How will you choose your main?

Depends. If Rain's in it, it's character loyalty. If he's not, I go for the coolest character. Which so far is Kung Lao

None of the poll options fit me lol. I play whoever is the most fun for me to play as. In MK it was Baraka(a semi-rushdown character) and in Injustice its Raven(a zoner).

If Baraka somehow makes it in the game, then I would play him. But I doubt that's going to happen so I'll probably try everyone until I find someone that sticks.

I love how out of all the votes in the poll as of now only 2 votes, only 2 votes, are for "tier whore". I never knew Kabal, Kenshi, and Aquaman had so many character loyalist. Hell pre-patch Superman, pre-patch Kano, and pre-patch Black Adam must have been awesome until the patch ruined their, "character visuals" which made over half their players drop them??

one of the reasons they made variations is to make you play with your fav character almost against anyone, which will make you loyal to your character

I consider these things, not in specific order:

1. Coolness. Do I like how the characters looks, how his moves look or his personality. I could never main a female character, they just aren't cool for me.
2. Execution requirements. Do I have the hands to play the character I like efficiently. My execution is pretty average so I stay away from really execution heavy characters.
3. Popularity. Is the character I like really popular in tournaments and online, or an underrepresented one with potential. I usually go for characters who aren't that popular.
4. Tier placement. Is the character top, mid or low tier. I don't mind playing a high tier character, but I will never again main a bottom 5 character. Ever.
5. Playstyle. What is the characters gameplan, rushdown, zoner, grappler, setups ect. I can pretty much adapt to play any style but I always gravitate towards grapplers.

For reference I main Lobo in Injustice, Adon in SF4 and probably going to main Kano in MKX.

It's a combination of everything.


I like zoning over rushdown, but I don't mind playing either. If there's a character who can zone AND get in/play footsies (Like Lantern, Supes) I usually gravitate to those types of characters. I also never stick with bad characters. It's just poor decision making if you're playing a game competitively to inherently hurt yourself because you like that character.

I will play my favorites at first, if I click with them and feel I'm doing genuinely good with them, I will stick with them. However, I did that in injustice and kept getting counterpicked by Sinestro, so I had to have a pocket character. I also love high damage characters... It's gonna take me a minute to pick a main in MKX, unless Reptile, Rain, or Fujin are in.

Raiden because... SWAG combos, fast-paced gameplay, cool looking design. HIS Displacer tele-combos, when he beats the shit of you while you are in the air and you just can't contain him in one place, looks very badass. I can't wait to connect those combos into x-rays xD

My second picks so far would be Subz and Dvorah.

Since Skarlet is most likely not gonna make it, I will have to find someone who will suit my rushdown, 50/50 playstyle, and I really don't wanna MAIN a character that people became famous for in MK9 like PL wit Lao, so most likely I will be looking to main a MK4 character, or if I did pick an old character it would be Scorpion, or Jax, but in all honesty I don't wanna call who I would main just yet, rather wait for the game to release and the entire roster be up for grabs....only then will I know who I will main...

I've mained so far: Mileena, Skarlet, Juri, Harley Quinn and Sadira. But Also Rain and Lili in SFxT, so it's not set in stone. However when choosing my first mains, I go for the badgirls.

Some mixture of archetype+character loyalist with some visual design thrown in. You have to look cool, and you have to be fun to play(i love unique bullshit like traps/block strings/stupid zoning/whatever), and then I don't care what tier you are.

Kung Lao FTW

I'm a character loyalist for the most part, and that's why I played who I did in MK9.

Sektor - Been one of my favorites since MK3. Badass red robot ninja.

Kung Lao - When my brother and I played through Shaolin Monks, I was KL and he was Liu. The fact that he was godlike in MK9 was just icing on the cake.

Mileena - Creepy, evil, deadly, sexy. She's the only female fighting game character I've ever really liked (Cassie might be a challenge for that position, however). Really hoping she's in MKX.

Johnny Cage - He's the only guy I liked to play as in MK1. His personality is so over the top and cocky, I can't help but love it. Just like Kung Lao, it was an added bonus that he was such a good character. Mortal Kombat Legacy also made me like him a lot since it portrayed in a more believable, sympathetic way.

I prefer characters whose name start with Q

if Shinnok is in i will definitely be a character loyalist unless he is 2-8 against everyone, because i want to invest my time in someone who has a chance of winning. if not, i will pick a cool looking top tier character, why not

Goro is my favourite MK character so I'll TRY to main him from beginning to end, the problem is, in MK9 and Injustice I always had somewhat of a character crisis, I ended up playing most of the cast, close to every character. But this time I want to devote myself to just two, at MOST three, characters. My secondaries might change during the game's life, but Goro will always be my main. At least that's the plan, lol.

I am going to random select my main this time and blame fate when it goes all wrong.
