I voted scorpion. Let's face it, he is only still in the game because he is sold as being badass. His story arc finished literally 20 years ago and there is no reason for him to still be in the game. He's a one note character.

Actually here's what happens...
1992 MK1- Scorp kills Bi Han
1993 MK2- Scorp enters 2nd tournament because he hears Sub is in it... Scorp beats up Sub (Kuai Liang) and just before finishing him off, realises he's not Bi Han. Kuai Liang gets a scar on his face after Scorp's last encounter.
1994 MK3- Scorp does not participate and acts as Kuai Liang's protector
1997 MK4- SUDDENLY, Scorp and Sub are at it again even though they made up 3-4yrs ago. BUT, both Sub's and Scorp's ending lead to Quan Chi getting killed by Scorpion and -once again- their feud comes to an end.
2002 D.A. Same...
Deception same...
Armageddon - who cares?
DC ...same...
MK9 (Reboot) same...
(EDITED) MKX so far it looks the same... (Can't wait to see what the story mode leads us to)

Protagonists are meant to be "bland" and not cool because they're not evil.
Killing of protagonists is indeed a nice idea but you and I both know NRS will bring them back (Lao/Kit) with a most likely childish explanation.
PS: a great deal of mk1 roster is tributes to actors/film characters... John Tobias gave them a backstory and they are what they are today, after 23 years. It's only natural having such a long roster for characters to draw attention/steal the thunder of other classic characters...
For god's sake , I mean even Sheeva, Jade, Rain, Ermac, Frost, Stryker and Kabal have devoted fans now!! It's only natural the "mk champion" to have as well. No ?

BULL. SHIT. There is no rule in storytelling which says that your central protagonist has to be or even should be a boring flawless moral paragon of bland virtue, and I would argue its out of place in a world where the central focus is a martial arts freakshow. Just do a search for "greatest antiheroes" or something on google and I guarantee you that you'll find a huge amount of main characters who aren't goodie goodies.

I agree with that, but I my guess being you've watched a fair amount of martial arts movies you'll kind of get what I mean...

Br. Lee, J.Chan, Jet Li, Donnie Yen, J.C.Van Damme, Sho Kosugi and so on...
The anti hero thing looks like sth that evolved as an after 00's trend that needed to appear in movies/games because the Bruce Lee/St. Seagal/etc is a formula of utter satiety these days.
The Earthrealm good guys, ALL OF THEM, are in that old school category... Jax, Kang, Sonya are the top non-liked characters and I'd like to believe they were voted for more than just a b312, an armored elbow or d4-mlitary stance reasons...
If Cage, Lao and others were in, they would get people's votes for the same reason.

I fucking hate scorpion. Dude is a try hard that is just a wet dream of what a 14 year old would think is cool. Oh yeah, fire and spikes and ninja and a skeleton too! So grimdark and edgy and cool! It really feels like he is over compensating for something. It reminds me of horrible rob liefield designs from shitty 90's image comics.

I voted for Liu Kang as I've never been big on the character, and his voice used to be amusing but now it just annoys me.

I expect him to be in Mortal Kombat X though, and as a bad guy; perhaps one of the main antagonists. We don't know for sure if Raiden killed him, and "bad" Liu Kang was interesting and I believe well received in Mortal Kombat Legacy Season 2, so I suspect that twist will be coming into the game.

Scorpion _was_ created in the 90's though, the early 90's, and his skull, fire, and spear were amazing then.

Even if it was amazing then- which I don't agree with- it doesn't mean it's amazing now. Some things just don't hold up over time. Less is more most of the time. I have the same issues with ghost rider.

Kung Lao isn't on the list so didn't vote lol.

But as far as that poll, I agree with Spinky guy. I was never a fan of Jax...seems like a dull character. P.S. not "racist" I just feel he serves no purpose lol.

Liu Kang is the Embodiment of Old School martial Arts masters. I grew up on watching bruce lee movies, jackie chan etc Yes there is something Boring about being a Shaolin Monk, he's a prototypical Kung Fu master from the older generation and hasn't had the reboot to his character design that he probably needs. Yet there is no denying when this Dude Comes back in MKX probably as Evil Liu Kang he will be Cool as the other side of the pillow. I personally find His character great and not boring because i know where his influence comes from. there is something cool about the Calm Cool Collected Shaolin Monk that Just beats everyone's ass In tournament. Have you guys Seen enter the Dragon? thats Basically Liu Kang LBSH.
