- Mileena

Low~Bottom:
- Kitanna

I think that the female char mains couldnt be more happy with MKX, especially in a NRS game :)

and there is Tanya who is coming out as a DLC which is a very good sign to be a broke char xD

Yeah the ninja sisters are the only ones that kinda suck in this game, there's hope for Mileena tho it seems coz I keep seeing new tech for her almost every day now o_o;
