Appreciate it, and that's kind of what I figured. I'm assuming the gap between Hakan and Hawk is smaller than the gaps between Gief and them/Hugo and them, right? Such a damn shame Hugo is ass tier. :(
Yeah sadly. Hakan could be better than Gief & I think he is personally, especially after this next patch

I checked in training mode and saw that both have pretty horrible range. What makes one better than the other?
Hurt box & recovery I believe

USF4 - Had an extended Hitbox, he could land cr.MK~Hadokens from a bit far and still becoming a true blockstring, though max ranged it was like Ryu's on AE2012

Now they're taking away that range which will revert it, now ken will have to get a bit closer to land a cr.MK on a pseudo range where is no longer a blockstring (I think), this will also put him on range against other characters attacks like Ibuki's overhead.

Gesture Required Ahead

Get on that hook

Xbox usually updates around 5-6am EST. So check then on Xbox.

PS3, from what I understand, is way more sporadic. And PC, I don't even fucking know.

Decapre changed gave her new links, new punishes, new mixes, i think She will come up on the tier list.

Specially now that She has a Legit combo into red focus.

Hugo is WAY better than T. Hawk, probably about even with Hakan (if you contrast the shittiness of no-oil Hakan with the awesomeness of oiled Hakan)
I really doubt Hugo is better than T. Hawk pre & post patch. I could see it but I would need some hard evidence on that.

T. Hawk has a command grab, a bad anti-air, bad buttons, and a hilariously unsafe and predictable "way in". Hugo has all this and also armor, an overhead game, meat squasher, HUGE damage of counter hits and confirms by way of clap, and a better way to deal with fireballs. His limbs, anti-air, focus, corner escape, and ultras are all better. Unquestionably. Every matchup thats bad for Hugo is worse for T. Hawk, save Chun Li, Dhalsim, and maybe Dudley. Characters like Rolento and Vega can kite T. Hawk all match long and there's nothing he can do about it. Hugo can land a single ex shootdown and regain control of the match. Hawk got nothing in 1.04 to bridge the gap as Hugo already has red focus options (not that he needs them) and his approach is way easier moreso now that Spire got nerfed. Meanwhile Hugo got more damage, and more hitbox fixes.

What T. Hawk has (over all the grapplers) is probably the best splash / cross up / tick grab "vortex", but it requires him to get in which he still can't do easily. Admittedly, if T. Hawk gets in you're probably already dead but anyone who knows the T. Hawk match will run the second he gets close and then he has to start all over again. All the others can get back in off any read, even Hakan, even without oil, even from across the screen.

Yo. As a grappler fan who kinda sorta wants to get back into SF but has been hesitant because of how garbage I've heard Hugo is, I appreciate the hell out of this write-up. You might have to be my sensei if I pick this game back up lol.

Hugo isn't garbage, really. He has a couple really hard matchups, but this character is scary once he touches you lol. And meat squasher is one of the most ridiculous RBG-type throws I have ever seen. Automatically corners you, and on some characters lets you st.MP them.

Like @THTB said, Hugo isn't actually bad. Anyone who says that has a character who's super good against grapplers or spends too much time on EH. He's nowhere near as good as he was in SFxT (I think he eventually got nerfed there anyway) and because SF4 was not built with him in mind he has some "unique" problems but really everything he suffers from is the same as every grappler has suffered from since the dawn of time. I just think for some reason people were expecting a lot more out of him. Everybody saw Combofiend showing off those 40-50% damage clap combos prerelease and said omg its sfxt all over again, but it just isn't.

I don't think I even have SF4 installed anymore and I'm rusty as hell, but if you wanna play I'm on steam and xbox (gt: trufenix).

Evil Ryu
  • Vitality reduced from 950 to 900.
But.....why?
Because there was no need for him to actually have his health raised lol. He already had some really good changes going into Ultra on top of people realizing he was much better than credited, but that one buff was unnecessary. Now you had a character who, with 900 health, was already top tier, having more health and being harder to kill.

You made a good point, I didn't think about it at the moment. It had just seem weird at the time for me.

I can officially say Evil Ryu is a complete character but not top tier though.

Hugo has all these problems except fucking worse. Worse normals, worse movement, worse reversals, worse everything. Also note T. Hawk can combo into Red Focus easily now with M. DP change, which having a DP alone is something Hugo would kill for, EX Shootdown is nice but it doesn't do anything for people properly meatying him or pressuring him. He's also blatantly worse at getting in even on reads than T. Hawk, whats he gonna do? EX Clothesline in which is one of the worse options in comparison to other grappler tools? Yeah Hugo has huge damage but who cares if he's never getting that chance to land a hit most of the time.

He's not exactly garbage bu he is definitey bottom 5 & more than any other Grappler in the game he needs a sub to be playable in tournament & even then it's a hard question of why the hell would you wanna play him in tournament. You're better off playing Gief, Hakan, or T. Hawk.

He was & is still clearly top tier.

I don't know man I see upper mid tier, maybe you can explain to me why you think he's top tier?
Shoto normals with a 2n1 Cr. MK to Hadouken that's a full blockstring, some of the best damage to meter usage conversion in the game, a really good frametrap/throw game, easily comboable ultras. He pretty much had everything & was a extremely consistent character, he still is but he takes just a bit more damage now. Like who was better than him before the nerfs & who's better than him now especially for tournament play?

Well before everyone was on the evil ryu train, Sako was really the only one that was showing the true potential of evil ryu and after his buff Daigo start showing what evil ryu really was all about.

XsK samurai gets a special mention for his Ultra Evil Ryu even though his mostly known for Marvel

Before Sako started really showing Evil Ryu's potential, everyone commented on the fact that he was a shoto who could confirm into 40% from cr.MK, as well as the fact that he had a divekick. People were commenting about him being better than everyone thought. Just no one knew if this was actually the case.
