I have a feeling that the roster is going to be 24 characters at start + Goro as DLC. Hopefully I'm wrong though, just keeping my expectations low so I won't be disappointed.
Reminder: MK9 had 27 characters before DLC and IGAU had 24.

EDIT: I didn't count Kratos, so MK9 had 28 characters and you had to unlock 2 of them.

Why is everyone ignoring the fact that this is a new generation MKX ! you know we'll still see at least a cousin, niece, and nephew! people u need to give some slots cause it wont be just Cassie and Takeda ! remember that this is not MK9 with new skin

I would not be surprised if Boon throws an "oddball" at us and gives them a bad ass makeover.
(Meat, Tremor, Chameleon, Kameleon, etc.)

Here's 10 I'd like to see in MKX.

Baraka (We need that Tarkatan rep)

Reiko OR Havik (A lot of story/aesthetic potential here)

Shinnok (duh)

Noob (Mk9 raised his Badess-ery levels too high to not have him return)

Cyrax (We need a robot. Put the most popular one in and make him F- tier)

Frost OR Smoke (Lin Kuei needs more support)

Ashrah (Demon hunter angel woman with a shady past who looks classy. Sure, I'm listening. Put her in)

Hotaru (Probably the most interesting "Deception" character for me. Give him that orderrealm armor/mindset and bring him back!)

Jade (Staff animations are just too swaggy to omit)

Jax (MK9 made me really apreciate how hype Jax is)

I'd say only 12 left. The open slot in bottom right will likely be left for dlc. I wish NRS could put together a better looking roster layout though for when dlc is added. MK9 dlc screen was just odd.

Doubt Jade or Noob make it back. Could certainly do without Shang, Mileena, Nightwolf, Sindel, Rain, and Kang (unless zombee Kang is back).

Hoping for

1) Cyrax/Sektor/Smoke variation cyborg - Make it happen nrs
2) Tremor - Waiting forever on this
3) Hotaru - Unique
4) Havok - Just so b.a.
5) Moloch - Need another big
6) Tanya - This is almost guaranteed
7) Reiko - Also b.a.
8) Fujin - Can do some cool wind stuff
9) Kenshi - Need anti zoner

Next two are pretty much given
10) Shinnok - Duh
11) Goro - In already

Leaving last slot for someone new or guest slot :(

Technically, it says pre-order to fight as Goro. I bet he is in the base game and you would have to do something like challenge tower or story to unlock him, but pre-ordering will unlock him out of the gate.

Also for the cyborgs, one is more than enough and it should very much be Sektor.

Sektor is by far the most important of the 3 to the storyline. He is the leader of the Tekunin. He's evil, meaning he always has motives to push the storyline forward. And he's not a little bitch like Cyrax (sorry Cyrax fans).

Variation 1: Old Sektor moves with some enhancements like guided missiles.
Variation 2: Old Sektor moves with Cyrax's bombs and net.
Variation 3: Old Sektor moves with Cyber Sub-Zero's divekick and freezing missiles.

Was I the only one who came to the conclusion that the new character slot in the select screen was Goro, since they talked about showing him off soon + dlc usually breaking the symmetry of character selects when they're about to be available/are available?

Also, everyone making lists with 11 returning characters seems to forget we're supposed to get "more returning characters than previous mk games have had". We got 4 new since E3, we should be getting 10-11 total. That means 4-5 returning >_>

As for who I want/expect for the returning side:

Sektor
Shang Tsung
Reiko OR Havik
Shinnok
another Female Ninja or Sareena

.....and playable kintaro because fuck you hes way awesomer than goro

Is the main roster size officially or semi-officially locked at 24?

I think Takeda is a given. Probably Reiko and Shinnok too. The rest is really up in the air.
