Exclusive: First Hands-on Look at PDP's Xbox Controller for Mortal Kombat X

Months back we got our first glimpse of the Performance Designed Products' (PDP) Mortal Kombat X controller and now we get our first hands-on look at it. Thanks to YouTube user, BrianTong we get our all-around look and the first thing you may notice is that there are no analogs on this Xbox controller. In addition to this, the D-Pad side of the controller is also longer, allowing you to hit your buttons with your thumb or as if you were playing on an arcade stick.

Check out the video!

With it being 360 and one compatible, shouldn't that mean it should be easy to get 360 sticks to work on the one? I wasn't aware this was possible yet. If anyone could shed light on that for me I'd be very grateful.

Are ya' ready for MK11 kids?!
Cross-gen compatibility is a nice touch, but there's a lot of gray areas about the general build quality yet, hopefully someone gets hold of a few weeks before MKX's release and sees how well it fares for other fighters.

(Inb4 Paulo comes in here with some whack damage control comment, I lose my shit and throw out a monologue about NRS's history of shady programming/business practices. :p)

Xbone and 360 compatitable pad? That sounds like a useful PCB. Seeing as how PS4 pads are PS3 compatible as well we could see some quad mods in the near future.

Also, for pad players the dpad in this looks MUCH better than the prototype version. This could be a good option for playing on all 4 systems for pad players. (Assuming the ps4 version is ps4/ps3 compatible version)

Microswitch buttons are a bad idea imo, and will wear out quickly(unless we're talking mouse click style). The dpad looks ok, but it doesn't look like it has very good circular motion which isn't really a bad thing for MK games, but which is terrible for others. Everything else looks good. Clicky face buttons are also a negative for pad tournament players since people can hear you pressing buttons now. The microswitch stuff is one of the reasons I passed on those neo pad 3 pads a few years back.

The innovation in pads is disappointing, but I've been using a $20 Hori gem pad, and it has lasted longer than any new pad I've ever had. Madcatz sfxt pad died. Sega Saturn HK knockoff died. Retro knockoff Saturn pad died. Hori Fight Commander 3 died. And I've read that the old microswitch pdp pads have died for many people. Gem pad is the only one that has not gone to shit yet, but it is also not 6 buttons. I refuse to buy anymore of these new pads, but maybe this pdp pad will last.

Here is the pad I designed for an old thread, based on the hori fc3, saturn, and mcz pad. This pdp pad looks pretty close, and even has their advantage of start select placement; but mine still puts all the shoulder buttons on right side, and makes them very flush like the Sega Mode button, which is better imo.
What are you waiting for? Let's kickstart this baby!

I don't understand why dpads aren't being made like playstation's. I need independent directional buttons please. These combined directional pads are trash, and always will be.
It looks like the XB1 dpad, which is really good.

Cross gen compatible and dpad instead of stick is a good choice. I will wait and see how long it last once it comes out.

Independent buttons for d-pad is good for MK, pretty blah for everything else.

They need to just take a page from Logitech and use the floating d-pad they use. Mad Catz had a d-pad module for their pro pad that was like this. It wasn't as good as Logitech's, but still. The floaty d-pad is the way for fighting games and everything else, honestly.

Get your guns on. Sheriff is back.
If it even has a Dpad isn't it moddable now that the casing is setup to take those parts?

Yeah I understand for other games for sure. But the MK logo is literally on the controller so...
