Bad match up for the Ryu's & no really stellar Sim's in Japan
YHCmochi + Torimesingo

Didn't watch this and probably won't unless I'm bored or it pops up on my recommended vids, this game's players have become really hard to root for with these random as fuck results.

Isn't unpredictable results a good thing? Isn't it more boring when the exact same people win all the time? Isn't it more hype if "upsets" (not really upsets) are more likely due to the level of playing field? Everyone's predictions were wrong for every bracket, that is awesome. Not one person expected Snake Eyez to go 0-2, but low and behold, he did.

I'm just saying, it's awesome that a game that has been out for 6+ years still can have unexpected turnouts and the level of play is always improving.

Upsets are exactly that, a rare and unexpected occurance, not something that happens 10 times in 1 tournament.

Unpredictable results are not always good for a game, they kill player favoritism. Say you root for player x, he's "dominant", he's trash, then "dominant" again, then "trash" again, confusion at it's finest. There needs to be an order when it comes to predictable results up to a point e.g this player makes top 8 or this player has a good chance of winning. Very large difference thn guaranteed win or completely unpredictable shit. Half the top 8 was players who you know are worse than some players who got top 16.

I think nerves severely affected every competitor at Capcom Cup, you could visually see it. Even tournament veterans can get nervous under the big lights and huge audience with a SECOND story! I think even PR Balrog mentioned he got nervous after seeing the crowd, it's something you simply cannot prepare for.

EVO.

There's also a difference between the US, Japan and Europe. US players get noticeably more nervous

Tourney nerves weren't responsible for the whole tournament to have seemingly random results, these players are veterans and some of them have been playing since the beginning of fighting games.

not too sure what defines results as "random" because all 16 of the players in the Capcom cup were capable of taking first place if things went their way. When watching events like these where some of the best players are showcased and have to play vs one another, I don't think something like "this guy will probably win and this guy will probably go 0 2". Too many variables come into play for tournaments, don't know what to expect most of the time. I will say it is not hard picking who will win a tournament if their is a player who is on a hot streak (for the most part imo).

What I mean by random is players who you know are weaker than others, no matter how strong compared to the public, making constant upsets e.g you know nuckledu is weaker than daigo, even if hes a great player and earned his way into capcom cup.

maybe so, but I think these upsets happen more frequently because of the quick 2/3 sets. They force you to adapt quickly and to always be on ur game, otherwise u could easily lose 2 0 to someone and be toast. Now in longer set events (like the Topanga league) Daigo won in dominant fashion because every set was a lot longer and those sets will give an advantage to the better player typically (though matchups and what not have to be taken into account as well).

I think you are seriously underestimating the "weaker" players in this tournament. Everyone was capable of taking it, honestly, no matter how slim the chance. In all honesty, it could have gone many different ways.

Am I reading that right?

Winner got half a million?

And what was SFV like?
Mr. Ono announced that at the next Capcom Cup there will be a $500,000 prize pot, mainly due to their partnership with Sony. As for SFV it looked good to me, although I wish it was a bit faster. I'm pretty sure the game will be a lot more polished later on. They also teased Charlie at the end of their trailer.

I'm pretty sure there's footage of it youtube, Mike Ross and Combofiend played an exhibition with Ryu and Chun li after Grand Finals.

Street fighter 5 looked a little boring honestly but it's so early in development that things are prone to change. What I did like about it was the animation of the strikes and the block/hit stun animations, they look very forceful and weighty. Apparently there's this new instinct-like mechanic that buffs your specials and there's also parrying, guard break, and launchers. I hope it turns out great but I'm still more hype for mkx

MKX for the win #YEEAAAPP but it is too early to judge on SF5. No doubt it is going to have like 2.5k entrants at its first evo haha but what I am really hoping for is that MKX can get at least 750 for its evo.
