Street Fighter V teaser

Johnny Based Cage

The Shangest of Tsungs
This really is Mortal Kombat's chance to take over and reign as king of the FGC. There's a huge gap between SF and MK to overcome still but the hype's been real since its reveal and the console exclusivity factor is huge. If NRS can balance it and support it properly, and it doesn't bomb on the big stage like Injustice did, I can see a significant shift in numbers looming on the fgc horizon.

Lets not delude ourselves into thinking that exclusivity will hurt the game competitively. It's still gonna be the big dawg at EVO and most likely other majors since PS4 is looking more and more like the system of choice for tournaments.

Besides, games have been exclusive before and that hasn't hurt them (e.g. MvC2 being exclusive to DreamCast for years, before the PS2 and XBox versions came... and competitively, those other 2 didn't matter anyway since they were shit ports).
Of course SFV will still have a healthy competitive scene. But it's now forseeable MK could become bigger. SFV got the big scene it has now because it had more players at one point who were casual. All competitive scenes once came from proportional casual scenes- simply because more people bought the game.

Now, Mortal Kombat has the seeds of a competitive scene that in the future could be larger than Street Fighter's scene because of its exclusivity.

What you fail to realize is that the FGC doesn't pick its games like most AAA game communities. Traditionally, we've followed games to whatever console had them.

Also, lets not forget that the PS4 is leading the XB1 in most markets right now, even the US. Combine that with the fact that Sony has laid out a clear upgrade path for the FGC, most people with an interested in fighting games will now likely upgrade to PS4 for the same reasons TOs will be doing so - 1) stick compatibility, 2) existing games like Xrd and Ultra having PS4 ports, and 3) SFV.

Then, there's also the PC version and the fact that it's cross-compatible with the PS4 version. This means that even those without a PS4 can still get to play SFV, and not only that, play online within the same online community.

And Mortal Kombat X will be on all consoles, so none of this applies to it at all. It will just be the highest selling FG because of its availability, and this will eventually factor into it having the largest competitive scene.

Still training...
Wait, so this was confirmed to happen? I mean, will i be able to use my PS3 stick on PS4? because i haven't seen anything related to that so far, do you have a link to ease my soul?
It has to be put into the game. Skullgirls did it; haven't heard of anything else so far. Unless Capcom explitly says they're going to support it assume your old stick won't work--unless you're playing on PC [master race].

EndofGameBoss

That's about right.
KI's breakers are way different from MK's. MK's are guaranteed, no guessing, but on the flip side they are governed by meter that's used for other things. KI's breakers work on proper guessing for the breaks, and baiting opponents into obvious breaks. There aren't many unbreakable combos in KI, so you're oftentimes at the mercy of your opponent's guessing. There's methods to skew the guessing game more in your favor in KI, but the fact still remains that damage in KI is way more often than not a guess away from being taken away.

It still happens. 1999 or not. If you don't think it does, then why are there still driver-related issues being brought up on support boards and whatnot, despite people having respectable specs for their PCs?

PC still has an issue of fragmentation...not everyone buys the same parts for their PCs. Problems do occur that's related to what they're using. Even in higher-end PCs. Games are not developed on the same hardware you may use. It's still a drawback to the platform and you'd have to be pretty ignorant of it to think otherwise.
It sounded like some were complaining about updating their drivers. You can set panels(depending on which GPU brand you have) to automatically install new drivers. Some games are just flat out bad at release. Look at Unity. Nothing much to do with drivers as much as just being horrible.

On topic; I'm excited to play a "new SF." We all know a lot of it is going to be rehashed, but that's the way most like it. You bring in something new and it gets crucified. Look at SFxT. It will be nice to play a heavily footsie oriented game again.

A driver for PS3 sticks already exists. It's up to the devs to implement.

Secondly, all new PS4 sticks will be PS3 compatible. So people buying sticks from now on for PS3 for Ultra SFIV, Persona 4 Ultimax and Guilty Gear Xrd can move on to PS4 easily.

This part is seriously a huge gamechanger. The entire reason I'm on the fence about a new console purchase is because I want to make sure that I get to play with the largest/best pool of players available and this has made it a complete nonissue.

MK9 sold about 3x more copies than SFIV without any upgrades.

@Tony at Home I see your logic but let us take this a step by step. First lets look at the most recent entries MK9 and SF4, now both were multiplatform games, they sold very competitively and while i am not sure who sold more, I remember both being around the 3.5 Million to 4 Million mark. Let us say that MK9 sold more. Could you explain to me why SF4 had a 2000+ entry at EVO while MK9 wasn't an official game. Can you explain why SF4 almost alway double the MK9 or Injustice if not triple the turnout to all tournaments.

I will tell you, The reason is that the SF community lineage is 20+ years old, years and years and years of tournaments. The thousands and thousands around the world that has been playing SF even before there was a Playstation or Xbox. Do you really think that this community won't support SF5 because it is PS4 console exclusive ? You can get it on PC as well.

The cross-play will mean THE Largest online community for a fighting game of all time.

MKX will be on 5 different platforms. There is no doubt it will sell more, absolutely. The question is what does that benefit me as a player ? 5 different platforms means small and niche online communities like Injustice EU PS3 is at the moment. It is best for business but I doubt it is best for the serious player.

I am sorry but if SF V was on the original wii only title, it would have still been the number 1 game in the FGC. That is just how it is.

Yes I am a SF fan and Yes I am a MK fan and I am getting both but to say that MK will be the FGC number 1 game over SF isn't happening any time soon and THAT is what i care about honestly. Not how much Capcom or WB makes

This. A 6 year old game still manages to get double the entrants of any other game.
