Really likes to throw things at you.
So after reading the "Have you already picked your main" thread and after seeing people's reactions and "INSTANT MAIN!" posts in character reviel threads, I am curious as to how everyone is going to pick their INITAL character and then subsequent characters.

Personally I have found myself to be an archetype loyalist mixed with a tier whore/counter-picker.

My inital pick will be who I feel is the best zoner and then my secondary characters will be based around covering my main's bad MUs. However after a decent understanding of the game is developed and it turns out my inital pick was wrong I will drop that bitch instantly and pick up the highest tier zoner.

Then waaaay down the list, after I have ground out all my MUs with my main, I will start learning characters I like or that I can swag out with.

Thoughts?

I have to find someone who fits my playstyle. I feel like the way someone plays and which character they pick speaks volumes about their personality.
But I do believe I'll be loyal to just one character in MKX because the different playstyles for each character.

If Jade and/or Baraka makes it I'll try my best make one of them work for me, but at the end of the day I usually go with a good rushdown character.

I just hope I don't get too caught up in using specific variations.

  1. Must be a newcomer.
  2. Mustn't be the main protagonist.
  3. Fuck playstyles.
  4. Probably should look cool as shit too.
  5. And if I'm just picking up a game that a pretty established tier-list, no top 5.
That's it.
I'm thinking Ferra/Torr for now, however due to lack of new character reveals, I think I'm just gunna wait and see, because IMO everyone revealed so far (veterans included) is lame as shit. :D

.... they mostly come at night. Mostly.
it's all about the kind of gameplay that fits better your play style type preference ..... :D

sort of : strategic zoner, aggressive rushdown, or safer keepaway/defensive

I generally pick a main based on how much damage they do. Ermac and Ares were my go to guys in their respective games, so yeah. Kotal Kahn is looking like he hits like a truck and appeals to me a lot visually, hence I'm sticking to him when the game comes out and try having a basic knowledge of every other character like I did with MK 9.

My plan is to literally go into the lab with every character. I'll tests their dashes, move speed, jumps, and general footsie potential. After ranking everyone based on mobility I will do the same thing with normals and specials. This knowledge will help me narrow it down to a small handful of characters. Then I'll just play with these few until I find which one feels most "instinctual." That will be my main. Oh...and Ermac...because...Ermac!. lol

Must be evil/villain
I prefer extremely good anti airs.
I like to play one rushdown character and one zoning character
Must look good of course

So Kano is actually pretty high on my list right now. He's got a zoning variation and a grappling variation, so he fills both my rushdown and my zoning needs.
Though with still half the cast to be revealed, this has a high chance of changing.

The one that makes me thick trough playstyle, yet i think i know exactly what NRS is doing this time.

They are empowering archtypes into 3 different areas, look at Sub-Zero for example.

Ever since MKDA he has been portrayed as a bulk slow and defensive character, in MKX his defense archtype can weight to offense with cryomancer, defense with unbreakable or turtle with grandmaster, while Scorpion who has been portrayed more as an offense character, get to go all out with ninjustus, heavy mixups on hellfire, and footsies in the inferno.

But time will tell, i'm pretty sure the character i pick will have 3 different playstyles i will enjoy, because that is what variations are for after all, it lets your character be a little more, rather than be the "this is what you get" type.
